Saiko-Pod : Groove Moderator 07. Manmademan : Heavens High 08. Baramundi : Pot Mink Review: This is sexy! The sound of the summer! Music of the future! Flying Rhino delivers a stunning compilation filled with some of best 'uplifting, sexy, funky, pumping melodic euphoric music'. The Cass & Slide + Correllian tracks are known from FR's "Re-Evolution 2" compilation from '99 but their energy remain just as fresh as back then, and combined with the rest of the music on this compilation it just 'leaves you breathless and sweating and panting for more' - as LV of Wax Mag puts it. And I totally agree with him. This is a unique collection of cool music and as so there are no bad tracks here. From the conga-based melodic masterpiece of Kinetico to the fantastic, funky Jaïa track. Best track is Groove Operator by Saiko-Pod, but as I said, all tracks are fantastic. I don't really like mixed CD's, so I'll leave it to someone else to review CD2. Anyway, if you're into sexy, progressive 'beach house' trance, you need to get this. Isra-addicts and minimalists look elsewhere. Gets a 8,5/10 - and look very much forward to the weekend! ;o)
Guest TRISTAN
Wow. That IS the most decent review I heard in a long time. Very objective. Nice Makes me wanna get it. I actually got it, heh. I liked the CD very much, I'd give it an 8. Favs: Manmademan, Jaia. Saiko Pod and Corellian (ofcourse!).
Guest phase418[at]hotmail[dot]com
I bought this, and I don't like it as much as the above reviewers. It sounds quite commercial to me, repetitive and kind of simple trance....basic percussion, and only one or two melodies up front...not deeply layered. I'm not against simpler trance, for instance I enjoyed the MOVERS&GROOVERS on TIP very much but this is not nearly as compelling. It sounds like the kind of stuff that house/club-trance DJ John Digweed would spin. It's not bad, but it doesn't dig deep into my mind or energize my body either. It's a good soundtrack for having sex with girls who aren't into psytrance. very accessable! 6/
Guest skincom[at]mullum[dot]com[dot]au
Well phase418 its good to know what music you need to make love to girls. Whats accessable the music? or the girls? Ha ha only joking. Love and Light Ric :-)
Guest orbitxo[at]aol[dot]com
CD2:mixed by james monro I like the mixed cd cause there arent any 1sec pauses...and these tracks scream to be mixed as they are sexy tech trance dance grooves, i look foward for these kind of new 2xcd format from FR. one can listen to both interpretations, from the artist and a deejay! -cheers! Guest MG
It sounded like a global underground CD to me, wasn't impressed at all.
Guest [Anonymous]
yeah, it does sound like a Global Underground, paul okenfold mix or something. I like my trance bouncing and uplifting - but this is a dissapointment. it's pretty lame. shallow-sounding club trance.
Basilisk
Jaia and Saiko-Pod rock out with the emerging style of progressive psytrance... this early effort was widely panned by critics and listeners alike, especially for the rather tasteless cover, but it did prove to be a sign of things going forward. GEoMaNTiK
didn't mind this cd at all - have only heard cd1 so far, no doubt commercialised but if your ears are open to all styles this one has some smooth and sexy tracks... 8/10 for cd1
Guest Acidhive
One of the best comps of the year im my humble opinion. The tracks on this one are just sooo smooth..!! Listen to the Jaia track for instance, or that really super great groove of Saiko-Pod's Groove Moderator (hence the name) Just perfect night time music, kinda relaxing in places and filled with a lot of groove. The mixed cd is also very good, nice to listen to, you hardly notice the mixing... Great. I'll give this one 9/10 !! Make sure you get it. It proves that the Rhinos haven't lost it! oh yeah, cover's great too... :-) Thanks for trying something a little different guys! (maybe it's a bit too kinky, but hell, Goa is Underground music ofcourse)
Guest Pied Piper Paul
This is a very BIG signal that flying rhino has at last made a super crap CD. How dare they ask such heroes such as Jaia and Saikopod to make fucking house music-what a complete load of rubbish. This is house music for hairdressers. nuff said. Guest phase418[at]hotmail[dot]com
I really got sick of this one. I tried to trade my original copy away (bought it cause of the new Jaia track) at a festival...but no one wanted it cause of the awful cover. I ended up literally throwing it in the trash. Don't even consider buying it..
Guest globalsteez
Superb and very classy album from the rhinos in the sky. Forward thinking and fully developed sound without any crap fillers. Not the most psychedelic of releases but who cares when it sounds this good. Quality stuff. 10/
Guest Goa Spirit
Well this is flying rhino's best release in a long time.. nice chilled music in the movers & groovers style// it didn't blow my mind, but it works at a certain time.. this music is perfect to set up some full on tracks.. the music is not very charged here, and that is probably why some people reffered to it as similar to house. its not great, but atleast flying rhino has come out with something decent. 6/
Guest pomplemousse
yep these tracks are all about atmosphere, for me this is the soundtrack to sitting on the beach at sunset with a margarita in one hand and girl/boy (select as appropriate) in the other...whether this is a good or a bad thing is up to you, but personally I like it, I can't listen to mind-bending psychedelia or pumping minimal sounds all the time and most ambient I just find boring...is this ambient music for people who don't like ambient music? well for me it is anyway. didn't like the cover much though... Guest Kindgok
Awful cover? Okay, maybe the Flying Rhino Logo shaved into that woman's pubic hair is a bit hokey, but I'd rather look at that than 80% of other psy-related releases. Our scene is host to some of the worst atrocities in graphic design EVER. -kingdok
Guest atomicalmar
I just agree with you paul...
seraph
Nothing that special....Flying Rhino started to loose themselves somewhere...From that spacey, psychedelic, melodic goa and psy trance they have been releasing in the beginning they evolved into this as everyone said sexy, beachy trance music....INCREDIBLE !!! Instead of minimal they release this kind of trance these days and that's a shame...for them I mean...Compilation is not THAT bad, I just don't like the style...I don't get why people put 2 discs of the same music on and on...especially with not such an interesting music...songs that are worth some attention are HEAVENS HIGH, SINCERITY,DIABLO and BE THERE...Rest is way to average....6/
Guest lowcircle[at]....[dot]
I like only jaia, hopefiend, an saikopod ones. the others are boring for me.
