Guest Infected Max
Ticon - Mona Bona Artist: Ticon Title: Mona Bona Label: Digital Structures Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 08'24" Mona Bona 02. 08'25" Deep Fried Cricket Review: Ticon is a kinda new artist on the trance scene. Coming from Sweden he already released track on prestigious label as TIP, Hadshot and soon Transient. I was expecting a good EP since i heard his previous releases but i must say i was completely MINDBLOWED. Forget the ultra minimalistic and sometimes weak (if listening at home) Ticon style. This EP is FAT as hell. It seems the guys decided to boost their production. It's an earthquake. A. Mona Bona Very groovy beginning with usual Ticon excellent work on rythmic sections. And after a break the track is on the railroad for floorkilling. After a progressive increase of pressure, congas appears for a trance/techno sensation. Definitely a killer born to partys. B. Deep Fried Cricket This is the excellent surprise of the EP. The B tracks is better than the first one and I must say i'm still mindshocked while writting this review. I feel what i felt the first time i heard X-Dream - Radio. A trip into loud and ultra synthetic side of Trance. Maybe my brain is confused but if someone had hidden the name of the artist i would have thought it was a collaboration between X-Dream (for the loud bass) And boosted Atmos (for the few floating leads) and Ticon for the Rythmic section. The bassdrum used in this track is not a weak thing you can often ear in Scando production...it's the HAMMER of HELL. I'm still waiting the end of the year to tell my decision but for now TICON is my discover of the year (with Atmos). If this is minimalistic stuff (hard to admit) i'm definitely minimalistic. Guest Dead74
Mona Bone is weak and boring, but Deep Fried Cricket is a dope track. I think Max said it all. It's really tight and groovey...yum! 7.5/
