Guest Le Lotus Bleu
Silicon Sound - Pure Analog Artist: Silicon Sound Title: Pure Analog Label: Moon Spirits Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Nexus6 (Rmx) 02. Pure Reality 03. Seismic Charge 04. Analog Device 05. Onida 06. African Daydream 07. Inner Space 08. Memento 09. Mindscape Review: The global musical content of Silicon Sound (Johannes Regnier) is, if you still don't know his work, melodic, cosmic, quite emotionnal and also danceable. Major part of the tracks (3,4,5,7&8 ) have the same construction & the same tones and sounds as Digital Thought for the ones who know it. I mean:you'll encounter lots of morning elements on these tracks during the intros or the breaks. Quite oftenly the melody is at the climax of each tracks hammering played. The melodic sound on beginning of T4 is slightly different than the usual Silicon's ones and get more funky spirit. The remix of nexxus 6 is a big success, more cosmic & morning, indeed more deep & catching. The 2 most chill outed tunes:African Daydream & Mindscape are simply 2 little jewels. Except Nexxus6 remix and the 2 chill ones, for me the more worked & interesting production resides in Pure Reality and results to my ears more original and so more effective. Highlights by order:1,9 in second place:2,6,4 Mark:7,5/
damion
Totally, utterly, jaw-droppinly, flabbergastingly brilliant. But enough about psyreviews --- the album's wicked as well :¬) Silicon Sound is Johannes Reginer, and if you've heard his previous output on Solstice, 3D Vision, Moon Spirits and other labels, you'll know what to expect: fluid, in-your-face psychedelic anthems with bags of quality, character, and style. Nexus 6 Remix is class and in my set for a long time to come, Analog Device I literally can't stop listening to, and the wicked groove of African Daydream is a sheer delight. Full of melodies and runs that'll have the hairs on your arms, back of your neck, and other places you neve knew you had hairs, all standing up. Trust me folks, this is what it's all about. The first truly essential album of 2003. 5/5 www.psyreviews.com
Jalliuz
I saw him play live last week and it was really really really fu*cking GREAT. I just had to buy his new album! I allready loved his tracks on compilations like jetlag but that live set did it to me. The CD is at this moment top of 2003 for me. Good quality and good drive and sounds. Only thing to say is maybe that the tracks sound the same but that is not a bad thing. I will give him 8/
PKS
Silicon Sound is Johannes Regnier. He has really impressed with a few tracks on different compilations lately and as Sonicsurfers together with A.B. Laffitte (dj Pulsate). He has also made music as Walhalla together with C. Michaud. Now he is finally out with his debut album on French Moon Spirits Records. When I first heard Silicon Sound, I was really positive surprised. Very full on, but not noisy and boring like a lot of full on trance these days. This sounded for a change different, and very melodic. Not cheesy melodic, but crazy wonderful melodic. Goa trance was originally recognised by lots of crazy melodies, and I have to admit that I often miss that on parties these days. Then Silicon Sound came up with the full on sound of 2003, but also very melodic! The first track Nexus 6 was first released on the compilation Echoes, released on Moon Spirits Records autumn 2002. Here you get a remix of the track. Not better, not worse, just a great melodic full on morning track. Track 2 goes a bit deeper. Full on rhythms from start to finish. This can`t be played loud enough. It sounds a bit like Talamasca, but in a way cleaner and more varied. After a couple of minutes we get a little break from the rhythms, and we pick up a nice melody before the track shoots us out to full on again. A really wonderful female tribal voice screams one time and it fits really well into the track. That reminds me of Elysium. These full on melodies will really get people go crazy on the out door parties this summer! Track 3 starts off with a floating atmospheric sound. These atmospheric floating parts comes in and out of many Silicon Sound tracks. Very beautiful. This track builds up, and get`s more and more melodic. This is the kind of full on trance music I can`t get tired of, far away from all that GMS sounding copies released these days. Track 4 brings you more full on sound, with some funky melodies in between and voice samples from outer space. It reminds me a lot of Talamasca, but in my opinion better. Track 5 starts off with the atmospheric vibe, rolling clean rhythms together with tribal drums swirling together with the groove. Then we get pushed right into another world of full on melodic trance. This sounds like something I have bin waiting for to come for many years. This is the kind of music I want when I really want to go crazy on the dance floor. This is melodic goa in a modern form! After all the energy in the first five tracks, it would probably be nice with a little rest. And that`s what you get! Track 6 is a beautiful deep down tempo track. You can easily dance to this one, but it is also great for chilling. Atmospheric, melodic, down tempo trance. Track 7 starts slow and floating, but suddenly we are back in the full on territory. Crystal clear sound you will want to play really loud. Johannes really know how to use melodies the right way. Track 8 goes the same way. Crystal clear melodies, pushing rhythms and really psychedelic sounds. The last track on this album is just what we needed. A beautiful chill out track that makes me hope that Johannes will release a chill out album too. This will for sure be one of the best psytrance albums of 2003. Fantastic full on, melodic morning trance that will make people go even crazier than ever before. Recommended for you all!
