Guest Rx7style
Grey Area - Penumbra Artist: Grey Area Title: Penumbra Label: Plusquam Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. Sombre 02. Semantics 03. Slowly 04. Routine 05. Penumbra 06. Modular Drift 07. Hiver 08. Immacule Eight 09. Long Distance 10. At Last Review: Holy Penumbra! No uncertainty here this is some scintillating down-tempo from a formerly much more dramatic sounding Alex Salter, known as Grey Area. Every track is deep, groovy, jazzy, funky, rhythmic - you name it. This is such nice music to sit down and just relax to. Sparkly little riffs of melody are in stratum with careful percussion in a very well mastered and produced album. What's most unique is that nothing sounds formulaic at all just unscripted, unadulterated musical progressions and cadence. To this I say, whats wrong with simple??? Simplicity sounds so smooth when executed proficiently, which Alex has achieved. In depth review isn't required: you must listen to this journey through to completion. Each track adds to the entirety of the album, so dissecting it would be indecorous. Just enjoy these spacey, unearthly compositions created by this Australian connoisseur of chilled music. Guest Rx7style
I just wanted to stress that this is for the chill-out section, definitely not psychedelic or goa!!! And just a little additive; tracks 9 and 10 are ehtereal. Just beautiful music. Children should consider moving this album to the correct area of this site. Guest Russ
It's a beautiful album, one of the better pieces of music to emerge from the psy-chill scene. Very original and peaceful and psychedelic in a "god is the details" kind of way. Highly recommended!
