Guest krelm[at]ccwf.cc.utexas[dot]edu
Nomad - Hyperactive Artist: Nomad Title: Hyperactive Label: 3D Vision Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 08'02" Gladiator 02. 07'25" You Are Mutant 03. 08'02" Schyzo 04. 07'52" Paper Frame 05. 07'50" Spaceship Trippers 06. 07'07" Stay Clear 07. 08'15" Demons 08. 08'44" Revolution 09. 08'33" On The Planet Earth Review: After several years of 12"s and compilation tracks, the much anticipated first album of DJ Mael aka Nomad is finally released. This is one for the Francophiles, no questions asked. Nomad doesn't break any new ground with this release, but it is one of the year's top releases, nonetheless. The album starts out with the powerful "Gladiator". Peak nighttime track meant to rock a dancefloor until the dancers cannot walk anymore. This track is filled with scratchy sounds, screams, explosions, ending with some female chanting samples. Nice touch, excellent track. T2, "You Are Mutant" eases off a bit with a more groovy feel, not beating you over the head so much as the first. Could work as a morning track. More chanting samples. Great track. T3, "Scyhzo" is another groovy piece that builds into a stormer. Excellent percussion, powerful bassline, explosive ending...definitely will will as a morning track. T4 is "Paper Frame", another good track. Most laid back so far in the album but not boring. Definite emphasis on subtle etherial grooves. T5, "Spaceship Trippers" was previously released on a 12". Good to finally have it on CD. Powerful sound, uplifting melody & feel. Yet another killer. T6 is "Stay Clear", and etherial, rhythmic chugger with hints of melody. Good explosion in the end. T7 is "Demons", and brings it back to nighttime music. Creepy melody and scratchy sounds...probably my least favorite on the album (although still a good track). T8, "Revolution" is a sparse groovy morning piece. Good rhythmic work again. Metallic, but not overwhelming melody. Very bass-driven track good for the morning hours to make the dancefloor groove without tiring them out. T9, "On the Planet Earth" is the most melodic piece on the album. Nice atmosphere with very good tribal-esque percussion and a hint of vocal samples. Gentle, yet a great dancefloor track. Almost reminiscent of Passenger, but definitely better, IMO. One of the best tracks on the album. All in all, this is a wonderful debut album, far better than I was expecting. If you like the French sound, this definitely has that sound to it. It is not solely one-dimensional, though. Some of the more laid-back grooving tracks definitely experiment beyond the typical full-on 3D Vision-esque sound as well. Phenomenal job from Nomad. In short, BUY THIS ALBUM! There is something for everybody on here. Best tracks: 1,2,3,4,8,9 (the rest are great too). Overall rating: 9.5/
Guest Jason - Los Angeles, CA
Nomad is one of my personal favorites. I have been waiting so long for his Album to come out. Finally it is here. I don't have my copy yet. I should have it today (Who Knows with US customs right now.), but I have listened to it and let's just say, it is meant for the dancefloor as trance should be. Great music. Pretty much any song on this CD would rock the dancefloor and have everyone going nuts. A lot of people don't like them, but this is why the 3D Vision crew is the best in my opinion. 3D Vision kicks ass.
Guest *christine* - goachick[at]hotmai
Wow!!! This album has done it for me like none other this year. Nomad blows me away with his full on, but slightly melodic style (slight bit of shock that 3D Vision would release something this melodic- but well appreciated!)..... VERY, very well produced. IMO we need more yummy stuff like this coming out (and being played at parties). I'll be shakin' and groovin' to this one for a while. Guest goa-tacks
This is one of the greatest dark full on tracks. I agree with the first review here. This is the one of the best release of the year. I give 9/10 for this CD. If you like 3D-Vision sounds, go get it.
Guest O-live
Like the rest of 3D Vision release, Hyperactive seems to give priority to the dancefloor language, ie great full-on trance, remenbering Talamasca a bit... Dark and powerfull, favorites are Gladiator, You are a Mutant and Revolution. So... Another bomb from 3D !!!!
PKS
Yes, this is really 3D Vision style. I think the last 4 tracks are the best tracks on this album. Track nr. 8 is the best, with a beautiful opening and a funny start when the beats start pumping. I`m a bit surprised to see that some of you call tracks like nr. 2 morning trance!! It`s really not morning tracks. In the morning you shall have melodies, not hard core banging dark sounds! The last track is a morning track. The rest is banging psy for the night! This album is good, but not great. I have heard so much of this same style the last year, so many of these tracks are nothing special. Is dj Mael from france? Guest Le Lotus Bleu
Very good album from Nomad dedicated to the dancefloor. There's no bad tracks, good ones are 2-3-4-7 and best are 5-9 for me. rating album 8/

alpha
Whoaaaa! Nomad brings us a very strong album, one of the best releases this year definitely! The tracks don't require that much separate reviews, as they are all made of the same, well working components: a weird intro, good build-up and then an explosion to a climax which definitely makes your body move! Good usage of samples spices the album up even more. Definitely dance-floor material, but works well at home too when you're in the mood. This is the way I like it! Favourites 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 Overall: 9/

Guest [Anonymous]
I can't believe you people recommended this Whoever's thinking about buying this, make sure you hear it first. I made the mistake of getting it and soon it will occupy my table as a coaster... All you get from this album is harsh, tweeked out sounds. If you're thinking psychedelic, you're wrong. No dosage of mushrooms out there can help you with this one, it is just a whole lot of mindless noise which you may hear at some candy rave as people are passing out in the morning and they're purposely plying to drive people the fuck out... French psy is cool though for the most part. Get this only if you absolutely feel the need to have an entire Nomad album, otherwise, be happy that you may own some of his singles and that you didn't spend money on something like this. 4/10 you've been warned
