Anoebis
V/A - Psychedelic Vibes 1 Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Vibes 1 Label: Phonokol Date: 1996 Track listing: 01. 10'31" Gene Joke : Magic Carpet 02. 07'51" Synchro : Babes On Broomsticks 03. 09'23" Undercover : Mission 1 04. 10'11" Blue Planet Corporation : Antidote (Under The Roof Rmx) 05. 07'45" X-Dream : Psychoactivity 06. 06'37" Z to A : Next Stop Oblivion (Rmx) 07. 08'09" Pollinator : Clone 3 08. 08'05" Gene Joke : Aphrodite 09. 07'34" Gene Joke : Brain Drain Review: I don't like this compilation very much... You have some good songs on it (4,5&7) but the other songs are rather anonymous!! For the peoples who don't know Pollinator... Well, Pollinator is the same group as X-Dream, so it's made by Rough And Rush!! And you can hear that!! ))) I like song 5 also very much... It's soooo psychedelic... And it builds and builds till the end... About all the songs of Gene Joke, well... I'm glad I haven't heard anything of them anymore... Guest havoc[at]tesla.rcub.bg.ac[dot]yu
This is one of THE greatest compilations I have ever heard ! THE CLASSIC ! Phonokol made no mistake with their choice - Gene Joke's stuff is ABSOLUTELY fantastic - especially if You like the "morning" melodic style and not the newest "peep-squeak-zapp" "darkness"...Uplifting melodies and the TRUE psychedelia - these tracks will take You where it all began and will CERTAINLY inspire some GREAT feelings ! I can't say I like Synchro's track - too boring and kind of simple. Mission 1's "Undercover" is another "old-school" true psychedelia and Blue Planet Corp. "Antidote" is ABSOLUTELY GREAT - such a rich sound - SOO TRANCY and PSYCHEDELIC. The next great track is Z to A's "Next Stop Oblivion (Rmx)" - simplistic but SOO TRANCY... My opinion : BUY THIS ONE NOW ! And enjoy my favourites -Gene Joke's FANTASTIC stuff ! Bomz !
Guest jussi.ollikainen[at]pp.inet[dot]
This is quite a nice compilation. After some listening I started liking Gene Joke even if it's so awfully melodic. I don't mean I don't like melodic stuff, I actually like it, but this is way too shallow and simple for my taste. So, the last two tracks by Gene Joke are average songs, but Magic Carpet remains still quite annoying. Synchro... Well, they have developed quite an original style, a bit childish one if I may say so. It's not a bad style, I like the originality, but, again, a bit too simple one for me. Synchro's later songs are better. The first two tracks are the worst two tracks of this comp., but the rest is good or average. I like Antidote very much, it combines BPC's groovy bassline with Pleiadians - I.F.O. style psytrance. So, if you have spare money, this comp. is not so bad choice, although there are four weaker tracks.
Trance2MoveU
Artist: Various Title: Psychedelic Vibes Label: Trust In Trance Records Date: 1996 1. Magic carpet - GENE JOKE 2. Babes on broomsticks - SYNCHRO 3. Mission 1 - UNDERCOVER 4. Antidote - BLUE PLANET CORPORATION 5. Psychoaktivity - X DREAM 6. Next stop oblivion (rmx) - Z TO A 7. Clone III - POLLINATOR8. Aphrodite - GENE JOKE 9. Brain drain - GENE JOKE "You're witnessing a rather remarkable phenomenon." You sure are. Check out my magic as I bring this long dead b*tch back to life. Here is an album from the golden age of goa compiled by Astral Projection. Remember them? Before they were a punchline they used to make some groundbreaking music. This was one of the first goa albums I heard and for a kid from New Jersey this stuff seemed strange and appealing. And like a sucker if you make a sequel I'm gonna check it out. Magic Carpet- I'll have what he's having... No clue who this is, but it could very well be the most...what's the word I'm looking for here...ethnic track ever. It just sounds like it comes from far away exotic locale. Pretty good, it's fast then slow, then fast again. Babes on Broomsticks- If track quality is directly proportional to attractive women on broomsticks then, well... Mission I- Our favorite Dane Kristian Andersen (not that one) the mind behind projects like Elysium, Sheyba, and Kailash to name a few joins forces with Mr. Infinity Project to make this odd bit of business. Bubbling sounds rising an falling and reverberating drops of whatever floats your boat amidst hollow kicks and grumbling goa riffs. Entertaining. Antidote (Pleiadians Under the Roof Mix)- You know your top dog when you can take an absolute classic remix it and make it better. This is the class of the compilation as far as I'm concerned. Twisting and twirling leads that leave you so high up in the clouds you might never come down. Psychoactivity- Masters X-Dream roll out a deliciously bubbly and hypnotic track that seems to go as far as the unreachable horizon. Love this psychedelic motherf*cker. Next Stop Oblivion- I would swear these are the lost Posh Spice tapes depicting her rather tumultuous time with the band, including massive breast envy on her part whenever Geri Hallowell pranced around on stage in that form fitting Union Jack. Which would explain the purchase of her comically fake jugs. Good God I'd motorboat the sh*t out of her. Look at her...hardly any room at that podium for poor Posh thanks to Geri's massive flapjacks. That's what happens when you cram yourself into your little sister's clothes I guess. This track is on many compilations, but I'm not sure why. It has elements of some really good goa, but this mix has way too much talky talky on it as well as stops and starts. Usually skip it. Clone III- This is a project of the X-Dream boys that sounds just like X-Dream. Dark and atmospheric it travels the progressive goa route. Liked it and would've liked it more if there was more evolution. Aphrodite- Gene Joke is back with another very Israeli sounding goa track. And I don't have a problem with that. The melodies are fast and furious with a good balance between top and bottom ends. It gets a little off track at the end maybe even straying into crazy Nitzho territory. Don't know why Joske is such a hater. Brain Drain- Again with these guys? Are they Astral's dirty secret boy toys? There's usually a lot of dick sucking involved when you get three tracks on a compilation. Have to hand it to them though, all three haven't been pretty good. This one is more "trancey" than the others with the requisite tempo changes. I thought this was pretty good. Not the greatest of course, but several tracks that I'm sure you guys have already stand out. The Pleiadians remix and X-Dream are the class of the album as you would expect, but unlike Joske I thought that Gene Joke gave a very respectable effort. I mean, they should they had three f*cking cracks at it. Pretty sure if you gave me three tries I could mumble something that might resemble Chinese.
