Guest Chaitu/Purple Passion
Cosma - Simplicity Artist: Cosma Title: Simplicity Label: BNE Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Sleep Of Peace 02. Your 911 03. Out Of Range 04. Find Out 05. Simplicity 06. Cosmatic 07. Human Evolution 08. Saffy Smoke A Lot 09. Cusanam Review: The Best Israeli album of the year. Period. Superb sound and production - Avihen has really worked wonders considering he is working with Audio only. And the music ...Ranging from full on to progressive, ambient, clubby, crunchy, and full on melodic stuff with a beautiful ethnic touch. This is the scando - israeli sound at its best, and is guaranteed to rock dancefloors the world over. Just get it!!!
Guest Seb Mullaert
Very nice and variated ... the best album from israel in a long time. Seb
Guest iNFiNiTi500
After Psysex' Hardcore Blastoff another Phat album from Israel. This is gonna raise some eyebrows since its a cross between hypnotic percussion stuff and dark full-on and therefore "Simplicity" is gonna be a major step in the evolution of the currently somewhat lackluster Isratrance scene. If u ever dreamt about an Atmos versus IM album this is probably as good as it gets and moreover it beats the technoshit outta both Overlap and BP Empire. I feel that Cosma can occasionally bite a tad harder in some trax (read more wicked melody changes and subtle breaks) so there is still room for improvement but for a debut album this is amazing fresh and deep stuff. ... 8.5/10 Good Morning Israel... glad that u finally woke up... Guest wouter
Good production, fat sounds...Too bad that almost every track starts very promising, but loose impact by the use of too much and too long breaks. And in most cases what is supposed to be the track's peak sounds almost the same as the first half. I think Cosma needs a little more work on his song structure and get rid of all those pointless breaks that ruin the groove anyway.
Guest OA
NOT The Best Israeli album of the year. Period. Hardcore Blastoff and yes, BP Empire blow this out of the water. Although it is a good album, I dont think its great. I get bored with the tracks as they go. A lot of the trax sound very "danceclub" oriented. The production is great though. The simplicity track sounds very "shpongled" to me. I even hear the same samples i hear from Shpongle songs on it. I dont know if that good or bad. Anyway, While it is a good album, it didnt do anything special for me.
Guest slinker
Awesome...bought solely on some of the recommendations above, and for one minute im not dissapointed! That last track i wish would go on for eternity!!!..ahhh kinda reminds me of atmos a little..very well made and ill sure be looking out for any new releases in the future =^,^= 10/
Basilisk
Saffy Smoke-a-lot is real nice... never really got into the rest quite as much. Definatly influential however.
Guest [Anonymous]
oh my god! I really don't know what to say. This is a masterpiece. It's so beautifull and mystical that you almost feel like you are somewhere else. Lay down. Turn off all the lights around you. Put on the cd. And close your eyes. This record will move you in so many ways. I get goose bumps when I hear music like this. Get this cd now. I promise you won't get dissapointed. 10/
Guest slinker
Cosma needs to be on a pedastal, a unique sounding album and some haunting sounds make this a true trance masterpiece...dont hesitate =^,^= 9.8/
Guest salton[at]goatrance[dot]com
Good Album... But I am sure it was influence a lot by ATMOS. There are parts that COPIED FROM Atmos Tracks - And that a Shame.. Good Sound - yes, but come on listen to Space Cat,Astral Projection,Infected - That's Good Sound... For me the second part is better. Summary : good cd (never excellent) but I think that evrybody started to make party - from nothing spacial. I would say in that this album is: "Atmos For The Poor People" (And I don't think Atmos is so good..) But I dont like to criticize trance maker.. So Inspite of all I wrote I advice to buy this cd if u don't have something better to do... Boom Shankar(And sorry Avichen - that's the true as I see It..) Guest rx7style
Pretty good album, but the first few tracks are actually pretty boring. This sound is what I would describe as "minimal-melodic", where there's a solid beat the whole way through the track [with a few breaks], and some spacey melodious licks layered with others here and there. I've listened to the album many times now, and nothing really stands out in this album, except tracks 8 and 9 -- which are KILLER melodic tracks. Good flow with these tunes, and there's some real intelligent thought been put into these tracks. All-in-all the album is a very nice listen, no tracks are bad, but the only standouts are 8&9. 8/
Cosmonaut
"Simplicity" has a interesting story, quite emotional, involved for arabian vocals crossing the whole album and supply many amazing Moments, tought. Obviously it's not perfect, there are some less strong sides, maybe lack a bit more of "dynamic" [if you get what I mean...] However, looking to Cosma's age and taking the fact this was the first release, certainly I make no mistake if I say that his next work, promise to be even better. Special attention to Track 6 [cosmatic] with 3 truly impressive minutes [3.55-6.55]. A solid 8/10 as Final Sentence PLUR
Guest Seth
Favorite of mine: "Find Out" which IS number 3 NOT number 4 as its written on the playlist up there. Or is my cd wrong ? - hehehe - "Saffy Smoke a Lot" is awesome too !!!!
