Guest mr_shih[at]yahoo[dot]com
i'd been meaning to write a review of this cd for a long time, but i was never in the mood to give the it a good, attentive listen when i had free time. but now i am, so here goes. funky, quirky, clever, playful. goofy psychedelic sounds and upbeat percussion maintain a pleasant mood and help you ride the groove. track 1 starts out nicely with a moody, ambientish intro and switches nicely into a punchy, rough, staccato rhythm with a little attitude. track 2 mixes lively rhythmics with a distorted perky melody and weird, eerie psy sounds. track 3 features musical sounds that remind me of a campy sci-fi tv show - early star trek or something. this song definitely creates an atmosphere...when i listen to it, it seems like i'm in an alien disco on acid in a marvin the martian cartoon. track 4 brings the funk...a fat, groovy bassline accompanies cartoon and animal sound effects and a cute, peppy melody. track five is spooky, hollow and claustrophobic, but in a playful sort of way. it's just crazy, basically. then the driving, pulsing sixth track storms in. i guess that's why they call it pulse train, huh? sounds like spirallianz lite, but of course infected with reefer decree's cartoony madness. track 7 starts out a little slow but soon turns mesmerising, with a quirky distorted melody in a minor key and well-timed sound effects layered over solid bass. and finally we have time drop, an apt chill-out piece. a soft, twinkling melody plays in the background over the main, slower one. relaxing indeed. well in case you couldn't tell, i like this album. i recommend it to anyone (except grumpy nostalgic goa heads) and if you head over to chaosexistence.com they have some CD copies available for twelve bucks. it's a shame some people don't just try to enjoy music instead of going through their checklist and making sure it meets all their expectations. 7/10, get it and enjoy. Guest djpsylentknight[at]hotmail[dot]c
I just started listing to this album, and at first I didn't know what to expect going from all the reviews here. I'm into a lot of night music and mostly the dark and full-on stuff. Any way I shoved the CD in to the player and I was pleasently suprised!!! Some very bouncey outdoor bush doof in the forest style music!! Really top stuff. This is not minimal at all in my book. Good bass and grooves that would go down very well either at an outddor party or at home. All tracks are very good!!! My favourite though I think at the moment is Track 2 - Percaution. Very nice. If you've been to a true bush doof and love the outdoor party scene then I believe you should like this album a lot. Very nice bouncy psychedelic outdoor sounds to make you move and bop you head and arms around. Lot's of stomping around the dance floor and your livingroom as well. Guest kadafi
Open your ears psy-people, then you will see! This album is so good! For me it's like the proof that minimal can be sooooo good... It brings you in atmospheres that differ completely from what goa-trance brings you in, I can't deny that... Buy this and put it on loud, when you're still sober; IT WORKS LIKE E's!!! favorites: 4!,1!,3(has sth. Hux-Fluxy),

It´s one of the BEST album this year, believe me.... LOVE Kimeta
Guest mindgames_hq[at]hotmail[dot]com
i absolutely adore this album! So playful and creative. If you're thinking of buying this album, please ignore all the fluoro-fascist ignorant gimps and their fundamentalist diatribes above. This music is not minimal at all! It has everything--great percussion, wonderful strange noises, driving basslines, the occasional melody thrown in there. This is maximal trance. To me GMS and Absolum are what I would call minimal; i.e., minimal ideas and minimal progression. same-old, same-old. Or we really want to be precise and label thiings "minimal", paste is what i would call minimal psy-techno. but this? hell no! The production level is also very high. such big basses that make you bounce around like a loon. open your minds, drop your expectations, take that wax out of your ears, and turn up the volume. Reefer Decree ROCKS!!
Guest AMP
First there are minimal and minimal, certainly this is not all minimal and anyone with a little knowledge in music wouldnt crucify this album on the first glance, just for the style of for the name. The actually happen to produce a really elaborate sound, with lods of psy sounds crossing your ears if you are open to them. Try listening it with your headphones and you will see. Anyone, of course this is not Astral Projection or Infected Mushroom style, not even close, this is a different one, but that does not mean it is worse, but different, and thats the amazing thing of trance, you dont need to be limited to one style only, enjoy the good work out there, listen with your ears, and not with other parts of your body. This is as far from Techno as the rest of trance, I dont know why people still make this useless comparisons, since they add nothing to anything. Trance as a lot of influences from techno, it is normal, but that doesnt mean it is techno or even close. Enjoy life, dont be so critical. Serve. Love. Give. Meditate. Purify. Realize. Guest Lifeform
I dont like minimal that much... But this album rocks! Maybe my dislike for minimal will parish after listening to this as a whole?
Guest bobafet
anybody who made it to the chichime party on 7th december in london for the live reefer decree set will realise how incredible these guys are. they blew the roof off. i couldn't put it in the minimalist or psy category. they're on their own, way ahead of the rest. this is real trance for real trance lovers. step aside the rest cos this shits as good as it gets. nice one guys! maia
Hey this is cool. It's kind of spacy and groovy. And I don't ususally listen to minimal trance. But I am kind of worried anyway...I think that the whole trance scene has become darker and harsher in some ways, there are a lot of people coming to the parties that have no idea about the values that this community of trance lovers was founded on. I'm waiting for someone to bring the light back in....
maia
Yeah I agree. This is just really gooood.
Guest purplefractaloctopus[at]hotmail[
well im pretty zooted, so its like fading in and out of my dreamstates, certain noises are from heaven, funky and dancing naked in the house. other times the damn hihat doesnt fluctuate and sometimes it reminds me to much of everything else. but its got some chillom rockers. aye, ella fitzgerald is psychedelic if youre on 2ct7, and so is minimal just like full on or what? can someone explain why everyone writes stupid shit instead of creative experiential reviews. gawd. Guest el es dee
Very Great album... very psychedellic but i would consider this to be more "stonerdellic". it just has a stoned kinda sound to it. 9/

