I just wanted to recommend you guys all go out and hear the new Etnica cd Chrome (western edition). It is in my opinion one of the best releases of the year. Pure class on this cd. When you listen to it you just know that it was created by masters. And for all of you who were wondering, it isn't really minimal although it does have elements common to minimal i.e. heavy percusive elements and pumping base lines. But it has some really awesome synth riffs that just send you into orbit. Everything just fits so nicely together and produces some of the most killer grooves you have ever experienced. I liked every song and the album as a whole flows so nicely. Everybody should get this one. Even the people who didn't like Nitrox.

Hey PW, Was is Etnica like. I know they are the same producers as Pleaidians...And I love Pleaidians: Family of Light. How does Etnica compare to Pleaidians ?

I love this CD but if you are expecting typical Etnica Goa Trance, you will be very disappointed. It is mostly pumping tech trance with some distinctive Goa themes to it.

Pleaidians and the new Etnica have nothing in common.

Stringtheory, yeah you're right Pleiadians is awesome! As to your question of what Etnica is like...well the older Etnica (Alien Protein) was alot like their Pleiadians stuff i.e. lots of layered "goa" melodies and very full-on in the melodic sense. Later albums like Equator and Nitrox had a variety of styles on them. Each of these two albums had alot of downbeat songs on them and in my opinion are very good. The higher BPM tracks were more minimal than their work on the Alien Protein album. Personally I liked these tracks but it seems that alot of people didn't appreciate them especially the fans from the earlier days, many of which felt betrayed. Now as for Chrome..well its kind of hard to explain..for me it seems like full-on minimal if that makes any sense. What I mean is that it is very powerfull, digging music and it is very complex and full of sound. But many of the sounds that are pushing the music along are percussive or short sound effects. And instead of lots of layered melodies we have instead some very well chosen synth riffs that just make you go insane. (at least I did So it isn't melodically very complex but the ones that are there just grab you. Overall tho I have to say that it is closer to Alien Protein than either Equator or Nitrox. I love all of their albums but I must say that I was pleasantly suprised by Chrome. Etnica are one of my all time favorite artists and I highly recommend all of their music. But in the end it is up to personal taste, right? You may like them or you may not but if you like minimal style psytrance at all and you liked their Pleiadians stuff I would say that it is a safe bet that you will like their Etnica stuff as well. Anyway I hoped this helped just a little.

I have listened few tracks from the chrome , western edition and i would say that it is ok . Nothing too special , but i agree that can give the energy someone needs to dance. I saw Max this year playing his tracks live and it was very good. Most people enjoyed the music , dancing , nobody complaint about the old and the new etnica.

 

Anyway this album seems to be better than the other edition and maybe better than Nitrox.

 

The truth is that etnica can do much better , these guys in the past created classic , superb melodic tracks but at the same time powerful with lots of acidlines and crazy basedrum fillings. I dont say to make music like the old days but i just say that they can do better a lot better whatever style they think producing..

Thanks Peaceful Warrior ! :-) I have been wondering about Etnica, and now you have completely answered my questions about them.

 

Have you checked out Son Kite: Perspectives Of... ?? It is completely minimal progressive....but yet....conceptually it is very complex. Trully is a remarkable album. Also, I would recommend Lemurians:Crystal Mind...that is a great CD. Nothing big though. Everything is very subtle. There are no big build ups in the music. But the production quality and the ideas behind the tracks are great !

yeah chrome sounds really good..

i was buying cd's the other day and the guys at the record shop were playing amazing tracks of some cd.. i asked what it was and they told me it was chrome.. i was really surprised cause it didn't sound minimal at all as i had excpected it to sound. gonna buy it in the future.

Lot's of people seemed to dislike Chrome, but I love it. Although I dislike minimal psy, I love Chrome. Well, it's not "pure" minimal like peacefull warrior said. There are some great elements there, which make it an excellent album. Also the new X-Dream touches the minimal boundaries, but it still rules.

 

Haven't heard the Chrome western edition yet, but I think I'll rush to the shops today and buy it (thanks alpha for hint, so it should be in stores here in this country..).

 

I love Etnica - the old tunes and the new tunes. Can't wait for new releases! Someone said here, or was it Etnica's website, that similar Pleiadians album is coming than "Etnica I". Does anyone know about that? It would also be great to get a good release of "Etnica I", not just that bad quality mp3.com one. Someone also said a better release of "Etnica I is coming. I hope so. And where's that Starship 101 remix, when it's gonna be released?
