Children
Alien Project - Midnight Sun Artist: Alien Project Title: Midnight Sun Label: Phonokol Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 07'20" Alien Project And Astrix : Midnight Sun 02. 07'15" Alien Project And Astrix : Magnetic 03. 08'29" Alien Project And Orion : Beat Static 04. 08'46" Alien Project : DNA (Rmx) 05. 08'40" Alien Project And Astrix : Electro 06. 06'07" Alien Project And Astrix : Have A Nice Day 07. 06'31" Alien Project And Earthling : Ghost 08. 07'21" Alien Project : Desert Incident 09. 08'39" Alien Project And Orion : The Alien Meeting Review: Pretty Good album ! This new Israeli group is really astonishing, and I think that's the first Israeli album with so much psychedelia (maybe with DNA : Virtual Jungle) ! This style is very close to the GMS one, with some Infected influences in the kick and some melodies. But it's much more GMS influenced than anything else. Track 1 (as most of the Tracks here) uses usual GMS effects, with few melodies and sometimes an Infected guitar and tribal sounds at the end of the Track, in background ... good one. Track 2 starts with vocals and is less melodic, more psychedelic ... maybe the bass should not have been that loud in this Track ... interesting, not unforgettable. Track 3 starts with a very good bass. Track 3 is quite monotonous, nothing special ?ETrack 4 is more powerful, certainly very good to dance on, but the bass is a little repetitive. Track 5 is more Space Cat influenced at the beginning, more GMS influenced at the middle, more Logic Bomb influenced at the end ?ETrack 6 starts with a heavy kick while a single note is repeated in background every 4 beats, then a more Space Cat sample appears, then new snares and a Logic Bomb influenced melody. Track 7 has more funky influences ?Eone of the best Tracks here in my opinion. Track 8 is pretty calm compared to the other Tracks of this album. Tribal drum at the beginning, soft melody then tribal drums again and the Track becomes more powerful. The bass of the last Track is a little repetitive, but the Track is still intereseting ... maybe it's not enough powerful though. Overall a very promising debut album from "Ari Linker", but some Tracks are a little repetitive here. I'm sure the next one will reach the grade of "Good Album", maybe more ;-) Rating : 6.5/
mars
This album is ok for people who like a few melodies. The artist needs to improve a little bit because the thing is a bit repetitive (less repetitive than other albums, yet!). The influences are mainly from GMS/Israeli artists. Overall it's good for a debut album. it must be crazy to hear some parts on a dancefloor. 7/10.
max
I do agree with u guys...good album !!! And some tracks are simply amazing of crazyness ! Beat Static and DNA !!! WOW I rather the track not too GMSized. If you don't like GMS like me listen that album anyway because only the drums sounds the same...the rest is Domestic/3D Vision stuff. On the dancefloor this album must be a TSunami.
Guest Goa Spirit
i have heard this one and my natural reaction was nice... alien project makes some rocking dancefloor oriented music/./ thats where i would stop... only thing is the fact that a lot of the music might like staying power and one may get sick of it after a while... however on the whole.. i liked this release from israel... Guest Acidhive
Good stuff! I just listened to the whole album this evening and must say it rocks! Although it's the same style throughout, this is just the way I like my psytrance to sound. Pure, regular psytrance here and no minimalism, which is great for a change... ! My fave songs here are all, there is not one downer on this one. It contains lots of samples from top-movies, like nr. 2 with the samples from Species, nr. 7 with samples from Hollow Man and so on.. The little kid is sampled from The Sixth Sense I believe... though I'm not sure. Anyway, this album deserves 8,5/10. Take this and party! Oh, another note: I still don't see why some people need drugs to appreciate psytrance... !! I've appreciated it for years without drugs. And by the way, drugs WILL shorten your lifespan folks!! akindo
This is a really nice album, one that I am very happy I bought. At first I thought it was a bit boring, especially tracks like #2 and #5. A bit minimal, because the bassline is so pervasive. But after hearing these two tracks while coming down from some mushrooms, I thought they were great. Sounds swirling around. Track #2 is more playing with the percussion, which is ok too. The one track which I like the least is #8. It might be good in late morning hours because of it's weirdness. If you like crazy psytrance with a phat groove, get this one!
Guest Psyentist
This guy is very good at what he does but you cannot pass by the obvius influences, or maybe you can and say that it's a unique style. It really depends on how you look at it, because of the greed and problems in the psy'trance scene today you cannot overlook tha fact that there are many copycaters today, they just add something special (or the same but different) and put it out as soon as possible to make some money, I'm not saying that this is the case here like I said before It has some good quality sound and some amazing tracks but just a couple for this first album is a good one live this guy is very good but he should of carved more into his tracks. Even so a good piece of work. I look forward to his next album, and i wish that with his skills he does something new with full on crazy madness, I'm sure he knows he's music. Create something different, this album sets up some controversy.
Guest oleshkin[at]yahoo[dot]com
Very well done! Exc-fucking-lent. i have over 250 psy-trance albums on my hard drive, and this is probably the best dance music I have. Excellent, minimal, and solid. I LOVE YOU, AP! Definitely a style of their own. I agree with elyot above: I'm definitely waiting for hte next one. This is what goa trance should start evolving to. I know some hardcore goa DJs: about half of them don't spin israeli trance. Why?, I asked once. "It's too limiting" was the answer. I think this album definitely doesn't fit in that category. And amazing album -- go buy it. Guest VBRunner
When I first heard this album, I liked it. Now that I've listened to it for a while, I absolutely love it. Clear influences from GMS and common minimalism are combined to create a unique style. Perfect dancefloor music full of energy! DNA (remix) is the wildest track here, but they're all great! Definitely my favorite album at the moment. Great debut!
Guest Goa Spirit
I wrote a review a couple of months ago, in which i stated that this album might lack staying power. Well i was wrong, coz it is still one of my favorite releases this year. O.K. it may me very gms like, but that is not bad in my book. Good basslines, nice scratchy sounds to make everyone on the floor twist.// and you have the formula these clever israelis have discovered... This stuff works wonders in the mornings... in addition, their other release genetic eyes is a real killer too... amazing soundscapes in that one... perfect for early dawn hour... peace
Guest Slidingtrancer
I'm probably the only one who thinks this is shallow, clubby, cheezy eurotrance with some psychedelic layers? I like GMS much better, this is too clear, overproduced, with eurotrance melodies, repetitive and it's really boring. I must be the only one here who DOESN'T like it, but for my ears its not really that psychedelic, 5/10 for the effort of trying to combine euroclubtrance with psychedelica. Guest mthole.home.nl
Alien project is in my opinion the best newcommer for 2001. Phat sounds, heavenly beats, and nice work with those delay effects. Monotonic ? Great ! I love monotonous pounding never ending beats. Also very enjoyable in the car, because of its minimal style and spaced out melodies and effects. Weird shit !
Guest ChrisdeeACiD
hmm... DNA amazes me. I just don´t know what to say.. That track has gotta be made by some aliens performing some kind of research during a project or something (haahaa.. very funny. NoT.. but anyway It makes me smile every time a hear it.. but yet.. it still remains soo psychedelic with that touch of spooky atmospheres.. Rest of the tracks are spectacular as well...I Simply LoVe iT!