khogg
Yeah, "Saffy Smoke a Lot" is awesome. There are some samples on Mp3.com (full tracks & partial ones from the album). Based on the samples and the reviews above, I will be buying this one in the future some time.
Mogwai
Very good album and very mature in its sounds and it sounds like Cosma isn't afraid to do something a bit different. Very sparce and more housey than your usual Israeli CD but nice all the same. I'll Just warn that if you don't like lighter-moodier stuff (ie your a big full on or very minimal fan )it may not be for you. I mean it would be well suited to the fans of the Movers and Groovers series than anyone else. Reminds me a bit of Halodium in some of its darker moments (it gets some nice percussive grooves going), Zorba in its crusier moments and some nice Sphongle syle ethnic samples in some of the tracks. Bascially a very nice cross over album but just not enough veriety within each track for listening even though the tracks are quite different from one to the other across the whole album. Very good production also with a a crystal clear sound thoughout. Just listen to it on headphones and you'll hear what i mean. Should do well on the dance floor in the mornings as its definatly sunshine music for to. 8/
Guest FelipeLemosBrasil
THIS ALBUM RULES!! Cosma did a real nice work here, awesome production, all the tracks together becomes a beautiful hystory, a real journey beyond the deep space. Highlights for me: 2,6,7,9... Your 911 is progressive, with some shocking souds, nice bass, and vibe... Cosmatic reminds me Infected Mush, a little bit progressive, but this track have a PERFECT ANGELICAL BASS, and a nice sampler of a woman singing...epic. Cusanam is a fuckin bomb Israeli track, this cd is a BOMB!!! Maybe the best album of 2001...I love Cosma
Guest pantro
One of my favorites... its very well produced, and its very deep... lots of feelings, kind of morning trance, big bass and kick and even that its kind of slow it has those full climax moments...the first part send me to some natural paradise in the moment of the sunrise, very enyojable, gently but energic all the time....second part is kind of the revolution to the new era or even the future, i wonder to be at the night with lots of stroboscopical lights and black plastic shines all over the place... Guest Goa Spirit
Good job... the production is very good, and infact for me the highlight of the album was the crisp clean sound that Cosma makes. I still think they could improve their sound and add more psych to their music,.. tweak the melodies, more uplifting sounds and general otehr stuff would make it more interesting.. I rate this as the 3rd best release from Israel in 2001... but good job nevertheless... hear cosma shiva track on sst, that is also quite nice.. 7/ 10.. peace
Guest gdaniels[at]pcwf[dot]ca
Pure excellence. I spent the entire album completely hypnotized. Pure goosebump material. The clincher for me was when I realized everyone was staring at me soaring to the cosma with my MDplayer on the subway. The only thing wrong with Cosma is THERE ISN'T ANY MORE!! Guest Fluo_Samsara[at]hotmail[dot]com
I never heard nothing so pure and simple, and yet so amazing! This album is a work of art, congratulations Cosma for reaching a new level, a level that takes us to a world beyond our imagination! WWWooooooooooaaaaaahhhhhhh! Guest contusion90[at]hotmail[dot]com
I got this 2 days ago and stayed up hours later than I should have considering my classes the next day. I must have listened to this at least 5 ties in a row before falling into oblivoin. The production is crisp-- the music is haunting, yet uplifting with a beat which moves through all of the tracks without becoming too dancefloor oriented. I look forward greatly to Cosma's next release.
Guest [Anonymous]
as published in march/april issue of upfront magazine: According to the title of track 8, ?saffy smoke a lot?. I would actually go the extra mile here and venture to say that Saffy ain?t the only one that ?smokes a lot? in the Cosma crew. Progressive Trance, I feel, sometimes falls into the trap of being too deep. This is not the case with Cosma?s Simplicity: deep yes, very to be honest; but it has the added edge of a groove that rolls thru? the tracks which has the effect of focusing our attention on the razor sharp precision of the layers, a sharpness that paradoxically, in my experience, is only ever achieved through ?smoking a lot?. freaky bob
