I'm not gonna go into detail on this one, as I'm not good at reviewing CDs, I think its rather good psychedelic trance than really goa, but I'm not an expert, you guys probably know better... I only own the second CD, and I think its really great! I guess thats probably because I have so many memories and feelings about the time I was listening to it (summer 2001), which was a great, emotional and also difficult time for me. This music helped me when I was really down, when everything was going wrong, the girl I loved turned out to be a selfish slut (J - you'll never read this, but this is for you: thanks god the time with you didn't change me! After all I'm still the same! At the end you lose!!!) But I also had one of the best parties in my life where we had this compilation running, I'll never forget that evening! My favorite tracks are 1, 2, 4 and especially 3, particullary the final part that starts at about 6:00min, which just makes you wanna scream "Yeah! god damn fuckin hell YEAH!!! (and you do...) Ok, I better quit now, hope you don't mind this review, but its just how I feel about it... Oh yeah, and many thanks to Mirko, who gave me this CD and other great ones (like colors of shiva 1+2) and actually brought me to that kind of music! I owe you a lot, man! Guest Rabbitakis[at]hotmail[dot]com
My opinion: Maybe the best pure trance Compilation ever... It is not psy , but it contains very nice melodic trance.. Most of the tracks in this comp are classic trance tunes produced by pionneers of Trance music like : Terra Ferma, Art of Trance, Union Jack and LSG ... It contains also one of the wickest track of Technossomy The Quiet Man track 'the sleeper' is remixed by one of the most Interesting artist in trance scene;ManWithNoName The rmx is superb... I will advise all of you that listen less than five years trance to buy this comp. All the others propably know and listened this tracks many many times and propably own this comp.. Anyway i believe that this comp contains masterpieces... But remember almost all the tracks produced 6-7 years ago.... 10/10 bye
Guest Aqua Mental
Wonderful stuff indeed. I've been listening to lot of old Platipus lately (Quietman's Shhhh album and both Terra Ferma albums) and it still has something that beats most of the modern club trance. Art of Trance's 'Kaledoscope' was the very first track that got my friend hooked into the world of trance, Universal State of Mind's 'All Because of You' is still one of my girlfriend's all time favourites and Union Jack's 'Two Full Moons' (in Cosmic Cubes) was one of my first veeeery trancy experiences when I was 15 years or something... Most of the stuff I liked in mid-90's is not listenable anymore, but this one is a bright exception! Well done Platipus!!!! 10/
Guest Purple
This is definitely not Psytrance... Perhaps these reviews belong on a different site...? No point in letting the *psy*news.org database get full of non-psy albums/compils.
AutoMath
When we are talking oldschool trance you can almost put Platipus in third position after the larger-than-life imprints Eye-Q on first place and Superstition on second place. Clanger - Seadog is one of my alltime favourites in this sunny happy style. I think it is stupid to not call tracks such as "Technossomy - Electon Bender", "Salamander : Tempest (Union Jack Rmx)" and "Union Jack : Two Full Moons And A Trout" goa-trance even though I can't speak for the mixes exept in the case of Salamander (also released stuff as Moonweed). This stuff was played at the parties together with goa at the time, and if you wheren't down then maybe you should keep your voice down a bit. Guest psyG
My opinion AutoMath, still today some DJs mix one of those tracks in their set sometimes, and the crowd (including me) still goes crazy. Maby if you just started listenting to Psy and are used to more minimal and straighter tunes you might find this difficult, but if you enjoy melodies and harmonic trance once in a while this one is worth a try ;-]
