Psychocell
I know Mastering is a skill you either have or was shown in your sound engineering studies. But i was wondering what would be the simple concepts in Mastering a track for begginners, just to make the track sound slightly better . Just the simple concepts that should be remembered? Any ideas guys?

dj mylo
But i want to know the basics, is there any? 500618 - Your kick should be the loudest element in the mix. - Your bassline and kick should be in mono, the rest is up to you

Any other suggestions?
dj mylo
mmmmkay Sounds obvious i guess . 500624 and the mono/stereo thing is a big help in bringing things out in the mix. Split melodies into two mono channels and pan them left and right. experiment with just how much they are panned and you will notice very different results. But I am no expert in mastering. and I don't need to be. mastering is for specialised studio engineers. For Mastering experts. So maybe you should rather listen to what they say: click click click
phobium
A very simple way to master your tunes at home is to first apply some eq (cut some low freqs to get more headroom, boost/lower other freqs according to your ear), and then slam it through a compressor/limiter. I guess that the rest, can be done by ear, by tweaking the volumes to how you want it to sound right.

The whole kick/bassline/whatnot is the mix of the tune, and has got nothing to do with mastering. You should first try to get as good sound you can in the mix and don't think "it'll be fixed in mastering".

"Damage control should be set quite low, say at 15-30%. this will add so much life, warmth and punch to the tune, it's really amazing what's also cool is you can do a basic eq here too, plus add compression etc. I wouldn't call it a mastering tip, but it certainly juices things up a bit! give it a try
phobium
Goddamn ... I miss the scream box. We had some pretty hot nights when I was using reason. It's such a great tool, and it's fun at the same time. Woohoo.

Psychocell
bwbwhahahaha! I finally realised why my track sounded abit "wonky" and too "bassy" I completely forgot when im using monitor headphones not to have the bass up too much. So in otherwords, in the headphones, it sounded amazing, like pumpin . And on a normal pair of speakers, it sounded ridiculious, you couldnt even hear the bassline, only the bass coming off it, same with the kick . So i did abit of tweaking last night, fixed everything up now Great now im just going to make sure that my mix is as good sounding as possible Still need to try the Scream Unit for final mix. Lovin it!!!!!! Thx ppl!
Colin OOOD
Sorry dude. Mastering is a BITCH and everyone knows no one does it for free. But obviously not everyone. 502993 I've done freebies before but there either has to be some kind of relationship there first (you know my email, I hope, Per. 32 bits@44.1K by preference), or the track has to be so awesome that I simply MUST do it. Making good music sound great (to the best of my ability) is something I really enjoy doing, but it does take time and energy, and to my mind if I do a good job, that's worth something to whoever made the track in the first place.
