Guest Smg
Zorba - The Zen Garden Artist: Zorba Title: The Zen Garden Label: Spirit Zone Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 06'18" The Zen Garden 02. 07'32" Mr Nice Guy Review: This is side project of gms, 'nuff said. It's good that they chose another name for the this music, since it's very different from the usual gms stuff. On the other side we have zen garden, slow track (132) with slow build. They add few layers eventually and it turns into *very* hypnotic track, this section after 4 mins blows the floor...ahh when I imagine all the people hypnotically dancing to this... open air of course, brilliant! Calmness in some sort of trancy way catches me. Can't deny it. Flipside brings us a tad faster (134) track which doesn't really make big difference, both have very similar style. It uses pretty much same sounds, just arranged little bit differently. But it's still great. Amazing part is the one after 5'35'', it's so subtle, like the whole vinyl is!!! Cause very often zen garden feels too short, then I can help myself by listening the flip as well. Uptempoing fucks this stuff up, and I really don't recommend going far over 135 bpm. Strange, this is merely only stuff I want to listen at around 130 bpm, minimal (delta etc stuff) excluded of course. At first glance this stuff seems to be very boring, but I've been listening this more or less like a year now, and it just keeps getting better. Don't let this one go by. Both tracks would have deserved 10/10 IF these guys would have used those subtle and *great* melodies little longer, they just end too quickly. This is extremely good dance music even though it doesn't present blazing melodies or driving basses and rhythms. Extremely beautiful for mellow morning moments!!! 9/10 is justified! Guest Dr G
A very nice ep from Riktam in an uplifting morning style. It is also classic Goa, and harks back to the days of melody without too many wizzy or farty noises. There are also some subtle housey influences here in the percussion, which are not distracting, but you can hear that Riktam spends quite a bit of time in clubs. Personally I prefer this to the growly GMS sound on the whole, although GMS have some killer tracks, and would like to see a lot more come out in this vein. Go Riktam! Excellent dance music that will get any dancefloor whirling (great cover too). 10/10.
Guest Tchankov I.V.
Yes, those 2 tracks are better to be listened to as whole. Then some magic will unfold. Generally speaking, it has some Movers & Groovers flavour in it, but the melodies are more precise here to express the desired image. That's what I find here to my liking, especially concerning GMS guys are behind it & I usually have BIG problem digging'em. So, 7/10 is well-grounded. Tchankov I.V.
