Guest Rx7style
V/A - Ice-O-Lator Artist: Various Title: Ice-O-Lator Label: BooM! Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Fractal Glider : Chasing Ganesh (3d Rmx) 02. Twisted Hobo : Hokey Pokey 03. Transdriver : Vij 04. Rastaliens : Deep Dive 05. Audialize And Mind Manipulation : Scraped Sunday 06. Neoris : Zatmenie 07. Quantum State : Q Generation 08. Distortion Orchestra : The Cage 09. Chi-ad : SS4 Ver 1.3 Review: This compilation is very full on; as if you couldn't tell by the array of artists making an appearance here. The only reason I'm writing a review for this comp at all is to rave about the Chi A.D. track which is an absolute killer. Such vibrant kicks combined with such old school melody... Major, minor, it doesn't matter what's played, it just sounds good. A solid release regardless, and deserving of a 7.5/
Guest Psydark Light
this is one of the bad compils I bought lately. ! first I most say all the compilation track in LOW QUALITY ! I won't give a full review since I already sepnt money for this low quality release and I won't spend my time to give it full review.!!!! Rx7style, Ican't even understand why did u like Chi A.D's track , this is one of the bad tracks Chi A.D did ever (most of the track is in mono !). ----Overall:really bad release from BOOM!...sorry , but I CAN'T recommend it! "BOOM!",I hope next u will release something more quality , or u better don't release it! 3/
Guest Rx7style
If by "low quality" you mean MONO, that's an artistic preference not to separate channels sometimes. I agree that my review of this compilation was somewhat over-zealous, but some of the tracks are catchy and very high energy if anything. As for the Chi A.D. track, I enjoyed it a lot. It was a trip down memory lane if you ask me... I find a lot of Chi A.D.'s other work annoying and usually "cheesy" sounding. This track was on the brink of being that, but for some reason it sounded great when played loud. The track drifts constantly through major--minor measures which is something I don't hear often, and I still think this track is a killer. Maybe if it was remastered you'd like it better. I'll say this track is an 8/10 and the rest of the album is 5/10 after a re-listen.
Guest Dr G
I disagree with the negative sentiments above. I think that this is a good compilation and is definitely different to the majority of comps out there at the moment in that the style is Goa, thumping, hard and fun. This is outdoor music, and far away from the manicured studio work of other trance artists (which, of course, I like) - if the sound is a little grungy at times, that just adds to the atmosphere in my opinion. Fractal Glider and Chi AD are always excellent and the tracks here are no exception, the Rastaliens track is moody and menacing - very good, the Distortion Orchestra track is percussive and has a touch of prog - very nice, Quantum State give us epic synths and a hard unrelenting tech aspect, the Twisted Hobo and Transdriver tracks are good twisted workouts for the dance floor. Matt Boom deserves full marks for continuing to do uncompromisingly kicking compilations that are close to the original spirit of Goa and deserves our support. 8/10 ~*~
