It gave us a very differnet view of Flying Rhino and many people saw this as the end. It took a while to grow on me, especially the second cd, the trance mix. The first cd is your standard freestyler mix of dub, chill out and some pretty commercial sounding tracks. I like some of it, my favourite's being track 1, 2,7 and 9. This cd is a whirlwind mix starting with some tribal beats, moving quickly into some very chilled sound and leading to Boom Devil, which sounds to me like something the Chemical Brothers whipped up in their spare time. I must say that of all the Boom Devil tracks, the ones on the first Re:Evolution compilation are the best I've heard. Binah is a bit more dubby, with some nice soft vocals, Tripple Game are a kind of jazzy psychadelic trip hop sound and finally Red Seal, with a nice soft dub song, and the vocals are very cool. All in all a nice mix but out of the the four compilations which I own, I'd say the least favourite of mine when it comes to their freestlye sounds, giving this cd 5.5/10. The trance cd is more on the progressive/housey side. It starts out with a nice little number by Atmos, groovery and funky. It then slowly progresses, kind of just flowing, never really going anywhere, but remains vaguely interesting and is easy to dance to. It never quite goes psychadelic, but hints at this with Bus and Planet B.E.N. A nice listen every once in a while, but out all the Re:Evolution's, this one is probably my least favourite. Second cd gets 6.5/10. And for the whole compilation I'll give 6/10.

Guest fuzzy logic
After repeated listenings,i find the downtempo CD far more rewarding than the trance one, which only gets going from the Bus track onwards.

Guest combeferre
It might just be my cd but does anyone else find that the trance disk has really poor bass throughout the whole thing? (yes I do have the original cd btw) This really spoils it for me, although I quite liked some of the tracks, notably the weird sonkite one and the darshan. The first cd is all pretty standard fare, I agree with the chemical bros comment above and think it could be extended to include the bagman track as well. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on individual taste, for me it's a bad thing =( I don't really like this style so I'm not the best to judge it. Having said that, the Great Leap Forward track is superb. I had expected the Binah track to be decent too(due to the conspicuous appearance of a certain S. Posford in the credits) but was rather disappointed, at one point I found myself wishing that portishead would release a new album so that people would have something new to copy. honestly speed up a portishead drum beat and add a dubby bassline and you'll not be far from the bass and drums in crescent suns. The red seal track sounds pretty much the same as all other red seal tracks, enough said. Overall I was disappointed by this release, I quite liked re:evolution 2 but that was mainly due to the 2nd disk, whereas this release seems to reproduce the 1st and 3rd disks which I wasn't so keen on. Definitely listen before you buy, preferably on a largeish system with good bass because of the aforementioned possible defect in the trance disk. madpup
Much inferior to the number 2 disc, the chill-out is pretty boring, only really like the Red Seal track. The trance disc is OK, kinda monotonous, all songs are very samey and nothing really special. Two tracks standout, the one by Atmos and The BUS song which is a stomper. The rest, no so good. Guest Tchankov I.V.
My personal attitude to this comp is not as discontent as you can see above. Sooth-to-say, I like it. Maybe I am not as experienced in Flying Rhino releases as people above me just to have basis to compare, but when judged independently as far as it gets, this is the decent release with certain flow and some high points. I like an emotional boost which tracks 7-10 on the George Baker's freestyle mix CD-1 induce as well as well-balanced flow CD-2 (James Monroe mix) has to offer with its peaks at Darshan & Bus tracks. Btw, "Lets go!" track is actually not as strong as it gets when properly positioned in this trippy set. I mean those tracks which surround it make it shine better. Just to conclude, this thing grows on me with every single listen and serves best as background. Well, the solid 7/10 this compilation deserves. Tchankov I.V. abasio
The 1st CD is another great freestyle mix from flying rhino. They always impressed me with their freestyle mixes and they were what I looked forward to most on their re:evolution series. I'd always listen to that 1st. This one I think was easily the heaviest of the freestlyes from the re:evolution series. Deeper beats and less chilled but more free and very cool. One of my favourite mixes. The 2nd CD is great driving techno like trance. Right from the get go with atmos' mental luggage it's dark, it's driving, it's very cool. I love it!
