Guest Stormbringer
The Delta - Thing Artist: The Delta Title: Thing Label: D-Drum Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. Thing (D Edit) 02. Thing (Vinyl Edit) Review: I guess that most trancelovers have already heard "Thing" by The Delta but someone should review this EP for those poor bastards not yet owning the first 12" release on D.DRUM or the "Scizoeffective" album. "Thing" D.Edit (9/10) is really heavy. It has these pounding beats that will hurt your speakers badly and maybe turn your furniture into firewood too. If you want a feud with your neighbours, then this is the track for you! The bass is extremely powerful and I can only imagine how it would feel to stand in front of a big soundsystem instead of my crappy dj-gear. There´s some horroratmosphere in this version but not as much as in the album version. To be honest... this is a pretty poor remix of one of the best tracks of all time. The massive intro from the albumversion is gone, the impressive breaks are almost gone, and many of the samples and sounds are gone. What´s left is the raw beat. "Thing" Vinyl Edit (10/10) has loads of that atmospere missing in D.Edit but lacks some of the other ingredients found in the album version. Something that´s really good with this remix though is the soft and gentle melody that makes an enormous contrast to the crying childsample in the end of the track. Crying babies and horrorsamples, do we really need that in the music we listen to? YES!!! I think that The Delta have understood exactly what people like me want to listen to. Someone may react on the fact that I gave very high marks to these remixes even though I was pretty negative. It´s just that the album version is so much better, but the remixes are still great tracks compared to other records. There´s also a CD-maxi with five different mixes. Guest [Anonymous]
Great dance-floor killer! Thing is certainly one of the best traxx ever produced! Incredible atmosphere and powerful bass! the breaks are greatly masterized! A PEARL! A MUST-HAVE!
Guest [Anonymous]
I love the sounds of the wolves in Thing. They use the same sound in Dracul.
Mergi
At first I was pretty hesitant on reviewing this 12? as it?s been out for awhile and probably everybody who?s following The Delta has already got it, thus my review being kind of useless. But, to hell with that. The original ?Thing? from the album is to me one of the most powerful tracks to ever exist, it?s ten and a half minutes of thrilling orchestral minimal, filled with a pure horror soundtrack feel. So I just had to get this whenever I got the chance (as I don?t have credit card shopping online will be highly unwise as I need to pay more then), and I was lucky and found it at Milky Way Records a few days ago. The first track (d. edit remix) is as Stormbringer so well put it ?raw beat?, and that concept for this track is just a big disappointment. It just doesn?t work for me. The whole horror atmosphere is almost gone and it was the atmosphere and the orchestral sounds together with the progressive minimal stuff that made this track so unique. Now they?ve cut it down to six and a half minutes of ?raw beat?, not too good IMO? 6/10. Vinyl Edit on the other hand is a very well structured and a very well executed remix, excellent break somewhere in the middle which reflects a little from the original. It opens nicely with the trickling sounds of the strings, and they?ve added a new sound, a sort of mysterious melody enters early on and it coexist perfectly with the already ongoing horror atmosphere. But of course this one will not surpass the album version? 9.5/10. EP total? let?s make that an 8/10.
