DeathPosture
Sounds very promesing from what I've heard on Psyshop.... I could do without the Trip Tonite though - it's a bit worn out isn't it? DeathPosture
Guest --== MiLeS ==--
Kinda jazzy, funky chillout music (influences: Amon Tobin T1,2,12 Fun loving Criminals T3, Massive Attack T9, Aphex Twin T13) for coffeeshops (hence the name) and thus a tad different than your average psyambient compil. Maybe Backroom Beats is a good reference. Although it is pretty decent and refreshing, when the first tones of Triptonite emerge U actually hear how damn good Etnica's own psyambient format is (Hells Kitchen, Beast Man, Baraka, Patricia our Happy). But at least here the Etnica guys show they are far more capable than just being hard pounding techtrance act numero zillion (Nitrox/Chrome)... Yeah, I would recommend Macao Cafe ... Guest Lunar Man
V/A - Macao Cafe 1 Artist: Various Title: Macao Cafe 1 Label: Etnica.Net Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 5'29" Federico Baltimore : Tobin Or Not Tobin ? 02. 7'23" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : Evolution Of Merkaba 03. 6'20" Ju Ju Space Jazz : Undercover Mystic 04. 4'54" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza And Cato : Homicide 05. 6'05" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : Flamencos 06. 5'03" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : Candyman 07. 3'29" J Doe/B : Buchbinder 08. 6'25" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : What You Gonna Do ?! 09. 4'50" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : The End Of The Beginning 10. 7'46" Etnica : Triptonite (Playa Mix) 11. 6'33" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : Sailing 12. 5'09" Sergio Mendoza y Federico Baltimore : Levante 13. 3'27" Phuture Sound Of Ibiza : Forget About It ... Review: A CD released on Etnicanet. I guess it's tribute to a cafe in Ibiza. Don't except anything Psychedelic, more an Ambient, World and relaxing CD. I can also tell you that P.S.O.I. (Phuture Sound Of Ibiza) is Max Lanfranconi and Maurizio Begottis new Project..Also Federico Baltimore is Dado (Deedrah/synthetic)..The only track new from before is etnica - Triptonite from the Nitrox album. Many of the tracks uses guitar and the rythm section is awesome. Sounds like a real drummer..My favourite track here is Sailing from P.S.O.I. for it's great mystic feeling and Etnica-melody...the track Sergio Mendoza y Federico Baltimore - Levante has the most beautifull accoustic guitar melody i heard. Sounds a little like Desperado with Antonio Banderas I think all the tracks are good and it's a CD worth at least tp check out in this dark period of Trance. Waiting for the Second Macao Café. A strong 8 From Me. BOM!
mars
Most of the tracks sound louge with the Etnica touch...they have always been good at composing ambient. Yet this looks more like an album. Musically speaking, the whole cd is very relaxing, with not so many synthetic instruments. Here you can hear guitar, castanets, flute, piano, etc... The tracks in which you recognize most the Etnica expertise are nr. 9,10,2,4. I can add that Sergio Mendoza is Serge(Antidote/Total Eclipse), and Deedrah and him have also managed to give this lounge touch... Overall this is a good compil to listen to at home in casual situations... 8/10.
Guest Psylent Buddhi
An average effort from the Etnica guys, and the best tracks on this disc aren't even from them. Ju Ju Space Jazz, Deedrah and Serge have produced the only interesting outings on this compilation. The rest is somewhat formulaic. When I'm in the mood for music like this, I'd rather throw The Cinematic Orchestra in the cd-player than this. /PB
Guest gs
Etnica's showing off their musical skills with a very nice compilation of funky grooves, beautiful soundscapes & sonic psychedelics. Best served in warm summer nights.
Guest --==1400MiLeS==--
Not exactly impressed by the one-dimensional play-it-safe techtrance bandwagonjumping of Etnica's 'Chrome', I gave this tribute to Ibiza's Macao Cafe a spin and in short its a deliciously sweet collection of worldmusic/chillout which is remotely comparable to Shpongle's deep trip 'Tales of the inexpressible' as P.S.O.I. also throws in many analogue instruments and there is a heavy latin flavour. The comparison ends there as Macao Cafe is less trippy, more down-to-earth but foremost this is an excellent showcase of the diversity Etnica is capable of. That they also managed to produce the ultimate lazy summer nite experience is an even bigger accomplishment. Fav trax: 1,2,5,9,10,11 and 12. Very recommended but only apply if your ears can appreciate some jazz, fusion and flamenco: 8.5/10.