Guest Acidhive
Indeed.. This is great stuff! From Walhalla to this, that Johannes really has come a long way. Where Walhalla is sometimes more minimalistic/tribal sounding, this is way in the opposite direction with lots of pad sounds, nice melodies, samples from tv series (Star Trek Voyager for example, in track 4) and movies. Johannes really knows how to drive things up and craft everything smoothly together. Great stuff. From track 1 to 5, driving psytrance, then chilling in track 6, track 7,8 again driving psytrance, and track 9 chill out. And it's all cool!! 9/10 here. Buy it now! Lemmiwinks
Oh my God.. just when I thought melodic trance was dead and burried... I listen to The Secret (not Mystery...) of the 13 Crystal Skulls... and now this... could it be that 03 will be the year of melodic goa revival? I sure hope so!!! Heart-warming melodies, oriental voice samples, it's all there, nd what's more, with a post-98 style production!! Need I say this is pure gold? 10/10!!! (in case you didn't notic from my review, this is certainly NOT one for minimal and/ or GMS-style lovers...)
Lemmiwinks
hmm... I was a bit too hasty with my review... after a few more listens this sounds pretty mediocre actually... if you want that oldschool sound, I advise you go with Astrix - Eye to Eye or the new Secret of the 13 skulls compilation. I still find it has it's moments but it definately isn't the masterpiece I thought on the first few listens... ah well, that's what coming out of a minimal/ dark psy trauma that lasted for 2 years does to you 6/
seraph
Hummm, pretty good album....Psychedelic as everything else nowadays, in the same style but with some of their special energy...NEXUS 6 is energetic and very psychedelic club hit...SEISMIC CHARGE is pretty interesting and goes smoothly, ONIDA is stunning psychedelic madness stopmer and MEMENTO is one o9f the vest on album...MINDSCAPE is great ambiental song....8/
SkeletonMan
My initial infatuation with this album declined rapidly. First time I heard Pure Analog I considered it quality full-on psy-trance. For some reason, though, after a few spins it doesn’t move me anymore. Don’t get me wrong. Pure Analog is designed for the floors and as such I’m sure it'll rock. Certainly I will not rule out that this will have me swinging the old bones once or twice around the block. But that’ll be it I’m afraid. It’s not cheese, but it sure aint hard-core either and after two tracks the formula is crafted in concrete. Full-on bassline, some FX, melody, break, and back on track. That’s all fine – I like the formula – but I also need that element of surprise or anger to sweep me off my feet. And that happens rarely on Pure Analog. The comparison with Astrix’ Eye To Eye from 2002 is obvious but might not be fair since I heard Astrix years before Pure Analog. Still, in my mind Eye To Eye has the edge Pure Analog lacks. It’s like, Pure Analog is almost there and has me going but then never quite delivers and once again has me awaiting the next track. Consequently, even if Pure Analog had potential for way more it lands in my pile of “well ...” albums. Damn, I should never have listened to it repeatedly. Sideffect...
the first track is still amazing, when this album was released in 2003 it blew me away... nice floating morning fullon waves combined with a good motivated baseline, 5 years later it has become the mainstream, but I still recognize them as the new melodic pioneers together with rastaliens, space buddha... after the dark ages when only infected and a bit logic bomb etc... gave us some melodies... Sideffect...
4 years later, we meet again Silicon sound - pure analog (2003) This albums stays a perfect fullon experience. They were one of the first to use that formula in a very melodic way. I remember when it was released the album was sold out pretty fast here in Belgium (don't know on the internet) meaning the success was huge. The motivated baseline and long stretched waves made it accessible for psy listeners who tend to love other subgenres. Their strength is a type of revelation experience you get each time they start playing their sound. Many fullon has that already but this is 2003 so it was new back then. The formula is pretty simple but it works and it still does for me. I would highly recommend this as a milestone in the morning fullon evolution...
