Anoebis
V/A - Sonic Boom Artist: Various Title: Sonic Boom Label: BooM! Date: 1997 Track listing: 01. 06'37" Battle Of The Future Buddhas : Filoti 02. 07'54" Cosmoon : Pandora's Box 03. 06'47" Dogma : Delta Drave 04. 07'47" Synchro : Promises 05. 06'39" Cosmoon : Curiosity Killed The Cat 06. 08'38" Dr Jekyl : Narcissus Intoxicus 07. 08'02" Trinity : Praying Hands 08. 08'16" Celtic : Makewaver 09. 07'35" Yopo : Tribute To Tim Leary Review: The First CD of Boom! Records, and at that time they didn't know exactly what they wanted I guess... There are some very good songs on it, but also some rather boring songs... The CD starts with the Battle Buddha's, and that song is Awesome, but we don't expect antyhing else of them, because they're really great!! Song 2,4&7 are pretty good!! Unfortunately song 3,5&6 are NOT good!! That Dr Jekyl is even BAD!! Way too boring!! Luckely this CD ends with two Very good songs (nr 8 is GREAT)!! I guess I don't have to say those songs are all pretty hard (like usual on Boom!-Cd's!!) Mostly about 148 bpm, but celtic even 154 bpm!! qa2pir
Is this just very harsh and demented or is it melodic and beautiful to some extent?
Trance2MoveU
Is this just very harsh and demented or is it melodic and beautiful to some extent? Actually more from column A if we're keeping score. The debut release of Boom! Records in the sweet spot that was 1997 and it's not the Pleiadians/Etnica type of goa trance. When it's not goa that instantly reaches out with melody and grabs me, I find I have to give it numerous listens to let the psychedelia wash over me in an effort to "get it." I suppose parts of it could be considered harsh (Curiosity Killed the Cat and yes I wanted to strangle that motherf*cker). While the artists that make the melodic stuff are pilots safely dropping their bombs from the safety of the skies, these guys are the grunts fighting the ground war. And they're losing. Badly. To these ears in 2015 it sounds as if it could've been so much more. Some of the tracks seemed to go on forever (Narcissus Intoxicus) like that last hour and a half of a high school day. F*ck, did anyone else swear the minute hand moved backwards? Some tracks had that twirling something (Praying Hands), and I feel it could really be a slayer with a good re-mastering. I wasn't as floored by the last two tracks as Joske obviously was, but they weren't bad. I would say this is a worthwhile addition to the goa collection if you can find it cheaply. And thankfully I did.
