Review:

New album from Space Safari -- first impression is that it's a solid release,

keeping with the melodic/progressive trance style that Space Safari has always

created. First track Space Ship is slower and more ambient, lots of reverb

with a female voice saying "Space Ship" here and there, and some nice synth

melodies. Nice solid bassline with fat beats: good intro to the album. GHS

starts off with some cool atmospheric effects, then immediately into a bouncy

beat with some synthesized bass-guitar plucks, and again some beautiful

melodies. Slow building track with lots of stereo separation effects that make

the sound whirl around your head. There's also some cool drum effects in this

track that stand out, but other than that this track doesn't go very far --

just nice to listen to. My second impression is that this album relaxes the

listener, and hypnotizes them slowly but surely. I like it! Smoke has more

guitar plucks in it, with focus on drums/percussion, very funky. Again, very

relaxing with deep, slower beats. Stomper is a bit faster, with bouncy beats,

an octave jump bassline, but I lost interest in this track by the time it got

to the synthesized animal sounds. Even at the end of this track, it still

sounded like it was building up! I don't like Soul at all, there's a nasty

sample of a guy saying "Soul, get on sound..." over and over again. I just

don't like the sample, and there aren't many layers in this track so it seems

too simple. Sunday Nights starts off kind of house-y sounding, with some funky

synths, builds the layers slow, then a female sample saying "She was November"

keeps repeating... I don't like it -- the bassline stays exactly the same for

the whole track which easily makes this track the least productive of the

album. Dip Down is funky, with more voice samples again, but it's done well --

nice effects, smooth and silky transitions. Very relaxing. The last track,

Esther Alien, is probably one of the best on this album, as it varies all the

way through. Very melodic ambient, with some nice electric-piano playing some

FUNKY tunes! Very good! I like this album... very down-tempo, relaxing and

enjoyable. Some tracks are a little boring, but it's very musical -- I'm a

sucker for nice melodies. 7.5/10

rx7style review pretty much hits the point. I would even say 9,5/10 because

Space Safari already got my ass moving several time on the dancefloor with

their new tracks. A main advantage of this album is, that it sound different

than other nowaday releases. BUT: If you only like it the hard and minimal way

this might not be your cup of tea. People who like to try new stuff, enjoy

melodies and a fluffy groove once in a while go for it :-)
