Review:

Well, here it is!! I've been searching for this one for

quite a while now. In case you didn't read my review of

Best Of... Compilation, Kode IV was initially an industrial

group for who Goa Gil made some remixes and then one of the

leading members died and Goa Gil was asked (and accepted)

to become an official member of the group. So this is their

first release together with Goa Gil. And how does it sound?

Well, first of all, this is 100% goa. Absolutely no

industrial at all, so this is like a 360° turn in the

musical orientation of the band... unless you consider that

industrial has always been part of goatrance... Tracks 1,

2, 6, 8, 9 are composed exclusively by P. Ziegelmeier (the

remaining member of the group), and the rest are composed

together with "master" Goa Gil. But, since it's from 1994

don't expect any really mindblowing goa, just rather calm

around 120 BPM songs with some tribal sounds, especially

djembés (you can tell Ariane, Goa Gil's girlfriend,

participated at the composing of tracks 3 and 7 he he). I

guess ourdays this is what we call morning trance. Tracks 1

and 6 are ambient, track 8 is kind of an interlude, and

only track 7 (my favourite!) is a little more on the rough

side. Actually, track 7 sounds more like good ol' acid

techno than trance, which brings back a lot of memories to

all those patying in the very early 90's, like me!!! Since

this is from way back in 1994, I guess it sounded pretty

good at the time, compared to stuff like Juno's

Transmissions or Har-Ell's Pagan Moon Child, so I'll give

it a 9/10, especially since IMO this album practically

invented the morning trance style... but it's light years

away from what goa artists did starting from 1996... Be

warned!
