Guest Spectral Collapse
Hey guys, what do you all think of Orbital as a group. Phil and Paul Hartnoll (Orbital) will always be one of my favorite groups for several reasons. First off, i think that their music rocks. Every CD of theirs is done in a different style, they never cease to come up with something fresh and new. I really admire this because alot of artists just recycle their work. I think that since the beginning of their career they have had a good and massive impact on the electronic music scene as a whole. What do you guys all think? Guest Ciotera
With all due respect, Orbital lacks that undescribable "surprise" element, the spirit of innovation and diversity which is so amply present in Simon Posford's work. So, if Simon Posford ever brings Orbital water while their playing live, my hope would be that their music improves because of this water which has been in the hands of a superior musician. After all, Simon Posford is one-half (at least) of Shpongle, and that my friend, says all.
Guest Kiph The Elephant
Posford could bring them water? Damn, he's good enough to bring them a pizza. Seriously though I like his music more than Orbital's. Their stuff is really not my taste, but I'm glad you guys like it.
Guest Gusto
I saw Orbital once at a festival 2 years ago... didn't really like them :-/ they were the last group playing at the festival, and I thought the music wasn't special enough... it was hard for me to stay awake during their performance, although I stood just in front of the stage... maybe the lack of sleep built in the 3 day festival had something to do with it, dunno... Guest dam10n
love orbital to bits, but they sound less relevant than they did perhaps a few years back... lush, halcyon, chime, belfast... among the best moments in electronic music. Guest Full Lotus
Still one of the best 'live' electronic acts I've seen ever...
Otto Matta
They peaked at "In Sides" and have regressed since. They had their moment and have been pioneers in the electronic genre as a whole, but I'd stick a fork in them. I don't think it's fair to compare them to Posford, though - two very different things. I will say that Orbital has a far more accessible sound for the masses, but as far as ingenuity is concerned, they're on par with each other. Guest sudh1r
how can us ay orbital doesnt innovate?? man go and listen their cd's again
Guest Setsuko
agree with Epic automata ... IN SIDES is the one and only ... big rgression started from 'the middle of nowhere' ... just listen to P.E.T.R.O.L. one of th best psychedelic elmectronic music out there... ... but nobody can beat FSOL ... not even posford
Strumpling
I feel their talent when I listen to Orbital, but they just can't Zap me like Mr Posford.
Guest r2d2
Comparing Orbital and Simon is like measuring Orbital against Kraftwerk...It does no justice to ether one of them since they are from two different eras. Having said that, I think Orbital's early work should be in everyones collection regardless of what kind of electronic music he/she is into. I have all of their albums and my absolute favourites are 2nd (Brown cover self titled), 3rd Snivilisation and InSides albums. Their work is incredible and I consider them as one of the most important pioneers of electronic music in general. Someone said that their music is more accessible to the masses than Posford's. Well this may be true now in 2002 but beleave me at the end of the 80's and beggining of 90's their sound was not even close to being 'accessible' to big crowds. They made it so good that people just loved them and paved the way not only for themselves but other generations to come. Credit where credit is due.
