Anoebis
V/A - Liquid Artist: Various Title: Liquid Label: Tribe-Adelic Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 06'33" Cosmo Squad : The Boom 02. 07'45" Talamasca : Friendly Quid 03. 07'37" Mr Peculiar : Charlie's Trip 04. 07'21" Space Fly : My Mind Alternating 05. 07'13" Fractal Glider : Witch Doctor 06. 08'15" Lestat And Matt : Ezekiel 07. 08'14" Fractal Glider And Benza : Ghost In The Shell 08. 06'40" Mr Peculiar : Pop A Cell 09. 08'13" Benza : Jusk Ask The Axis 10. 05'45" Orbit Constructions : Boundless Review: I bought this CD because Didg told me it would be my style... And he's right!! (Thanks!!) So, this is the first release of this new Australian label and it's full with not minimalistic full on-tracks... (a little like Boom!'s Electric Ohms)! The first song by Cosmo Squad starts véry Acid with many 303's, but at the end suddently guitars are coming in and they throw the song in a completely different direction... Good start!! The second song is a little too rythmic-orientated with a annoying high-hat... At the end it becomes more melodic (typical Talamasca) but not really good! Number 3 by Mr Peculiar is ok, but nothing more, also véry rhytmic with many effects, but a little soul-less... (but he gives us much better stuff at the end of the CD)! The Space Fly song is fast and véry good, lots of fast melodic effects and a cool break in the middle and véry crazy at the end!! Then we have my favourite by Fractal Glider!! Fast, pumping, new-style full on... Somehow you have GMS-scratching sounds in it but also flying melodies!!! Such a great song... i can't wait for their debute-album on Boom-records! Number 6 is also fast, but not really good imho... The song does not evoluate muc! h... The 7nd song is also Fractal Glider (with Benza) and I also like this one alot... It's typical Fractal Glider-style, altough it's even more twisted!! (thanks Benza!! )) The next song is again by Mr peculiar and I also like it alot, good bassline and many effects and hidden melodies... Works perfect when the night turns into day... Number 9 is by Benza and is véry twisted!! In the whole song you have a melodies going up and down... lovely insane Trance!! )) The last song is trippy Ambient with those lovely Alien-sounding melodies!! So all together the Cd is really good, in the beginning there are some mediocre songs, but after that... Woaww!! 7,5/10!! Guest joeking101[at]hotmail[dot]com
Wooooow !!! Watch out - the French have invaded Australia ! Or is it the Australians that have invaded France ? This is a wonderful compilation. Just right for the summer outdoor party season. It's a full-on compilation. If you like 3D Vision and Moon Spirits releases then you'll love this. Track 1 : Cosmosquad (France) Old Skool goa with guitars - a nice, rolling bassline, I'm not really into guitar trance, but this is a good start for the CD. Track 2 : Talamasca (France). Talamasca fans know what to expect, and won't be disapointed. A nice morning track with a driving bass and full of percussion and layers. Track 3 : Mr Peculiar (Australia). Yeeeeeeeeeeeee (: What a great track - and the Umpa-Lumpa song from the film too. Who can remember the film ??? Think about it !! I can't stop smiling when I hear this track. It could become a classic. Watch out for this guy ! Track 4 : Space Fly (Australia). This is none other than Space Tribe under a differnt name. Very acidic and melodic. The title says it all Track 5 : Fractal Glider (Australia). A wicked, twisted, full-on masterpiece here. Track 6 : Lestat & Matt (France). DJ Lestat teams up with Christof Drouet's younger brother for a fat, pumping journey utilising the now famous Ezekiel sample from Pulp Fiction - guess it must be one of Lestat's favirite samples (remember Lestat & Mael's one ?) Track 7 : Fractal & Benza (Australia). More twisted mayhem. Damn, we need more music like this. Track 8 : Mr Peculair (Australia). Another fine track from this guy. Melodic, layered and extremely psychedelic. Is that a Jean Michelle Jarre riff in there ? Track 9 : Benza (Australia). This is melodic psychedelic trance at it's best - California Sunshine style. Track 10 : Orbit Constructions (Australia). An ambidelic treat to finish this album. Nice melodies. Overall rating 9/10. This compilation flows nicely from start to finish. There is not much to complain about here IMHO. And watch out for Fractal Glider's debut on Boom, and Mr.Peculiar's debut on Tribe-adelic. Run for the hills !!! The AustrAliens are coming !!!!!! (And about time too )
shahar@isratrance
