Guest Stormbringer
Talamasca - Magnetic Fields / Vacation Time Artist: Talamasca Title: Magnetic Fields / Vacation Time Label: Spiral Trax Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Magnetic Fields 02. Vacation Time Review: My first reaction when I heard that Talamasca was about to release a 12" on Spiral Trax was that something had to be very wrong. I´ve never heard Anti play such music before even though it was pretty long since I´ve heard him dj the last time. Talamasca on Spiral Trax??? That could not be true? Why would Anti release such music on his label? I don´t understand this, but I can tell you that if I had my own label and had the chance to release these two tracks... well... I wouldn´t have to think for too long before I changed my labelprofile a bit. These two tracks are the best work Talamasca has made so far in my opinion, even better than "Drops Of Madness" from his album "Beyond The Mask" (3D-Vision). "Magnetic Fields" (9/10)... hmm... it´s friday (when I´m writing this!) and the weekend begins. I´ve noooooooooo problems at all to use this track to get into some real partymood even though I´m alone. Soon the neighbours will join me stompin´ and screamin´ , Ha ha!, I´ll promise you that ;-) "Magnetic Fields" isn´t anything we´ve never heard before but it´s quality partymusic! If you enjoy the sound of 3D-Vision and Moon Spirits you´ll then love this. 150 bpm = partymusic! I just listened to his album to be able to compare it with this ep, and these two tracks are so much better. "Vacation Time" (8/10) is another up-tempo partyfriendly track with some cool voicesamples just as "Magnetic Fields". You all know about 3D-Vision right? So I don´t have to get into details, do I? If you´re into energetic partymusic like the kind released on 3D-Vision and Moon Spirits... what are you waiting for? If you don´t allready own a lot of releases sounding in this fashion you´ll think it´s great. As I said, this isn´t anything new but it´s still really good, and I enjoy it even though I own most releases from both 3D-Vision and Moon Spirits. Guest HAch
Talamasca is without any doubt the best artist so far in this 2001 psychedelic year. Genetic monster, come on and tribalistic had drop to madness and make dance more goa heads than any other tracks in all the parties over the world. The psychedelic trance scene, like any other genre of music, need some big personality (in terms of music), that could take the scene and make it more listenable. Since that simon posford has put his brain and talent in other good, but very diferent music this empty in the scene could been taken now by many good new artists. It´s time to make changes and reinvent in some of the must unbreakable and untoucable rules of psychedelic trance (and i´m not talking about anything of the minimal crappy sound). Talamasca has now the oportunity to make that the emptyness and no sense of this year in trance could lead us to something new and good. im not saying that he is the new guru of this music, he has many way of the road to walk, but im trying to say that he (like others like cristof or ari) knows what does people want to listen in a party and that is all about, the parties. 9/10. Guest [Anonymous]
*Sighs* I tried to like this ep, I REALLY did. If it was anyone else but Talamasca I would probably say the A side is ok, the b side doesn't really go anywhere...but it is Talamasca and I was expecting more. When the melody kicks in on Magnetic Fields the song really takes off and there is a good twist to the song halfway through. I haven't heard this on a loud system but I have to say I'm a little disappointed. 5/10.
