Aether : Wasted Talent 09. Tonal Disruption : Henbane Review: Well, this is my first first review if you see what I mean! And thankfully its a goody to start with! I stumbled across this one by complete accident, and I must say that its a real snake in the grass! I was not expecting anything like this level of twistedness to emerge from my speakers, and I am putting this down as my favourite full on release from this year! The tracks are all pretty rocking, and mental, although production quality is not exactly top notch, but don't let this put you off, the ideas are AWESOME.... Onto the tracks themselves then. Track 1 lets you know what you are in for, a hard dark chunk of psychedelia courtesy of Aether, whom I have never heard of before, and I'm now wondering wether this guy plays live! Seriously distorted rip into your brain over a fat bass, and thuddy kick, just how I like it!!!!!! Track 2 is in fairly much the same vein, more distubing noises and melodies over another overgrown bass monster. A bit groovier than track 1, but very very twisted, and some real nice, almost kinda drum and basses pad noises floating around on top. Track 3 A Bit of a marching anthem!!! Things are pretty dark by now, subtley phased lead melodies and drones and you might like me find that you are not in a very nice place by now .... However, its an interesting place by all accounts, so I'm prepared to venture onto track 4.... This is by process, the only artist I have previously heard of before. And its a croaker! Another marching anthem, this time harder, with a really really nice kick drum. Very nice sample at the beggining, and it just keeps on building and building relentlessly, until the final twisted sounds are released on you!!!!! Track 5 - fairly weak, not much to grab my ear hear. Track 6 - WTF!!!! OK - things are getting seriously WEIRD now. The easiest way to describe this and the next tracks are they are like the gathering only less polished, more underground, twisted innovative nasty and plain outlandish! Track 8 - Aether slows things down a bit with wasted talent. The mood is still fairly ominous, and acid techno influences are apparent. Not as hard as the stuff so far, but still it had me confused and cowering. The last track is track 9. Well. I wasn't expecting morning trance but hear it is ....sort of..... like everything else on this CD its WEIRD and twisted, very acidic, and has got a lovely floaty melody near the end. In conclusion. This is damn good. I can whole heartedly recommend this to anyone, a 'properly' psychedelic CD, in that old school lovers will get a real kick out of this, but there is plenty to analyse and get into on repeated listens, and lots of layers. It is not particularly accessable, and you should persevere!! Its worth it, however, its not for the fluffy or non twisted, its pure madness on a CD and I can't wait for the next Elektrik Orgasm release!!!!!!! 8.5/
freak51
This one was a surprise for me. Serious attempt at multiple layers of trance that all works together in the the old-school UK spirit, yet it doesn't feel like a knockoff. Carefully constructed sonic unsanity. 8/10 from me.
