X-Dream - Irritant

Once again, X-Dream continues to set the standard for our entire scene.

Combining the best elements of tech-trance with their massive production and

yes, some subtle harmonic counterpoint to the merciless percussion, these

german maestros have crafted us a groundbreaking masterpiece. For those who

say it sounds just like The Delta (as if that could be a bad thing!), I'd

recommend some repeated listenings to Rewind, a truly modern interpretation of

melodic trance. Many of the songs (e.g. no process, thorazin) possess the

sort of "where the hell did THAT come from" feeling. Others (Inter Corporal

Stimulator, Peter's Hoover) just start out hard and take you even further. My

only (extremely minor) complaint is that, after such an intense, heavy

workout, the two downtempo tracks at the end feel a tad superfluous. No

matter though, this album still rocks in all the right ways. If you havn't

heard this yet, then, to paraphrase the black guy from Spaceballs, You Ain't

Heard Shit. A very enthusiastic 10/10 (and you should know I'm not the type

who hands out double digit scores like they was candy ;o)

i´d say if u dont like minimal psy u wont like that one! i have the luck to

like both styles (minimal and fullon). and i really dont know why ya all

complain about The Delta. Schizoeffective for example is a very amazing album,

more than just minimal techtrance. well however... 8.5 for that album. dark

and hard, for those who like dark and hard!

Irritant is like a subway train running on rails of stainless steel, running

with the diesel engine firing unabated, running devoid of passengers,

streaking through the subterranean dimension tinted green from unfrosted

hallogen lights, chugging along sweating and adrenalized but not out of

control - never out of control. Momentarily the train stops where the sunlight

is blinding and the color blue is nowhere to be seen. It stays stationary

briefly before its rusted wheels begin to spin and its exhast pipes scream

with metalic steam. The train emerges a few more times into daylight, stopping

at stations in cold, glistening dimensions, waiting for passengers that never

come. And then slowly and suddenly the ride is over but only briefly as the cd

player returns to track 01 and begins the journey anew.

minimal bullshit, nothing psychedelic in here. a shadow of better x-dream days

(like in "radio"). [3/10]

THIS IS THE TRUTH OF THIS ALBUM: I have spent more time ANALYZING this album. I

don't listen to the minimal, cheap bullshit. Just because this is not as deep

(melody/psychedelic-wise) as maybe RA or Hallucinogen, does not mean it is bad

or even half decent! This actually "IS" the most melodic X-Dream album to date

since "We Created Our Own Happiness." (hear me out) It does not have lots of

melody, but it has more melodic rhythm, as opposed to The Delta and COP, which

was purely hard, powerful, dark riffs, beats, sounds, etc. This album is a

true X-Dream album, not a should-have-been side project. I agree that parts of

certain tracks, especially the last track called "All Rights Reserved," sounds

pretty fucking technoish! It could have been better. But over-all, this album

is not techno at all, and anyone who says that is being ignorant. This is like

a follow-up sequel to RADIO, because X-Dream has not made an X-Dream "titled"

album this dark since RADIO! As far as movies go, the sequal are usually not

better. It is like that in this case, it is not better than the original.

(Radio) Regardless, this album is fresh and different. It is dark, powerful,

and (at times) relentless, like Radio was. It is NOT that psychedelic. It has

less character and insane sounds, like Radio did. It will not revolutionize

like Radio did, because this is taking the formula that we ALL asked for, and

making new music with it. If you want something really dark on this album,

listen to Universal Chaos. If you want a track that is extremely stomping,

throbbing, and powerful, listen to track 5. Tracks 1-4 and 6-9 are all kick

ass in one way or another. Some kick ass much more then others. Track 6 starts

off decent, builds up and fucking rocks! There is one track that involves some

really cool, short, up-lifting melody. It adds character to the track and

makes it very memorable. I don't care for "Peters Hoover" because it is all

crazy, throbbing bass and hard, repetitive beats. But for those who loved or

even liked The Delta....the majority will really like Peters Hoover! Anyway,

this album is not excellent, but it is good. If you like X-Dream, you should

get this album for your collection. It took two full listens for me to agree

to write what I have just wrote. Don't over-analyze everything or you won't

enjoy it, but this album DOES KICK ASS!

