DeathPosture
V/A - Signs Of Life Artist: Various Title: Signs Of Life Label: Blue Room Date: 1997 Track listing: 01. 07'58" Turban Bloc : Five Million Years, They Knew 02. 08'18" Juno Reactor : Magnetic (Robert Leiner Dub Mix) 03. 03'30" Sunkings : Man's Tale 04. 06'16" Alien : Chupacabras 05. 10'40" Spectral : Avalon 06. 05'39" Liquid Z : Frozen Sand 07. 04'06" Galaxy : Open Your Heart 08. 07'35" Turban Bloc : As Above So Below 09. 07'36" Saafi Brothers : The Witness 10. 05'16" The Delta : As A Child I Could Walk On The Ceiling (Dub Mix) Review: This is not your ordinary bunch of psytrance. Far from it. This is a collection of very relaxed, ambient'y, chilled, and at times, jazzy tunes from some of the heavyweights in the genre. I have very mixed feeling about this compilation. I have to "be in the mood" to listen to it, or it does more bad than good. But when you're in the mood, this is some dope shit. Just don't expect to hear dance-floor friendly tracks here. This couldn't be more anti-dance-floor! This is for serious, mind-altering, letting-your-mind-fly-away moment in the comfort of your home surrounded by your loves one. This should really be listened to from track 1 to 10, but in smaller dozes I'd recommend tracks 3, 4, 9 And 10 (I never realised before getting this CD that Delta's track is the perfect ambient track, when you take away the voice samples and turn the pace down a notch! Cool!) Also, some really nice artwork on the cover which features a long explanation of cropcircles in the UK. Overall rating 7.8/10! Guest Snow Dog
I agree... however, I have heard Galaxy's "Open Your Heart" on the dancefloor, And it was very effective. Favorites here are Turban Bloc, Juno Reactor, and Spectral... my rating 8/
Guest nepenthe[at]mn.rr[dot]com
Thinking of music in an unconventional way That's how I describe this album. I have owned this cd for years after buying it thinking it would be some "Made-on-Earth" -like music (the Blue Room Released: Made on Earth comp, for those of you who are not familiar with it) What I heard was wildly different than what I imagined it would be, and I didn't listen to it very often. However, just recently I began listening to it again constantly, day-after-day, and I began to absolutely love this cd. Nice subtle melodies, and some just off-the-wall effects and sounds and very different approaches to electronic music. It's a cd that I put into the cd player, press play, and start listening. After a while it blends into the background of whatever I'm doing (usually driving, this is my favorite driving music). And after even more time 20-mins or so, I forget how long I have beel listening. After 30 mins I forget that it's playing at all, but I suddenly realize that nothing is bothering me, and going the speed limit a: doesn't seem so painfull and slow; and b: is a good excuse to give myself more time to listen to the cd. my 2 cents. Guest civ604
I've just came to say how bad this thing is, but after reading Nepenthe's review should give one positive remark - well, he's right saying this may be good background music...Thats it! But not for me, two years have passed since I have it & it still does nothing to me - only some headache and discomfortable feeling. This is rare event when I'm listening to other ambient/chilling music. Let me guess - maybe those everlasting synth lines are a bit overused? And the structure of all the compositions here is too simple - linear and predictable from beginning till the very end. That's maybe why you may forget that smth is playing while you're listening to it - your mind has already created the turn of events ahead and as the CD spins it turns out to be absolutely right - so, lacking nuff information your brain just switches it to the background. Well, More Signs Of Life comp is surely better IMO. This one gets 4/10 from me for a little bit of emotions provided by Turban Bloc's tunes. But it's maybe just my stoneskin. Tchankov I.V.
