Charlie
Asking what progressive albums are essential is a bit like asking what diseases are worth contracting.

HQN
keep in mind he asked for melodic/layered stuff and not minimal progressive. I highly recommend (click for samples): this this and this Check out the sound samples and decide for yourself.

Drew05
this thread has been really helpful for me, and there have been some great suggestions. alot of the older stuff here had completely passed me by my one recommendation would be Frogacult!! i bought their album last week, and have been getting lost in their swirls ever since. lovely organic forest-grooves
Aqualung
Wow. I'm just checking all the older threads about progressive trance, since I just discovered I like this stuff. I'm checking everything that's listed here, a lot of great stuff. I think I just got overdosed with full on music and I'm looking for more relaxed danceble stuff. I never knew what progressive trance was like, but after being at the Fullmoon Festival I found out I was one of the few people who payed attention to the groove floor.
