freak51
Spiritjack - Sensisizer Artist: Spiritjack Title: Sensisizer Label: Plusquam Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 06'01" Tropico 02. 05'48" Shivirelu 03. 04'49" Sensisizer 04. 06'36" Oldwave 05. 06'27" Dawn Exotica 06. 07'00" Chaka 07. 07'14" Slow Burning 08. 06'54" Quetzal 09. 05'55" Kin 35 10. 05'37" Shinoviiloha 11. 06'28" Maria Savina Review: The disc starts out with a slow psychedelic dubby track, but with influences from WARP-records-style sounds. Also, I think it's a tweaked Trinidadian steel drum sound that makes the melody. At first I think, 'hmm this is a bit annoying' but then, although nothing changes, suddenly it's just fine. The treatment is to die for. Then from there the vibe slowly morphs into a sort of slowed-down vibe that pulls from Detroit and Germany. If there's any criticism that anyone might make of this disc, it's that it is very similar-sounding throughout. However, it's a very hypnotic, supportive groove and the production is superb. The tempo is just slow enough to grok all the reverberation and echo. Once you've found this vein, why leave? Yet somehow towards the middle it plays with more danceable percussion at about 130 BPM, more minimal-Detroity, before settling back down to the futon - all without betraying the theme. Although I loved it from the first spin, I keep finding I love it more each time. I won't give it 10 because I still marginally prefer Dub Trees and Amaruvision to this. But still worth buying several copies, for yourself and for presents for special friends. 9.5/10.
GaySatanicHippie
I Totally agree Freak 51, this is highly addictive. I listened to it in an endless loop for five hours straight in the car, and it puts you in this very "sensisized" mood, like meditation, you forget whats going on but you still are conscious, and the music is flowing around you even though you barely notice. Perfect to mellow out after a long night or to just relax. I'll go with you Freak 51, 9,5/
Guest Gizmo
I also have to agree, wierd "minimalistic" dub ambient in japaneese style. Free play with fader & morphing from one sound to another. Masterpiece 8,5/
Guest ir0nm0nk3y
Picked this up based on the Plusqunam label and it is delightful. An odd mix of asian ambient dnb with hints calypso and other styles. Relaxes without putting you to sleep. Great for background when you are just hanging out. 8/
Guest opul
I checked this out after reading the reviews here, but have to say that I was rather disappointed. Quite boring indeed and I even gave it a chance on headphones and it worked even less. Don't wanna give it a rating, but I know for a fact that I wouldn't buy it. Maybe it does work for background chill-out and maybe it puts you asleep, but those are not signs for good chill-out IMO.
