Guest squidbyte
pffft the cover art and the labels on the vinyl are really cool and interesting.. i've had a better listen to this now and i like it more than the first bunch of times i heard it... but some tracks still lack something. analogue laughing machine starts out with some awesome grooves but sorta fails to bloom.. u-turn has some extremely beautiful sounds but they're so sparsely used that the song sounds empty.. but i definatly like the title track, its a really excellent piece of music that messes around with your brain, brings in the circus theme, then gets down to business!! note: good speakers are required for this bassy beast. Guest Munky Business Corperation 2001
Children of Paradise beware, Sandman is not sleepy anymore and has waked up now as Green House Effect and Hommega is now officially declared as a CLUB label. Just been listening to GLOBAL WARNING from GHE and after that I had to play Psychotoons to believe it. And what a waste of talent it is. 9/10 for Sandman's last stand (just listen to U-turn and u will understand). The Sandman is dead, long live the Sandman...and drive careful in that Mercedes, Izik Levy.
Guest Phaeton
very challenging album, at times very strange/weird structures, hard to follow.. but if you've been getting used to it you'll recognize that this is very intelligent, and trippy music at times.. the production is good, yet not perfect imho.. for me, favourite tracks are: cyber zoo, attack of the killer virus, analogue laughing machine and loop in control 8/
Guest Goa Spirit
Izik Levy is one of the masters of goa trance.. and i am at the moment discovering all the masters of the scene.. this album makes me fly... full on is a definite description.. sandman makes music that seems to have that extra gear in it.. just like a ferrari... a definite mind blower here... amazing textures created by sound.. while listening to it recently i was observing how the sounds seem to be coming from all over the place, unlike most music today which is too bass oriented and lacks the other stuff... a definite learning experience for me... Guest rx7style
This album is absolutely wonderful. Very unique, inspired sounds... deep and powerful. A dark and strange psychedelic sound, which is very refreshing and interesting to listen to. Sometimes I just sit back and marvel at the wonderfully creative and musical melodies everywhere in this album! Buy this album! These guys are great!! Guest rx7style
I really need to do an update on this album. After listening to it a few more times, I'm beside myself with admiration. This has to be the most intelligent music I've heard in a long time. Every bar is different in every track, and you'd be hard pressed to keep track of how many samples/tones/effect/etc... go by in a track. Fantastic melodies - dark, twisted, even scary when you least expect them. All tracks here are amazing -- they are each unique, and the Sandman sound is completely different from anything else I've ever heard. The sound "placement" is fantastic, with headphones this album whirls around your head, and penetrates your lobes. Probably the MOST psychedelic album I've ever heard, and I eagerly await their next release [please please please!!!]. Best track IMHO is Cyber Zoo which blows my mind every time I listen to it. 10/
Jon Cocco
Having had more time to listen to this, it is a fact that this CD was aimed directly for the dance floor. The song, Analog Laughing Machine is awesome I really prefer WitchCraft. This CD certainly seems to be the one that you'll hear at a party, but it is nowhere near as deep, dark, EVIL, and twised as his last album. Still it's a good CD. =)
Guest daniel[at]icpnet[dot]pl
In my opinion this CD is at least three times worse as Sandman's previous production - "Witchcraft". "Psycho Toons" almost absolutely lacks good psychodelic sound. It's just not in my taste. Nevertheless tracks are still quite nice and my favourite: Track 5. (5/10)

Time_Trap
track 4 , Psycho toons is my favourite, nice album even swinging in the hillarious side now and then, give it a listen. 7.5/
NT
Nice album, but not as good as witchcraft... the 2nd track (loop in control) is my favourite.. It still contains the most crazy and best bassline ever.. and i'm not kidding! I'm too lazy to write a proper review for this album. But it's enjoyable, though not as dark/original as most of Sandman's work... get Witchcraft first and if you want more, check this one out.. oh, one big problem with this album, that it's kind of minimal... Jon Cocco
SANDMAN - PSYCHO TOONS 2000 01. 08'38" U Turn ... B- 02. 09'25" Loop In Control ... B+ 03. 06'12" The Attack Of The Killer Virus ... C+ 04. 07'26" Psycho Toons ... B 05. 08'45" Cyber Zoo ... B- 06. 07'59" Analog Laughing Machine ... B 07. 08'40" Layla ... B 08. 08'01" Toys R Us ... B- After years passed I decided to dig this one up from the collection. Initially, back in 2000, there was one song that really stood out to me, that being "Analog Laughing Machine," but strange enough, perspectives can drastically change over time. I really like track 2 and find it one of, if not THE best song here. It's a really good song and several others are very cool also. I always favored Sandmans debut album Witchcraft over Psycho Toons and I still do. Witchcraft I felt had better, more catchy and developed melodies and sounds. It was significantly darker than this follow-up which is dark but not nearly as... Witchcraft had great melodies and imaginative song designs... the intros, samples, and atmosphere really crowned it as one of the best dark goatrance albums ever. Psycho Toons has generally less melodies, soundscapes, and atmosphere than Witchcraft. It's more psytrance, not goatrance in that there are more strange sounds around the beat than melodies at more times than not. There are some good melodies and moments on this follow-up too. Track 4 fits the Psycho Toons theme most with it's distorted, crazy cartoon voice/sound bits. It's definitey original and unexpected in a pretty good way. My gripe with this album is that some songs aren't nearly as catchy and interesting as others on the same album. I realize not every song can be great but this artist did such great work on Witchcraft. Greatness appears to not be nearly as often on this album IMO. Nevertheless, it still is Sandman and it's good. There are some great ideas and some very catchy melodies and sounds regardless, (tracks 2, 7). I do feel more imagination and work could have gone into some songs. Tracks 3 and 5 for example I find somewhat boring and unexciting/uneventful. Of course, this wasn't intended to be Witchcraft part 2. Sometimes I'm not satisfied with where the songs go, their direction. Several songs here get repetitive before a cool, fresh sound or melody arrives (tracks 1, 6, 7) to spice things up and add more interest. Other songs (track 2 for starters) seem to remain strong and engaging throughout. Regardless, there are a good amount of changes and ideas throughout overall album and each song sounds different. Psycho Toons is pretty good, occasionally interesting, thoughtful, fun to listen to, and at times great, just nothing superb or classic as a whole. HIGHLIGHTS: 2, 4, 6, 7. There are some nice tunes on track 1 but as with some other tracks ... they fade from memory as soon as the song ends it seems. There are some very interesting catchy moments in track 7, especially with that bell like sound which arrives on top of the beat at around 4:45. That's very cool sounding and reminds me more of Witchcraft's more interesting, involved, layered, (sounds) and unique style. OVERALL SCORE: B- or 8/
