Guest Diepeveen Posted January 9, 2002 Posted January 9, 2002 V/A - Pure MDMA 2 Artist: Various Title: Pure MDMA 2 Label: MDMA Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 08'01" Pixel : Black In, Black Out 02. 07'05" GMS And DJ Dede : Whoosh 03. 07'14" Joti Sidhu : X-N-Trick 04. 08'02" Skazi : DMT 05. 07'01" Deedrah : Reload (GMS Rmx) 06. 06'50" Sound Farmers : Pitch Black 07. 08'38" Future Prophecy : In Synch 08. 06'08" Shakta : Funky 09. 08'06" Surreal : Black Rock Cities 10. 10'13" Etnica : Hell's Kitchen Review: Pure MDMA 2 starts out with a new artist called Pixel. I haven't heard anything from him before, but he sure as hell knows how to make some powerfull noise! Very dark scary thing, with no melody at all! Not full on, but not calm either... It reminds me a little of PsySex! Average track Track 2... Typical GMS style... Not much to say here! Reminds me of the GMS vs. Systembusters album (That's a good thing)! For me it works very well, but certanly not for all... - That's the problem with GMS =)Track 3 is a heavy track. The same (very cool ) beat through the hole thing! There is also a spooky melody that sets in from time to time! - A truly floorstomper! Track 4 starts out very monotone, with a kickdrum that goes on and on and on, with a few effects on. After a while some percussion shows up, then a hi-hat, and soon we are on the dancefloor ... This is one of those tracks that never stops building up. After some time a break tunes up, deletes everything but the kickdrum, and we can start all over again. - Nothing really special, but a descent track! We already know track 5, hmmm... i wonder why... Maybe because it's so DAMN GOOD! This track is really one of my all time favourites! Ever since i git the Deedrah "Far And Away" EP, i've had troubles with getting this of my stereo! You can hear the GMS effects all the time, and even if it's not so far away(!) from the original, it still blows! Track 6 is a GMS sideproject with Celli. It starts out really scary, with dark sounds, and then goes over to a quite deep kickdrum with a nice hihat! Even if it's not that fast, it's still very full on, due to that hihat which point out the dancerythm for you, and when the amazing melody comes in, you'll go crazy! Again a very good track! Future Prophecy delivers a track with very nice effects everywhere! There's melodies everywhere, but they are hidden pretty well, and they are very psychedelic... Reminds me of GMS (DUH) But it's a bit more variated. After 5 minuttes this evil track throws a "head-melody" that works very well! And when it ends there is a COOL sample: "So... what you're saying is: This guy is a total wanker?!" The track is very relaxed and dark during the whole playtime, and those laughing children gives me the creeps.... This is propably what i connect to "Evil psy". Track 8 is a (as the name suggests) a very funky tune, with very nice work on the percussion. The catchy acid lines is almost shouting at you to dance like James Brown, so you'd better do so... Or else this track will be pointless =) Track 9 starts out with like when you are searching on a radio or something. Then comes an almost housey 4/4 beat and some nice effects now and then. Again we have one of the "bad" ones as a decent track! Last track is from Etnica and it's propably the best track on the comp. A pretty slow and VERY trippy tune from the mad italians. So oldschool, with Pleiadians-like melodies all over. Some will call this repetitive, but i just see it as a way to enjoy the madness a little longer! All in all a VERY pleasant surprise from MDMA... I did not know they made this kind of music, and i will for sure go look for more music from them! Best tracks: 5,6,7 and 10. And there are NO bad tracks! - 9/10 Quote

Guest --== MiLeS ==-- Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 The Etnica track is so damn fine that Nitrox and Chrome hurt the ears. Furthermore, some convincing newcomers like Pixel and Surreal, the best track from Skazi thus far, a superb Deedrah remix and a couple of other adequate but never superb trax. Nevertheless a consistent, quality filled compil. 8/10 Quote
Guest Qotra 4062 Posted January 10, 2002 Posted January 10, 2002 Etnica Hell's kitchen is so nice, so uplifting! Quote

Guest fillfoll Posted January 11, 2002 Posted January 11, 2002 I like this cd, but it is not in my top of the year. Buy it if you don't have some of the songs, Etnica, GMS and Deedrah. It is pure MDMA sound. 8/10 Quote
Guest lunari[at]goatrance.zzn[dot]com Posted January 12, 2002 Posted January 12, 2002 My opinion About the newer psytrance is positive most of the artists know exactly when to shift their styles . . that is how they become so famous .. lets take Hell's Kitchen for example .. its not like any of Etnica's tracks the last few years, am i right ?? .. Etnica shows perfection .. that's why we admire them . i say this compilation is not to be missed in my collection ! . . Buy it ! Quote

Trance2MoveU Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 "So...what you're saying is this guy is a total whacko!?!" What happened to him? Dunno, was mumbling something about Lois and an open back door. Wanna draw a dick on his face? Try and stop me! *whispers* Isn't MDMA supposed to stimulate you and keep you awake? This did not do those things. Well the first third anyway. Perhaps it didn't accomplish those things 15 years ago when it came out. But this is an example of a compilation that almost puts yo to sleep and then rouses you from said blissful slumber. The first three tracks are on the uneventful side and sound like unst unst music. Kinda minimal without adequate storytelling. There's a Skazi track here that may tell you more than I ever could. GMS also has a presence here, but surprisingly their remix is one of the bright spots. Acidic psychedelic full-on that also manages to have a dreamy quality. Pitch Black from the Sound Farmers (GMS and Earthling) is powerful and bubbly with great use of delay and reverb with of course some samples from the movie. In:Synch from Future Prophecy is dark and metallic with a rumbly quality. Win for me as I've never really liked anything they've put out. Shakta gets funky and do no wrongs Etnica close things out with the lone goa track which is nowhere near their best yet still manages to be respectable. If you're in the mood for dark techno influenced trance you could do worse than this. Surprisingly a good share of the tracks hold up well today. Quote
