Guest Goagabba
V/A - Sola Sonorum Artist: Various Title: Sola Sonorum Label: Spirit Zone Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. Bamboo Forest : Brazil 02. Bio Tonic : Dynamic Bounces 03. Echotek : Somophonic 04. Kuro : Precision 05. GMS : Shrek 06. Saafi Connection : Schizo 07. Space Tribe And Electric Universe : Alkaloid Experiment 08. S-Range : Microship 23 Review: This is the best compil from Spirit Zone, dare I say ever. It's a new turn for SZ, after the last releases. Bamboo Forest start the trip off, with a lovely morning tune. Can't wait to hear the album. Bio Tonic are one of my favourite artists at the mo. The song starts of with a wicked deep kick drum, ala Bio Tonic, kinda reminds me of The 3rd Link. Then comes in this wonderful kinda scratching sound, which sends me mental. Echotek bring us a more progressive approach to this album, and a welcome tune it is. From Israel, with a bang and a boom. KURO, our Japanese hero, is back again, with some tech precision as the title suggests. Big and heavy basslines in here. An excellent song. And finally the Shrek single from GMS is on CD, for us digital junkies. The sample is taken from the DVD version of the movie Shrek, and is a GMS, "the same recipe" type of track, and reminds me a bit of Juice without the Requiem influence. Good for outdoors. Next comes trance new comer, Safi Connection, which has Micha on his own. A bit different to the style of the album, but a very good track indeed. Then the talked about Space Tribe vs Electric Universe, with both their respective styles shining through noticebly. Space Tribe type full on quick beat, Electric type atmospheres, Space Tribe type sample use, Electric type melodies. Done in the classic goa style both are so famous for. Now the last track is the perfect outro to this album, my favourite track and a melodic morning track, able to bring smiles to a dancefloor full of loons. At about 3.00, comes in a great but subtle melody, which builds and peaks through towards the end of the track. Way to go S-Range. Glad to have seen him live at Voov. All in all, a must have compilation of 2002. I'll give a bona fide, 9/10 Bom
Guest Le Lotus Bleu
First, i think honestly that's the best compilation i've heard from Spirit Zone. Bamboo's track got warm tones, little samba influenced rythmic, nice one. Biotonic delivers their personnal psytrance style, the title "Dynamic Bounces" says it all, very effective one. After the french dudes comes a new israelian artist Echotek in minimal style (not my favorite here). Then it's the come-back of K.U.R.O, Precision is this kind of new psytrance that you can hear nowadays as Biotonic. I mean a bit more darkfull, groovy and rythmic worked. GMS with some of their madness inside Shrek and the grinding door gimmick ,realize an energic stuff. Saafi Conection (here only Mishel Biton) with Schizo is one proof of the vitality and quality of the israelian newcomers trance artists. A second brillant collaboration between the duo stars of Spirit Zone, in my mind largely better than The Acid Test even if it's sounding different but always powerfull, energic & melodic. Last but not least, the most morning stuff comes from S-Range , this track is co-written with Flavia Campos. You can listen more subtilies & muffled harmonies. Overall a high level quality production with some new comers, except Shrek all the tracks are unreleased on CD. You can buy it closed eyes. mark:8/
Guest Dr Cheroot
great stuff here from spirit zone. great sounding tracks by all the big names. except for mebbe GMS, it's time they grow up and use some better samples. Great release for both DJs and home-listening. 8/
