Guest Stormbringer
Juno Reactor - Pistolero Artist: Juno Reactor Title: Pistolero Label: Blue Room Date: 1999 Track listing: 01. Pistolero (Man With No Name Rmx) 02. Pistolero (Fluke Hang Em High Rmx) 03. Pistolero (Headrillaz Sandinista Rmx) Review: Once in a while I wonder if psytrance can evolve so much more. What will happen next? Has everything been done before? NO! It´s still room for experimentation and inovation! Juno Reactor is a band that improve their very special sound all the time, and when I found this 12" in 1999 my jaw dropped through the floor, down two stairs, and finally it struck ground! I was really impressed and almost stunned. The sound of "Pistolero" is something completely new (or old?) and I think most psytrancelisteners may have some problems with accepting this new sound. Is it really psytrance? I don´t really know and I don´t really care either. When I put the needle to this record I get teleported into the movie "Desperado" (with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek). It´s dust and guns, warm beer and sweaty mexicans everywhere :-D This 12" contains three remixes: "Man With No Name Remix" (10/10), "Fluke 'Hang 'em High' Remix" (7/10) and "Headrillaz 'Sandinista' Remix" (5/10). To be honest, the only remix that can be labeled as being some sort of psytrance is the MWNN-Remix but that one is really mindblowing. I think that the acoustic mexican guitar flavours this track beyond what any "normal" psytrance synthsound can do. Normally when we talk about guitars in Psytrance we mean som angry ones just on top of everyting else, not this kind of melodic soloinstrument. Some may find this track oozing with cheese but I think it´s just awesome and those samples of gunshots are really cool. I truly like the female voice speaking in spanish too, really hot and sexy :-) The Fluke-Remix is slower and the rhythm feels "SKA-ish" and "DUB-y", good but not great. The Headrillaz-Remix is cool jazzy BIG BEAT, not too impressive. I love this record and my girlfriend is crazy about it too. I must also recommend the album "Shango". I think there´s some more remixes available on a CD-maxi, a "Tarantino-Remix"??? Well, you´ll have to find that out yourself :-)
Guest Lurker
Crap. I always thought that tracks 1-2 of Shango were sheer horror and now this... my god, what have they done?
Guest psygroove
As this track is also on the Shangoo Album , you don't need to buy this one, but it is great music anyways. Nothing for the people with the bumbum horizon, but something for all those who like new innovative tunes. Really nice track, Juno Reactor belongs to the few real ARTISTS.... sleepingzombie
and I think most psytrancelisteners may have some problems with accepting this new sound. First time I listened to it I thought : hey, what's that junk ? Then I read the name of the artist on the cd and ... Juno Reactor ? So I gave it a try . Listened to it some times ... ... and still dunno what to think.
