X-Dream - Irritant

This album is alright, as some tracks are very cool. It is not exactly Radio.

If you expect that, then your in for a big dissapointment. The influence of

Irratint in relation to Radio is obvious. This album is more minimal then

their previous main albums, but not very minimal. For the record, this is not

their best album. Regarding all the mixed reviews above: I don't know what you

people expect after all these years. What did you think this album was going

to be like? I mean, Radio is impossible to top, so don't get your hopes up too

high. I have heard the track "Intercorporal stimulator" on some comp before,

so I was not impressed, unless it is a remix. However, several of the tracks

here are pretty cool, although nothing here is revolutionary. This should have

had atleast some innovation after all these years of experience. Some tracks

on this album seem a little too thick and repetitive. They could have been

better. More psychedelic stuff and melody would have been nice. I have to

admitt that I am not that impressed with this new album, but it is still

X-Dream, and it is still cool. This album is influenced from both their main

project (Radio), and side one (Delta). However, Irritant is much closer to

their side project, then Radio. Unfortunately, The Delta is arguably better

then this album, if not literally better. It would have been nice if X-Dream

came out with something incredible like they used to. In conclusion, I need to

listen to this album more, but its cool for now.

X-Dream : Trance = Canada : Hockey. There are many other squads out there that

can compete now on a release-to-release basis, but these guys showed the way

and still influence the way this sort of music is made. And we can't say just

yet that there's an act that's consistently better. The fact that this record

isn't a brand new revolution in the sound is good news, on the whole, for the

scene in a way, because it means that they've been so special that enough

others (to stretch the hockey metaphor, say, the Swedes ...) have picked up

the vibe and made it their own equally valid thing. And this is still a solid

release. They make it sound easy, but the details are crafted minutely if you

pay attention, and it still has that signature X-Dream

rock-em-sock-em-dirty-buzz touch. 9/10 from me.

NOT the x-dream we loved (psychomachine). i guess they need money so they make

music for the masses and not for a few psycho minded people. i am really sorry.

There could have been a different tracklisting, something like: 1.Psychomachine

partII 2.Psychomachine partIII 3. etc... and i presume some would have been

most pleased.... but i wouldn't :) Respect to their new sound!! a very

powerful sound with superb effects, quality (laboratory)samples, freaky

backgrounds, short breaks and subtle melodies if you listen carefully... Much

more pleasing and various then the Delta album for sure! I like tracks 1(like

Delta with better effects),2(somewhat like Radio),4(powerful kick and nice

laboratorysamples),5(like Delta too),8(lots of psychedelia on a driving

bassline)....But my favorites are 'No process' cause it's a just great how

they succeeded in making a blend of a groovy melodyloop ,irritating samples

and mysterious backgroundchords all in 1 powerful tune without me thinking

these sounds don't fit in together; an impressive composition i'd say; X-Dream

are great artists! But without any doubt; UNIVERSAL CHAOS is thé best one

here!!! I'm impressed......and shivvering.... woehaaaa... then the

whistling... :) ... (tracks 4,9 and 10 aren't made for my ears though) ... so

i suggest you buy this if you like dark stuff ... 8/10

Hmm... this is an interesting album from x- dream.. when an x - dream track is

big, its massive.. the huge basslines and rythms these guys create is really

monstrous... imo the killers here are no process, rewind, fall out, universal

chaos.. irritant , thorazin, intercorporal are very nice as well.. the rest

are a bit too experimental for my taste... so all in all a nice album, but

this is not that progressive,,, more a good manifestation of different genres

in the scene at the moment, with a definite lean towards the tech side of

things.. nothing wrong with that, be open minded when you hear this. anyways x

- dream is good as always and it works for me.... 8/10

Ok..heard this album abit more and have discovered a liking for two tracks: NO

PROCESS and THORAZIN...these two are the best on the album. Minimal, but have

a banging beat which is awesome. Great, high energy trance for the dance

floor. X-Dream are one the top 5 psytrance artists out there but this album is

just not that good...they sound too similar to the Delta, Noosphere sound.

Anyway, my advice is to listen to NO PROCESS and THORAZIN..they are very good

tracks. Gonna change my review rating : 5/10

No, no, wait a minute - upon repeated listening, I can say I was wrong above.

This record is still MILES AND MILES ABOVE anything else in the genre. The

subtleties and details ... they bring back that "Oh my God!" to the music. To

those that are still disappointed, it's about the timing. Mixing this back to

back with even the new Wizzy Noise, well, Cyclotron is a really nice record

for 2002, but Irritant is an audio tome for the Ages. This masterpiece is

their best work to date. Apart from "Radio" and their side projects, anything

else you mix in your set is just killing time until you can mix more X-Dream:

"Irritant". They are men among boys. This record risks dragging me back into

psy-trance. Worth the wait and then some - but please let's not go another 4

years this time eh? I can't take it! Holy shit. 10/10 and getting better.

I totally agree with Freak51 above. This is a masterpiece. And i have to

disagree with all above saying that they should go back to their old style and

so on. I love the old X-dream also but ive already got that sound and now its

time for something new, and that is exactly what they have done. Something

new. This piece of art is one of the best electronic albums ever and it will

live long for sure!!!!

10/10

atmospheres , listen to the atmospheres , they suck you through the speakers

... but you have to listen to this extremely loud .. he he ... my favourites

are 1,2,3,4,5,7 and 8 .. this is amazing , a new and powerfull effort for the

psytrance scene .. worth 10/10 .. get this !!!!

I heard this album after a bottle of stoli whilst lying between some Krix

speakers, via a 100w 5 chanel amp. When it was finished I placed it on my CD

shelves beside the Green Nun's "Rock Bitch", R.T.Z's "Dance your ass off", and

Cypher O's "Psychedelia Junglistia.

I then went and played Boggle and Jenga for about an hour. This X-Dream album

can only be described in masturbatory terms as having "organic weight".

ie: if those whacky germans drove a Wrx and dated a girl named Moniqueek, then

this album would be described as "Ful-lee Phat! Siik!!".

MAAD! THIS ALBUM SO ROCKS! hehe, some of you guys reeealy don't like minimal

psytrance do you? why? yes its quite minimal and yes quite different to the

X-Dream we all know [or knew] and loved, but they must move on some time. this

stuff is really cutting edge and such good quality too. massive massive

sounds. truely amazing layering. and i really respect X-Dream for having the

balls to release this album knowing it'll totally divide its huge fan base.

respect. they took a risk but damn it payed off. now all i have to do is see

them live in Melbourne...

I'm a bit confused here. Maybe I just haven't listened to Irritant enough, but

I don't think this music is psychedelic in any way. Every track is basically

the same: pounding, distorted, sounds and sweeps coming and going, break every

once in a while, and continue with more/less sounds. Needless to say I was a

bit disappointed after I bought this. The only track I listen every now and

then is Fall Out (Dong Edit), because of a very powerful part at about 2:50.

So anyway, IMHO too simple, no psychedelia, too repetitive. Maybe it'll grow

on me, but I'm afraid it won't. 4/10.
