Insejn
Aphid Moon - High Diver Artist: Aphid Moon Title: High Diver Label: Dragonfly Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. A Lot Of Radio 02. Disco Biscuit 03. Boo 04. Spectra 05. Reactor 06. Dunno 07. High Diver 08. Zak Stardust Review: Nice to have this release in this modern time. The old sounds makes appearance in this CD. I gets me to think about Chi-AD. I like the way the combine strong bass with old sounds. You know what I mean with old sounds. But all tracks don't have that sound. Some more old than others. The weird thing is that there isn't much melodies, if that is weird. Hard to describe but it's more like a pattern. But this CD is nice if you're sick of TIP, 3D Vision stuff, like me. Final Verdict: 7/
PKS
Jules Hamer is finally out with his debut album. He has already released a few tracks on compilations on Dragonfly Records.First out is a monotonous track which is somewhere between house and trance. The kind of music Dragonfly has released a lot the last couple of years. Pretty boring if you ask me. Dragonfly has really moved far away from the great quality trance they used to release. Track 2 is harder techno influenced trance. Still very monotonous and in my ears just boring. Why not do something more out of it? This is boring listening to and dancing to! Track 3 is a bit more psychedelic, but still, it sounds pretty simple. This is not psytrance, but bad hard house. Track 4 is more stumpy. Still monotonous and not very original, but better than the first three tracks. This one builds up a little and becomes a bit more melodic. Track 5 sounds like a mix between hard house and trance. Noisy sounds all the way, and rolling restless rhythms pushing all the way through. Track 6 sounds a little better, but still you get this awful hard house feeling. Track 7 is very techno influenced again. You get some guitar sounds above, but away from that it sounds pretty boring. The last track goes the same direction. With this album, Dragonfly proves that they have moved away from psytrance, and are now heading towards hard house and tech house. Dragonfly was once one of my favourite labels, but what has happened now? I just can`t understand it. This release is so disappointing. damion
For a chunk of last year, it looked like psychedelic London in 2002 belonged to Aphid Moon. A couple of storming singles, some contemporary-legendary live sets in east end venues... the wrapping didn?t stay on this CD for long. But, and it pains me to report this and I only do so out of duty and global compassion, apart from the singles there?s not much else to get excited about. A Lot Of Radio sounds every bit as good as it did when I first heard it and got so excited I almost dropped my sheep, the wonderfully restrained synth line is just as effective as the first time you heard it. Likewise Disco Biscuit carries on the chuggy, 21st century, slightly dirty sound that Aphid Moon made his mark with. Boo is messy and hectic and while it pounds with great effect, it lacks a little direction to get your brain moving in time with your feet. Specta has a nice punch, and a good synth hook though some of the hardhousey elements would alienate the outdoor party crowd. High Diver is a couple of shots over par (has anybody else used a golfing analogy in a psytrance review? Psyreviews thinks not!) and while its Hendrix finale crunches and crashes away, it doesn?t quite grab you by the genitals and fling you at the wall like you want it to. I still maintain that Aphid Moon has a classic album in him, but folks this ain?t it.

Sh*t on a cracker this is boring. Makes Eye to Eye by Astrix sound like the f*cking London Symphony Orchestra. There are some sinister leads he works in there, but it's smothered by the crushing weight of monotony. He got better as the years went on (like all of us), but looking back at the debut it's almost unlistenable. Cover is pretty sweet though.
