Guest nico_steinacker[at]hotmail[dot]c
Morphem - Monitoring Artist: Morphem Title: Monitoring Label: Zillion Mental Anarchie Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 07'00" 15 Seconds 02. 07'33" Ambrosia 03. 08'12" Rubberdub 04. 04'16" Tobeinbetween 05. 07'42" Gamelord 06. 09'59" Slavetotrance 07. 07'24" Actinium 227 08. 07'33" Protek 09. 09'12" Forward ? 10. 09'31" Funkyfish Review: I´ve just bought 7 new CD´s so there´s much to do the next days. The first review I´m writing is MONITORING by MORPHEM. Track number one (15 seconds) starts off with a male chorus that croons deeply in the background - "as tough it were a horrible form of life". You can hear some telegram-beeps, this first Track reminds me much of the almost genius last Track "scientific coverup" by Atmos. Ambient style, a heavy base (90bmp) and a tik-tak hihat. Track number two (ambrosia) begins with a baseline sounding like bitmonx vs. fabio - "erdbeer-kiwi" but much more stomping. There is not really much sound to describe, but what you can hear is absolute lucky power for any situation - either cleaning the room, driving a car ,sitting on a sofa or on the dancefloor (140 bpm). Track nummero tre (rubberdub, 142 bpm) begins with a very floating - or rather swinging sound that is veery psychedelic with many different melodies and sounds surrounding the listener and joining him on his trip. Not much different from the second Track beside that woo woo woo supporting the bass. Der vierte Track (tobeinbetween) spinning at relaxing 133 bpm and only about four minutes long, starts off only with a series of closed hihats. The base joins in for a very slow 1/2 beat (a kick on every 2nd takt), before it fades away and - Track five (gameLord) starts and pushes the player deep into his seat af if he would just have pushed the afterburner. GameLord is the right name for that track (144 bpm). It reminds me of playing Xtreme-G or Wipeout with its industrial and modern sounding kick that forces the listener to stand up and jump around the whole neighbourhood. Not aggressive nor rude, but veery danceable - till the last second. Track number six (slaveToTrance) starts off slowly with an "intro" of 2.40 minutes - sounds good on long Dj mixes. This track with its short but cracy melody reminds me some kind of Quadra - "Digital Stimulant" altough really not the same style, but also very mind expanding. With its 10 minutes length at 142 bpm this song seems to me as if it was the peak in the evolution of this album. Track seven (actinium 227, 112 bpm) is another ambient Track, much faster than Track one, but actually not that surprising. This sound is - like all other Tracks of this album not very complex but as always clear and clean like the next, Track eight (proTek) that again starts off like a rocket altough not sounding that fast. Very simple melody but because of this very minimalistic trance @ 140 bpm. Track nine (forward ?) runs at 148 bpm - in my opinion somewhat too fast for this minimal track that is again partly very melodic (but never cheesy melodies). The final Track (funkyFish) is again one slow Track bumping at 100 bpm - very relaxing - an ideal Track to startup a set or end a full-on party night with. Enjoy the sun on your belly. All in all a very repetetive, as an album maybe too boring sound, played as single tracks every one of them can be enjoyed in it´s complexity and atmosphere. Not a must have, but a good choice for minimal trancers. 8.5 out of 10. (I´m writing this review while listening the first time to that album - so I´m sure there will be another review in a week or so, when the album has grown on me.) See further down... freak51
Parts of this record are really nice: 15 seconds, Pro-Tek, a couple of other tracks. But too much of this sounds like standard ZMA. I was hoping for more personality. This would probably mix nicely with Future Prophecy, but I made the mistake of mixing it in from the new Shpongle, and it was like, 'where did all the flavour go?' It is acceptable to wait several years between releases, but if an act does I prefer having the release worth the wait. It sounds to me like they didn't put a whole lot of effort in here. 6/10. Guest dernuk
Morphem sounds like a Psychedelic GREEN VELVET, yeah, lots of kicks, like dancing in the middle of millions of amorphous bubbles, but, where is the Psycho in it?? I'll give it 6.5/

seraph
Very strange album, but good...It is mixture of minimal and psychedelic and it is very strange structure at some stages but in total is pretty good album...The only one I really dislike is FunkyFish...Very good ones are GAMELORD, SLAVE TO TRANCE ( ! ), ACTINIUM 227 ( ! ), FORWARD ?...AMBROSIA is not bad either...6.5/
Mindphilux
I liked his Out of Focus album better. This one is good, but not as creative in my ears. His first CD seemed to have more diversity and appeal. This one is no pushover though.. Game Lord and Pro Tek get 2 thumbs up from me