Guest aquamental[at]hotmail[dot]com
I agree with Maïa... there's too little light in the both psytrance and progressive house scene nowadays. The music can be wonderful, brilliant (like Midi Miliz - Restore my Soul or John Creamer & Stephane K - I love you), but it lacks smile, lightness, relaxation, the feeling that you can melt into music. It keeps you very tense...you can feel it in your body when you're listening. And when the song is over you feel relieved, amazed, even happy, but not during the song. It's so much harder to create light atmosphere without sounding stupid or cheesy just as in the movies the hardest thing to do is comedy...so many dark, claustrophobic, even sad films are made that are excellent, that affect you greatly, but how many wonderful comedies you remember that are not silly and rely on cheap humor... We are all spiritual beings of light... let's not fall into the shadows... Love and compassion to everybody, especially to Reefer Decree and Ticon for bringing smile to my face, and these ecstatic shivers through my body... Guest Diepeveen
I really love this album, and i do not understand why this is categorised as minimal... It's dark trance, yes, but not minimal! Every track is god damn trippy, and the whole cd is just so funky that i'm almost dancing right now! - 9/
seraph
Pretty poor release actually....It has some great sounds, nice basslines and stunning production, but that's about all...No melodie, no psychedelia, no dementia, just an empty songs with ocassional good surprises...I don't get why everyone are raving about this album, it is just plain average to me....6/
Lemmiwinks
Let me start with the last track - Time Drop... which is BRILLIANT!!! One of my very top ambient tracks!! I don't know why, but it reminds me Eternal Basement's - Woy (which is another one of my top ambient tracks...). As for the rest... well, I don't know, maybe I've been so much in contact with minimal psy that it started to grow on me or maybe this guy actually makes stuff better than the rest, I really could not tell, but I found the album listenable and even enjoyable which for the minimal hater that I am (was...) is a pretty high compliment. 8/10 (10/10 for the last track!!) Guest Dr G
It surprises me that Son Kite, Ticon and many others get highlighted on this website, whilst Reefer Decree do not. I am not trying to knock Son Kite, but to my ears Reefer Decree, and their off-shoots like Oryx, are the absolute best of the minimal Scando trance acts - these guys have got serious soul and the best melodic bass lines in the business. Just listen to "It Did" for instance, and tell me that it doesn't have a knee-curdling joy-inducing bass line. Bass is not all they have though, lots of crisp background subtle atmosphere is on offer too. Really fantastic stuff, intelligent in a way that much minimal is not. 9/10 ~*~

Sideffect...
Reefer decree - Sound frames (2001) This album is still in my top 5 of best progressive releases. There is one thing that makes reefer decree unique and that his base/kick. Motivated and even somehow happy. This album keeps me busy all the time. The "horn" sound they use to pause and carry on with the baseline is revealing. They always use many psychedelic sounds and tiny melodies. It's not warm progressive but strong, tuff and variated.
