Atmos : Gemue Spetzi 09. XV Kilist : Kante Review: Just amazing! DJ Dede and DJ Micha have assembled a collection of purely seductive, mesmerizing tracks. Even better, the mix is far greater than the sum of its parts, somehow creating "subtle explosions" to leave you gasping for air. The dance community has been throwing around the word "deep" too much lately. Sicne the word itself has lost all meaning, MDMA opts to let the music make the point. DJ Dede's mix serves up the more progressive side of deep psy-trance. It bubbles with trippy basslines and swirling synths, but it's never too spooky. Back to back mixes of Cass & Slide's "Opera" sets the tone. Other highlights are an absolute stormer from Taylor as well as the closing sequence from Above and HP Source. Fans of Flying Rhino's progressive-meets/psy-trance releases will be all smiles and gurns with MDMA's effort. DJ Micha's set is darker, harder and is exactly why it's called "trance." You'll recognize some of the biggest names in psy-trance here and this music is undeniably psychedelic -- just don't expect the "145 BPM and a heart attack on the dancefloor" sound. It's more about getting so involved, so "deep" into the music that time ceases to exist and you stare off into oblivion. Yeah, it's that good. Highlights on Disc 2 are everywhere. Noma's "Appat Vivant" gets things into high gear with his signature "bottom-heavy" style. Critics will charge "Schwerqewicht" doesn't go anywhere. Fine. I see their point, and I disagree completely, and I'd rather just dance to this all night than argue. Both Atmos tracks are excellent, if not overly similar to some of his other work. The killer of the album is unmistakable. Simply put, XV Kilist's "Kante" will demolish any dancefloor on which it's played. Deep Trance, Tribal Trance, Deep Trance, Progressive Trance, Psy Trance...do we really need so much division? Clearly not, which explains why Dede and Micha have taken this bold step. In an era when Dick Trevor produces with Danny Howells, Dimitri bangs a Farley & Heller track and the inimitable Sasha drops "Delta Skelter" (yep, heard it with my own 2 ears), there should be a million more releases of this caliber. Disc 1 - 8/10 : Disc 2 - 9/
GaySatanicHippie
I dont have this comp, but i know almost all the tracks. Ktaadn is right, this is the way it is going. I think especially Disc 2 is psychedelic on a whole other level than old school psy, much deeper if you will. Im gonna have to get my hands on this one, i really think this style is the way of the future. It's cool that Sasha plays Delta Skelter, but why not, i always wondered why DJ's like him never played more tracks out of the psychedelic corner. Guest futcion[at]hotmail[dot]com
There are several different styles of trance, right? It's not division, it's just classification so people have some inkling of what they're about to listen to. Some people like hard trance, some people like fluffy trance, and most surprisingly, some people even like house. That's right. House. But for the most part, people here like psytrance. So when you go to a forum where the people like psytrance and say that psytrance shouldn't even be a distinguished subgenre of trance, that just seems a little odd. Especially if you want the people here to identify with and believe your review. Ahwell. You seem enthusiastic enough that I'll give it a listen or two. =)
mars
I didn't like this compil. ok most of the tracks are quite cool, that's all. But there is nothing really attractive in those 2 cds; The tracks are not according with each other very well; The mix is bad; You really don't feel anythin while listening to it; No soul, a psy-commercial thing. Only one good thing: XVKilist - Kante gives a good funny ending. 5/10.