Well, trance from Oz is apparently not just Demon Tea/Psyharmonics? weirdness, or Edgecore breaks- here?s a new Ozzie label with full on classic goa trance- I?m proud to present: the melodic backlash- Oz style... get ready to travel back in time. Starting is Cosmosquad from France- a cross between MFG and SUN Project would be a quite accurate description. As full on as it can be, just as the name suggests, and great work with samples as well. Simple and straight to the point. We go on with the French connection with Talamsca?s Friendly Squid (T2), an ordinary Talamsca tune- nothing special but with Cedric?s usual energy, and irresistible exploding build-ups. Mr. Peculiar, starts representing the Ozzie side, with the really cute Charlies? Trip- great samples from the Wili Wonka?s factory, psychotic flying sounds all around, a lot of energy, ever changing rhythms, and also great work with the melody. A shame about the sound though- it definitely needs an upgrade, but I think this guy should be watched after for some delicious stuff in the future. His trance version for Hot Butter?s Pop Corn- Pop a Cell (T8)- is cute and fun as well, but I would be interested to hear original melodies from this guy. Olli Wisdom & a friend as Space Fly (T4), hmmm, I thought that Goblin stole the kingship of samples from Olli, but this track might change my mind. The 60?s are back here... gotta smile... but the track just doesn?t stands up to it. Could it be an old one that escaped releasing? It sounds a bit like that. A full on packed tune, Olli-style. Fractal Glider, another full on Ozzie, with two tracks here (T5 & T7), one together with Benza- nice for those who missed the old full on melodic Israeli sound, here dipped in a lot of flying psychedelia with an oriental flavor. A travel back in time for me, sound-wise as well. Lestat & Matt with yet another track that uses the Samuel L. Jackson Ezekiel speech (T6), and not in the best way. Nice explosion after the break, though, and then it gets better. Benza with Just Ask the Axis (T9) gives us a more relaxed emotional open track. The track is nice, and the melodies caressing, but the sound is neither. After you go through all that full-on-ness a very nice chilled surprise awaits you. A very nice drum?n?spacey relaxing track from Orbit Construction, with real psychedelic atmosphere- I wish it was longer, though. Gonna search for more from these guys. Bottom Line: The French-Australian full on goa trance connection- for those who missed that- don?t miss this one. If you?re over it, leave it be. Favorites: 1, 3, 10(!). Guest AtomicCow
One of the overrated CDs of the year. 2 tracks I like a lot: 1 which has great clear acid melodies and guitars and 8(!!) which reminds me of Infected Mushroom with it's fairy tale vibe. 6 is alrite. 2,5,9,10 are boring/bad and I always skip them. The rest are somewhere in between. We need more weird melodic tracks like Pop a Cell.
Guest priviatus[at]yahoo[dot]com
Typical mainstream commercially packaged shit-trance...Anybody who likes this probably likes the garbage trance played in clubs around Cancun Mexico. This CD is what etch-a-sketch is to art.
Guest Skywalker from Lugansk-City, Ukr
One of the best goa album's that I have. The sound is melodic, especially first track: Cosmic Squad Fractal Glider is nice surprise for me from Australia. So, thanks to Tribadelic Records... Guest MicK dundee
This is outdated and tacky - very badly mastered - I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy this CD, let alone rip it. I'm suprised that there are people who are actually enjoying it - I would guess that half of the above positive reviews were written by people involved with this CD. Anoebis, i am shocked by your glowing review...
seraph
Interesting compilation...Lots of good song but mediocre ones as well...This is pleasant surprise in the era of minimal and progressive....Best on compilation are : CHARLIE'S TRIP, MY MIND ALTERING, WITCH DOCTOR ( ! ),GHOST IN THE SHELL, POP A CELL, BOUNDLESS...So, all in all, pretty good release...7.5/
Guest Tchankov I.V.
I agree that this Tribe-Abelic debut compilation is somehow overhyped. Since the moment I obtained it in 2001 I felt smth. wrong with it, but couldn't exactly elaborate on what was that. Now I can tell... There was no point putting french tracks 2,6 here as their energy is not fair for Australian compilation, in other words they spoil the flow. That can not be said, though, about the 1st track which is rather good starter indeed. But tracks 4,9,10 are also offering nothing to keep me interested in. The second half of this compilation includes tracks produced by esteemed australian projects: Fractal Glider & Mr.Peculiar (3,5,7,8) - although none of these is real killer, they're still pretty good tracks with many interesting tricks & ideas. If they were properly combined with some killer tracks from either australian or scandinavian artists (Orebro denizens, to name a few - this compilation would be a BomB! But what a predicament is what we've got here instead - odd tracks getting even with even! No, I can't stand such misled order of things, not to content with such low production value either. Having said that, my memory still holds some good moments in tracks 1,3,5,7,8. These tracks limited, my mark would be 7,5/10, but as this is not the case, so just 6/10. Tchankov I.V.
