Guest PsychedelicGav
Space Tribe - The Ultraviolet CatastropheArtist: Space TribeTitle: The Ultraviolet CatastropheLabel: Spirit ZoneDate: 1997Track listing:01. 08'51" All You Need Is Spirit And Nothing02. 07'59" Live What U Love03. 12'18" The Ultraviolet Catastrophe04. 08'43" Know Your Dopefiend05. 09'20" The Journey Is The Goal06. 08'17" Nuclear Fission Chips07. 11'28" The Source EnergyReview:Is this better than the debut, Sonic Mandala? I don?t know if it?s better,it?s just as good, same high standard. Just about everything here is a minorclassic. Again with Space Tribe, they pull no punches. Psychedelic trance tomake you dance manically. And so many samples, I think Ollie was inspired byHunter S Thompson on this album and why not. A lot of the stuff here works sowell on the dance floor - you have to dance listening to the tracks here.Cheers for this!!!!! Another one for those psy trancers who like their musickicking. freak51
Ehh. Great cover art, especially the outrageously happy interior work. Ordinary music though - I couldn't justify buying it. To me this is as the difference as between art and clip-art. This record is nice clip-art: the sounds and forms are old hat, though at least he's recycled the best of the genre. Oh yeah, one more thing, e-NOUGH with the samples a'ready.
Guest Snow Dog
Probably the best Space Tribe. My favorite here, without a doubt, is the amazing "The Source Energy". One of the most complex psy-ambient tracks I've ever heard! I give this album 8/10.
Guest Guru Sigma - shiva731[at]gmx[dot
It was a nice album, with extremely psyched out songs such as track 3, but once you listen to it you've listened to the whole album. What's wrong with samples? these guys have the same voice over and over saying way too long and stupid things. I'd give it a 6/
Guest fheierli[at]mails[dot]ch
I think it's better than his first album Sonic Mandala. There is more power in the tracks (and a good conclusion). I like the voices in the tracks, very trippy. My favourite tracks are 2,3,5 and 7. Rating: 8/
spacemonkey
This is great stuff, let it grow on you because it's highly sapce material. At first listen i liked it but found a bit standard, but once you are used to the way, he uses his melodies an build-ups, which is slow, but fast interacting riff an melodies and sound, put on sound, it really gets you, this stuff just really takes you away. Guest Philip Xmen
One of my first Goa albums and it has a special karma over it... very spiritual. 10/
Guest Davidtolsn
tracks 1 and 3 are unbelievably good, and for them alone this cd is worth getting. most of the other tracks are good, but i HATE track 4... damn fear and loathing sample!! it's long and annoying and used way too often throughout the song. so, unless you can stand really annoying samples, it's hard to just pop in this cd and listen to it all the way through. most people say all space tribe albums sound the same, and they are partly right, but there is definitely some evolution from the sound of sonic mandala here.. still, for some of the bad samples which for me make the music unenjoyable for me, i give it 7.5/
abasio
This is one of my favourite albums by Space Tribe, the melodies and atmosphere are wonderful, floating stuff, sometimes dark. The title track is my favourite, Know Your Dopefiend my least favourite. If Space Tribe could have used less samples, especially the lomg samples, this could have been a true classic. Manuser
The title track could be an absolute killer if it wasn't for its terribly poor mastering
Trance2MoveU
Artist: Space Tribe Title: The Ultraviolet Catastrophe Label: Spirit Zone Recordings Date: October, 1997 1. All You Need Is Spirit and Nothing 2. Live What U Love 3. The Ultraviolet Catastrophe 4. Know Your Dopefiend 5. The Journey Is The Goal 6. Nuclear Fission Chips 7. The Source Energy Ultraviolet Catastrophe? Is he referring to his brand of trance party clothing? Have you seen that sh*t? What an eyesore. It's like a nuclear bomb loaded with Skittles. Even Imba wouldn't wear that. Well...he probably would, but that guy is mental. For me Olli's best album from a goa perspective was his first one. Followed by Shapeshifter. Then this. Although it's really close. The tracks are loaded with psychedelic goa trance. Not the storming kind, but the type that is very varied. One minute he explores psytrance and while you weren't paying attention he hits you with a goa melody. Of course it wouldn't be Olli if he didn't repeat samples or use overly long ones, but aside from that these tunes travel the gauntlet. Always moving, always reaching towards new territory. The opening track and the title track are epic journeys into experimentation with secret doors everywhere. He closes with an alomost stormer that gets more bod the longer it goes. Throw out the Dopefiend nonsense and add some layers to Nuclear Fission Chips and you've got a possible classic on your hands. Mdk
