Guest Ubik
Quirk - Machina Electra And Fornax Chemica Artist: Quirk Title: Machina Electra And Fornax Chemica Label: Matsuri Date: 1998 Track listing: 01. 06'56" Institute 02. 08'06" Lofi Scifi 03. 08'39" Mystic Linguistic 04. 09'38" Dance With The Devil 05. 08'54" The Church Of Sinister Footwork 06. 07'30" Spy Vs Spy 07. 08'41" Ping 08. 07'22" Gagaku 09. 07'20" Haile Senseitive Review: Weird... That's what you think the first time you hear it. Actually, only half of the album really makes sense for me : Lofi Scifi, Mystic Linguistic, Ping and Gagaku. These tracks are well build, with lots of originality in the samples used. Also Institute is an ok ambient intro. But the rest is very strange : some classical music is mixed with an accoustic bass and so on... Lofi Scifi is really a great track, pretty fast. Ping is also pretty good, especially in his second part. Mystic Linguistic is some kind of happy ambient, very enjoyable, and Gagaku is also pretty ambient with some chinese stuff in the first part and a very nice melody after. Spy VS Spy is also ok with a strong bass line. 6/
Guest Pit-UFO
Quirk is the kind of band that is always taking risks and pushing the electronic limits. I really admire their dedication in every tune. This album is for people that like to be tested and go beyond the superficial sounds. People that study songs. A true experience full of great samples and weird noises. PING deserves a special mention, its like a cartoon laboratory journey, to create that track must have been an edition nightmare.Fasten your seat belts, your brain and enjoy the trip. 9/
Guest Tim Healy
Its not trance and shouldn't be classified as trance.Only for those who like abstract techno sounds. The only good track that has a trance like bassline is Ping. They sound even worse live. You have been warned.
Guest AtomikElf
this is an album that is definitely different. it's extremely trancey, so watch out - you might get sucked in. i love it. don't even try to compare this with pleiadians, hallucinogen, astral projection, etc. it's not hardcore goatrance, more loungy, gwaffed, very trippy, slower/lighter, TRANCE. if you don't expect a party out of this cd, you'll start loving it more and more. at first, i was like...what the hell is this, then after some time, u play it anyway, under different circumstances, and you click. it's groovy, extremely trancey/trippy and sucks you in. basically, what i'm saying is....sit down (maybe get stoned), and absorb the sounds - it's awesome. 7.5/

Guest mikrozomme[at]bgvirtual[dot]zzn[
Hmmmmm...this is supposed to be very complex and chaotic production, but I don't think it is well done. Some awful samples and that track 3-pure shit.If you're searching for weird complexity buy "Cryptic Crunch" from Hux Flux. This is not a must for there is one good track-"Ping".5/
Guest slinker
some good tracks and some damn awful ones (mistic linguistic for example) when its good its really good and when its crap its really crap....not as good as the follow up album, but `Ping` and `Dance with the Devil` are stormingly good tracks that will be appreciated by any psy-trance lover....10/10 for those 2...6/10 for the others! vOrTeXdReAm
Very quirky 303 sounds. Melodic, but still experimental. Hard to explain. Some Ambient/Dub influences, but mainly hard, kicking Psytrance. All tracks are special and original, which makes it hard to pick out a favourite... But "Mystic Linguistic", "Lofi Scifi" and (of course) "Ping" are terrific. Some of you might not like it. It takes an open mind to appreciate this release. Guest AlexG
this is one of my favorite albums of all time! top spots are "mystic linguistic", "ping", "church of sinister footwork", and the best one here (in my opinion) "lofi scifi"! for a taste of something different, as well as a little nostalgia, get this and you will be pleased

Guest Renyones
It's an other concept of PSY GOA TRANCE out of the traditional sounds of this stile. Mark & Tim are two genius. This album is pure innovation in the GOA genre. (10/10)
Guest QuazKvas
Listen to Lofi scifi at 3 am in night tkae a deep breath look in the way to eternal moon, for misterious stars and tell me that you don't feel strange felling in your mind and heart... espacially in the and when this beatiful, strange voice get into your soul... awesome thing !!! I don't listen to psy trance (i'm acid techno dj) but it cannot be class as anything that exist. That the style of Quirk.. 12/
Guest deviantdidg[at]yahoo.co[dot]uk
It's easy to criticise isn't it? I haven't heard any of Tim's stuff, but I work with Colin Bennun an erstwhile conspirator of Tim's, and if his stuff is anything like Colin's then it's wicked... For those who say that the album is complete shit etc., do you have any released music that we can review? Guest Me
I don't understand you guys! I heard this album for the first time tripping on a high mountain in the middle of the night. This music is just amazing! its quite hard to understand it, but when you eat LSD and listen to this music it makes total sense! every sample sounds perfect and just in place. The music is interesting, atmospheric, funny, warming, putting you in places you havn't been before. HIGHLY recommended to who had never heard it before. after 100 times it becomes predicted

Guest peaceful warrior
This album really suprised me. I bought it because I wanted to try something new and different. I was not disappointed. In fact this is one of my favorite cds of all time. It is just full of originality. Things you have never heard before. Quirk are one of the most underrated groups out there in my opinion. This album is genious. They have managed to create something truly unique that is also very very good. I do think you need an open mind to appreciate this release. If you are the type to have stupid preconcieved ideas about what psytrance must sound like, then you probably wont understand this. But if you are ready for something new, you wont be dissapointed. This album is truly special. They have created their own sound and it is as original as the best of them. The way they put together all sorts of sounds (electronic and natural) is really unique. Sometimes it seems that all the sounds should be really chaotic but somehow they make it work perfectly. They use all kinds of strange sci-fi samples that set the tone for the album. Its a really quirky, weirdo style that I find to be very appealing. The fact that there are three down-tempo tracks on the album may turn off some people but I would recomend that you not miss them they are very good. The album as a whole is a stimulating journey into uncharted territory. To my knowledge there is no other artist that has quite the same style. I just don't understand why Quirk haven't recieved more recognition. I hope they continue to put out more music. I think everyone should give them an open-minded listen. Welcome to the world of Quirk.
