mars
I think it's freestyle...and random, definitely. Sorry Anoebis but this seems to be a DOWN. I could not understand one song (maybe a bit the last one). The sound is flat, the melodies are silly. This cd is meaningless. It's nice to give it 4/10. Anoebis
Yamabikaya - The Arrival Artist: Yamabikaya Title: The Arrival Label: Shiva Space Technology Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Red Blood Thunder 02. Magnetic Entrance 03. Cosmic Immolation 04. Snail 05. Ecdysis 06. Magumadamaly 07. Oozy Humanoid 08. Arrival (Live Version) Review: The first "freestyle" CD from SST... And I expected something else as this... this is not really freestyle, this sounds like trance from Ausralia (Psy-Harmonics...) or Finland!! But it's less random then the Finnish Trance... And the strange part is that they are from Japan...??!! Anyway, I truly like the music, every song has many special and freaky melodies and every song has is own great bassline... This is one of the most listening-friendly CD's I have!! There's 1 song that is better then the others and that's number 3, it's a total killer...! That bassline is so deeeeep and those melodies so crazy and intense! I played it at a party a few weeks ago and believe me... that song works! So SST is a label with ups and downs (specially after that apalling "progressive"-CD) but this is an UP for sure!! For all you experimental and OOZY (Aussia??) Goodness-lovers... Check this out!! 8/10 Bom Shankar
Guest loq[at]hotmail[dot]com
Well, i really think its a nice powerfull cd from sst ... TOTALLY Insane melody with killer beats and bass... Guest Acidhive
I agree with mars here. I even think these ' melodies' are fucking ugly!! They can stuff their music up their ***** !! This is bad stuff... I heard it at a friends and almost choked when I heard it!! Not for me. 2/10 here
Guest swoop
yes this is crap. it got no style at all. melodies ugly, the samples are amateurish. I can't believe a label can put out this crap when there are so many great artists out there who wants to release an album. 2/10.. there are 1-2 descent tracks on the cd afterall otherwise. Guest gizmo
It starts a little boring for me, but the second part is mad, weird, in japaneese style - freestyle. Something like joujouka, or ubar tmar. It deserves for 6/
Guest steve
I totally disagree with anoebis! The Call of Shiva was great!!! An absolute UP for SST!! But this is an absolute DOWN!! Not worth to listen!!!
Guest Paddohead
What the hell?? Are you guys nuts??? I think this is the highest "UP" that SST ever had!! Really great, but just like Anoebis said, not for the regular Hux-Flux or Darksoho lovers... This is indeed Psy-Harmonics style! PLUR
Guest kobekamai[at]hotmail[dot]com
This album is FANTASTIC! Really great, but it seems not many people can dive into this... And Steve, this is worth a listen, cuz everybody likes other styles, respect that! Bom
Guest Paddohead
Like Anoebis said, music is very wicked, like Texas Faggot or the typical Australian Trance (Fluoro Conspiracy, Rip Von Hippy, Shaolin Wooden Man, Parasonix, The visitors,...) This is the same style altough not as unconstructed! Bom
Guest Jonny-Jukebox & SyNtAx ErRoR
This is a great release from SST, these japaneese really know how to make something new that sounds really cool and original, in our opinion it's a buy! 10/
Guest goakhan[at]hotmail[dot]com
This is really different, twisted good music. After a few listens it's becoming better and better. Some nice 'false' notes gives u a feeling that the oozy humanoids and creatures have landed on earth.
Guest Lost_signal[at]hotmail[dot]com
Yamabikaya is soooooooooo damn! tWIsTeD More experimental basslines and squeaky tweaking brainwashers!!!!! ;=)
Guest Marcello
This album is among the fucked up wicked shit I've ever heard!! Damn this album kicks ass !! Track 3 is tha bomb!! Damn!! I really recommend it for all psy-lovers!! //Marcello
Guest Goa Spirit
Sick, twisted really euphoric at certaain times. then the mood changes it becomes technoish with its repetitive grooves, but once in a while it loses its rythm.. my end conclusion... these guys are good.. they explore areas of sound which are not explored normally... but this one is more like a dry run/ dress rehearsal, the end conclusion is these japs are too experimental for my tastes,,,, yet i still recognize and praise their talent.. once they get the style right, the sky could be the limit... Guest bugbread
A description of the actual sound (for those who haven't heard it): A minimal, straightforward bassline with generally a single melodic line that goes over the top, made of EXTREMELY effectridden analog synth sounds. "Squelchy" describes it. The melody line is a single line, giving the entire band a "one guy" feeling, but the sounds are really blorpy and good. Guest trigon[at]pp.htv[dot]fi
This kicks ass! The sound is really great, all the weird wobbling melodies and the random rhythms which still aren't too random make me go all crazy when I listen to this, especially the tracks 2+3+5. The live version of Arrival is also great. I would rate this 10/10!
Guest crystaltrip[at]web[dot]de
Very goood release from SST! Not for all to hear.... It is special music for special people!! tracks 3+7 are GREAT! Bom Jan
Setsuko
great tunes on this release... I love it, those japanese guys can makes very trippy music... yeah - that's the word to describe this album 'TRIPPY' - crazy stuff... all the tracks are peculiar... just awesome, my favourites are number 3,6 and 8... i give this album a psychedelic rating of 8/
seraph
GREAT ALBUM...It is different but you can't say it's junk, cause it is really not. It is experimental, especially mental and it is sick at some stages but in fact it is very clever release from japanese kinda DEVIANT SPECIES. Hehee. I give 8/10 for this album. Guest [Anonymous]
Mix sex pistols with einsturzende neubauten and add front 242 and cabaret voltaire plus a pinch of psy-trance. great!!
Guest bpsyd
I thought the album was horrible, just a bunch of messed up noise with no direction whatsoever. Was acutally painful in a few instances. Thought I would like it (I like IDM and other messed up beats) but this was utter noise. Music you run to turn off. My friend gave it to me cause she couldn't stand it, I kept it for a week and begged her to take it back. Luckily she did.
Guest tkno[at]bluemail[dot]ch
Freestyle!!! That's the way!!! the future of psy is inside this album... organics influences at it's highest level!!!!
Guest earthborn44[at]hotmail[dot]com
Soon there will be more groups like this (i hope in their own original style. Things like gms, infected mushroom, astrix, alien project, sun project, darksoho, etc... who just keed repeating the same formula to achieve success, yamabikaya instead is really experimental music, to listen in shroom or acid hehehe. When you listen to regular/comerial psy it is obvious that they are pleasing the audiences/djs with the same songs structures and samples. Here we have something different, not for everybody, but all the sound at least is clear, not overload like most psy groups, the samples sometimes sound like random or like a small kid (or an alien!) was playing some wierd sort of music device. That's what i like from this group, it's naiveness, have you listened to magus "toxic"? or krumelur? That's the trance that i love to hear in a mountain party deep in the woods, less vocal samples (most of them in english worshipping a culture and a language, not understabily by all) Crazy samples, a very surprising melody lyke psyside's "galactic law" or miraculix "motions potions". Hehehehe, hihihihihi, hahahaahahah! BAM!
