Anoebis Posted August 15, 2000 Author Posted August 15, 2000 Killing Joke - Wardance - The Remixes Artist: Killing Joke Title: Wardance - The Remixes Label: Dragonfly Date: 1998 Track listing: 01. 06'49" Love Like Blood (Deedrah Rmx) 02. 08'59" Savage Freedom (UX Rmx) 03. 07'24" Democracy (Nine Inch Nails Rmx) 04. 07'27" Four Stations Of The Sun (Hallucinogen Rmx) 05. 06'16" Pandemonium (Man With No Name Rmx) 06. 06'48" Jana (Hallucinogen Rmx) 07. 10'19" Black Moon Rising (California Sunshine Rmx) 08. 07'04" Intellect (JohannRmx) 09. 07'30" White Out (JohannRmx) Review: The most of us know that Killing Joke is an rather old Electro group!! But as a tribute to them some famous Psychedelic Trance-producers remixed their songs... That gave some nice songs but also some fucking bad songs that sound like hard-rock!! Specially that Nine Inch Nails-remix!! What is that doing here??? it sounds like Metal!! The best track is the UX-remix, it's really dark... )) Also nice are Jana and Intellect... But the others songs are not my style... Sounds too rock-ish!! So everyone who hates guitars, DON'T buy it, but if you are an old rocker who just became Goa-lover... You should buy this!! 6/10! Guest Mascok Posted August 15, 2000 Posted August 15, 2000 didnt like this album much. as anoebis wrote, sounds too rockish!. and some tracks here are real stupid like this nine inch nails remix, i mean, what are they doing here?, they make heavy metal and, never heard a heavy metal remix to a psychedelic track, in my opinion it sucks big time. nothing else except of both hallucinogen remixes and johann's remixes. 3/10. Guest vezounet[at]hotmail[dot]com Posted August 15, 2000 Posted August 15, 2000 i think it's a good album...and by the way..nine inch nails are not a heavy metal band..they are an industrial band and do work with synths so they deserve their place on this cd.i think they just did this cd to have fun doing songs with guitars...so it nice! ) i give 7/10 take care dudes! ) Quote
Guest Dr Rhythm Posted August 17, 2000 Posted August 17, 2000 This is a largely pointless collection. Killing Joke had their day but it was twenty years ago and although their first two albums were pretty influential this one is hardly going to increase their reputation. Straight to the bargain bin I think 2/10 Quote
Guest http://mp3.com/e-phaze Posted January 6, 2001 Posted January 6, 2001 i like deedrah's remix. it's so beautiful Quote
Guest arm_ageddon[at]ifrance[dot]com Posted July 10, 2001 Posted July 10, 2001 General case :I Hate remix. Only "original" songs are good. This case : I love Killing Joke, but i really hate their remix songs: sounds like techno music... ;o) Quote
Guest dreamweb55[at]yahoo[dot]com Posted July 12, 2001 Posted July 12, 2001 i LOVE it! dark trax...pure energy...NIN rmx is great...be more open minded, dont expect tipical goa tracks here (intro, then first build up at 3:30,second build up at 7:10 ) ..btw,for those of you who hate guitar trax....why the hell do you listen to this CDds when you know what kind of trax are on them and then you are writing a rewiew and you say that the CD sucked??? if you dont like guitars, then dont bother to listen...its like you hate gutars, but you buy a sun project album....you see any logic here?? my opinion 9/10 Quote
Lemmiwinks Posted October 1, 2001 Posted October 1, 2001 Very very good album. Very dark and rockish too... But I must say I agree that the NIN remix doesn't seem to fit in there. While the other tracks have at least something to do with trance, that one is pure industrial rock and there's even a hardcore beat! Not that I don't like it, but it's just not trance. For the other tracks: Savage Freedom, Black Moon and Intellect are awesome!!! The Hallucinogen remixes are good too... 9/10 Quote
Guest grunt[at]goran[dot]org Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 This is the album that brought me close to goa, before I even really realised what Goa was, I loved this album, and unfortunately I am old enough to remember when 'Love like Blood' came out and killed everyone, so good it was. The songs are very varied as befits the very varied gathering on the album. Very cool sounds, very well made, presumably Black Moon California Sunshine is the one that sticks out. Jana is incredible. Democracy is probably the weakest. Quote
Evans Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Oh my God, I saw all these stupid reviews about this "rockish" album...Doesn't ANYONE know ANYTHING about Killing Joke? Killing Joke is (was???) a pure rock group that started during the 80's. Two of their members were Youth-founder and owner of Dragonfly (playing bass-guitar), and Zodiac Mindwarp (Zodiac Youth). Wardance was a pure rock release, having nothing to do with trance. Youth however, started releasing music at the early 90's with Dr. Alex Patterson under the historical name of Orb. This is how Butterfly Studios in London started gathering all these "strange" people like Simon Posford, Ollie Wisdom, Ofer Dikovsky, Avi Algranati, Paul Jackson, Martin Freeland, Pete Martin and so on. In 1995 all these people started the Dragonfly project, created by Youth, a project which created the whole psy-trance scene as it is known today. The biggest kicks were the early 90's Dragonfly parties throughout Britain and, of course, the Order Odonata compilations... Regarding to this very album, it is a remixed version of the original rock album viewed in a psy-trance aspect by these artists who were there from the beginning... Regardless to what you think of guitar-trance it is a really good album and deserves, above all, MAXIMUM RESPECT 1 Quote
Ormion Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 This would be cool if it was instrumental, but the vocals ruin the whole album. Jesus... make them stop. Quote