glad i've waited to review this album until i listened to it more. i was going

to say that its a great album, but now i am telling you ITS THE BEST EVER.

every track is as good as the best tracks by Delta, you can make TWO if not

THREE Delta albums out of this one by using filler tracks made by hujaboy,

etnica or wizzy noise.

Arrays of sounds forming patters on various levels ... plus a beat so phat you

can almost taste it

9.5/10 the new quality standard for tech-trance

you fuckin people are pathetic. If I take the X-dream name off this album and

release it as say xv kilist or something like that or just some unknown name,

how many of the people who are giving it 10 outta 10, will still do so? This

album is nothing but minimal noise. Its not even a good minimal release.

X-dream I love you guys and your earlier work was groundbreaking but this is

shit and you guys are just living off the X-dream name. What a pity.

I don't like this album at all. I hope that they will go back to their roots.

In the first place I thought that this was not X-Dream.

this isn't a trance album at all...it's techno...don't know how you people can

find this album interesting...each track is like 7 minutes of boredom with

techno loops, techno effects and maybe a sick dark sample here and then but

all in all it's just too boring and not innovative at all..it's

irritating...just like the name of the album says...this kind of music has

been existing on the scene for a long time...the difference is when you go to

a techno party the tracks last 3 or 4 minutes and the dj mixes them like

crazy..it sounds 5 times better then this stuff...here you have tracks that

last 7 or 8 minutes and nothing happens...x-dream ruled before with tracks

such as the second room and psychomachine....this is sad stuff...

Listen to this album on a bad stereo and it will definately live up to its

title. However through a decent stereo it becomes clear that this isn't just

techno shit like many others seem to believe. This album is dark and hard,

true, but there is some seriously melodic and downright haunting trance

floating through many of the tracks. Trax 4 and 7 can get a little grinding

after a while but Tracks like "No Process" ( co-produced with Atmos from what

I could tell from the back of the cover), " Peter's Hoover" and "Rewind" more

than make up for those couple of lowlights. Like most good music this album

needs a good stereo and, above all, time to be fully appreciated. X- Dream are

coming to good old Australia later in the year so I guess I'll get to see just

how much their new shit rocks up loud and live. 9/10

Just AWESOME i could say.... perhaps he took the right way as Manu Le Malin in

hardcore. A killer album for all who wants powerful tracks. 10/10 with no

doubts.

this reelease is very dissapointing... x-dream set my expectations high.. i've

been looking forward to and waiting for a new x-dream cd for years, and this

doesn't live up to the kind of groundbreaking work x-dream was making in the

past. where's the innovation? what happened to x-dream? i can't hear even one

tiny aspect of this cd that's marginally innovative or original.. recycled

rubbish. i am pretty let down. i guess it's like rock and roll.. everyone has

a high point, and then gets washed up and forgotten. x-dream is on their way

out if they keep this up. NOT psychedelic, go listen to your dishwasher and a

drum machine for this kind of sound. 5/10

Whoever says this is techno is retarded. This album DOES have some techno

influences. There is even some techno at times mixed in it (if you would ven

call it that because other layers keep coming in and out) but regardless, this

album truly is - Dark Psytrance. It has it's psychedelic moments and it has

it's more minimal, less complex moments as well. Those familiar with X-Dreams

darker stuff should like this, but don't expect to be in total awe. This is

not the best, but it is cool. (nice cover too:) Some tracks are very powerful

and relentless when listening loud to them, of couse at night. Score 8/10

(pretty good)

mor time, but stoned this time. This album is incredible. You NEED to play it
