Guest Pit-UFO
Third Flight - Slipstream Artist: Third Flight Title: Slipstream Label: Flying Rhino Date: 1998 Track listing: 01. 09'25" Atmos : Klein Aber Doctor 02. 07'35" Slide : Confusional State 03. 10'49" Stoop And Fidget : Mudless 04. 08'51" Kopfuss Resonator : Holy Water 05. 07'46" Venom : Try It 06. 08'06" Dragon : Freak The Greek 07. 08'47" Bus : Something's Always Out There 08. 06'56" Blue Planet Corporation : Micromega 09. 08'43" OJ Project : Tribal Chord Projection Review: In 1998 psychedelic trance seemed to be fading out. Nothing new or exiting was been released. MWNN and Astral Projection were stuck in their style, the old goa sound was only produced by Hallucinogen and Infected Mushroom was still very underground. So I guess Flying Rhino decided to change their style, to expand their horizons and reach new audiences. So, "while staying true to their heritage they focus on progressive techno with psychedelic and hard house influences" as the booklet mentions. The result: An excellent release "that oozes class" an has really influenced the psychedelic scene and pave the way for artists like Atmos, Bus, Bumbling Loons and indirectly Paps, Yumade, Tarsis, Jupiter 8000... Slipstream opens with a huge track by Atmos, that's destiny to become a classic. Mudless is a really good, with nice bass lines. Micromega has a delightful 303 screaming the whole track :-). Something Always Out sounds like finding god. The rest are really excellent tracks, with great energy and a very special and a distinguish sound. Fly this airline it has great future. 9/

freak51
Interesting comp. There are a few poor tracks and a few very nice ones (from Kopfuss Resonator, Blue Planet Corp). Otherwise, I believe this is one of the earliest records that blatantly retrofits influences from other genres (well, mainly house) into trance. Sometimes it works (track 2) and sometimes it's just boring. Worth the money if you can find it locally (i.e., no postage/customs).

Guest janr[at]adam.com[dot]au
Excellent, every track is good, some excellent. I didn't like it at first, but it's very high quality stuff. It's much more powerful than any house I've ever heard. The sounds, and progression make many tracks quite complex, even though they might sound minimal. One of my favourite CD's, and one I never got sick of.

seraph
Pretty Different release than previous flights...more mellow and soothing but still with some heavy rhythms...KLEINE ABER DOCTOR, HOLY WATER, FREAK THE GREEK ( !!! ), SOMETHING IS ALWAYS OUT THERE AND MICROMEGA are the best on compilation....7.5/
abasio
This for me is the best of the flight series. It was very different from the first two and this was what first got me into the no-melody progressive minimal whatever style. It's a smooth trip through trance with a lot of psy and it's very psychedelic and groovy. It's been nearly 20 years, it's stood the test of time and I still love it. Atmos - Klein aber doctor Slide - Confusional State Stoop & Fidget - Mudless Dragon - Freak the Greek Bus - Something's Always Out There Blue Planet Corporation - Micromega ...are all stand outs. Fantastic rather than just great like the rest.
