Guest rx7style
Qlap - Magnetic Boots Artist: Qlap Title: Magnetic Boots Label: Digital Structures Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Magnetic Boots 02. Puck El Pisto Review: Filip Mardberg gives us a supposed dance-floor oriented release under the side-project name Qlap. I've listened to tracks produced under the name Ticon and Tripticon before, but this music is much different. Magnetic Boots is a very, very minimal tech-trance type sound that must ONLY sound good on large systems... it's too boring for normal listening. It has the same beat for the entire duration of the track, with some sound/noise -- no MUSIC to be heard whoatsoever. The build and denoument are too drawn out in this track too -- it's a waste of a track listening to a beat and a high-hat for 6+ measures, then hearing one more little repetitive noise thrown in. Not a good track, 2/10. Puck El Pisto has more energy to it, and more rhythm. It's a shorter track, but you could drop the needle right at the beginning and be right into the thick of things anyway... much more impressive. It saves this EP from being a total waste IMO. 6/10 I wouldn't recommend this EP to anyone though.
Guest Ubik
I only heard Puck El Pisto from the footprints comp and I love it, really great evolving rythm patterns I think.
Guest [Anonymous]
i think rx7style is completely wrong. magnetic boots is one of the most pumping tracks i've ever heard. it is not boring at all - the sound is strong and groovy. if someone likes full-on then indeed it is better for him to avoid this ep, but if you love tech-trance get it, it will leave no dancefloor unmoved! great stuff. 8.5/
Guest [Anonymous]
rx7style youre completely wrong, Qlap isnt only Filip Mardberg, your missing out 3 more persons....Ticon and son kite.
Guest rx7style
Isn't it funny how Ticon = Filip Mardberg "Anonymous"? Or do they separate into two people just to become Qlap? This EP sucks balls and that's all there is to it. Even if Son Kite is involved [which I don't see any evidence of on the record insert or casing] then he should be reprimanded as well! This is advertised as ?TRANCE? music, not minimal techno ? I don?t even know why it?s being allowed on to a psytrance forum. Awful garbage. GaySatanicHippie
THis is Ticon + Son Kite, but I have to say this is my least favourite DS and Qlap release, even though im usually a really big fan of both. Well, everybody missis sometimes, but my friend who is a techno DJ loves it, and i gave the record to him and he spins it at techno parties. Guest Stormbringer
I like it very much! Deep thick basslines and a very catchy monotonous groove. Excellent!
Guest Seb Mullaert
Ticon=Filip and Fredrik Son Kite = 2 persons Qlap = 4 persons rx7style - "I don?t even know why it?s being allowed on to a psytrance forum. Awful garbage." - Why did you write the review at all???? btw .... I find the tracks really nice Seb
Guest Seb Mullaert
Of course I'm silly .... I'm very silly But in this case rx7 don't think it should "be allowed on the forum" ... that is something completley different from disliking something. But please don't missunderstand my I don't bother. I'm happy happy .... just qlap your hands and smile Seb
Guest rx7style
Whoa, I didn't realize my review would offend so many people! Seb you have to remember that this is a review to be taken lightly: information for people to think about when going to make their next purchase. When I said "I don?t even know why it?s being allowed on to a psytrance forum", it wasn't because of what I think of this EP, or a diss to the artists or anything like that... simply that I thought it was more minimal TECHNO than anything else [bad at that IMO], and that is why I didn't think it even qualified for the psytrance forum... it's about as far from the genre as dub or gangsta rap, etc... that's all -- don't take offense to what I say people, it's just me reviewing music! Am I not allowed to voice my opinion when I don't like an EP? I like MOST things 8^)
Guest Nois
There is only a subtle distinction between minimal trance and minimal techno nowadays... For example, some of the tracks form the newest album of the Delta (like MJ Error) sound just like pure minimal techno, same with kopfuss resonator, eargear and so on. And, even more, minimal techno artists start to release their music on labels such as d.drum and baluns. Why? Because their music also IS SO FUCKIN' PSYCHEDELIC! If we call the music psychedelic doesn't mean that it has a lot of twisted electronic melodies, but that it twists your brain, affects your mood and such. So You are allowed to tell us that You do not like this EP, but don't tell me that this is no music, or wrong genre. Trance is a kind of TECHNO music. And there is nothing wrong with tech-trance, you can like it or not, but it is still psychedelic dance music, and belongs here. Hehe... what an essay... Goa Bill
Arghhh this EP is awesome. Some tracks take time to get appreciated. Son Kite and Ticon doing full blown tech trance tracks. Who'd believe it today? 9/
