"Dance acts gather for island fest"

High-tech musical gadgetry and nature will merge at the five-day Samothrace Dance Festival between Thursday and August 26. It comes as the latest amid a flourishing series of local dance music events this summer.

The festival, to be held for a second successive season on the lushly vegetated island of Samothrace, in northeastern Greece, will feature some 60 DJs and over 40 live acts coming from a variety of specialised contemporary dance scenes - psytechno trance, progressive techno trance, ambient, freestyle and chill out - on three stages.

Included on the international roster are live acts which may mean little to mainstream listeners but are dance circuit darlings to avid fans. These include Absolum, Hallucinogen and Saikopod.

This summer's event is being supported by the island's municipality and other local authorities with the event's commercial potential for the island's local economy in mind, following last summer's trouble free influx of some 8000 festival visitors.

Five-day advance tickets are priced at 120 euros and will sell for 135 euros at the gate. A discounted 90 euro entrance fee is on offer to visitors from Eastern Europe. Tickets cover camping fees between today and August 28.

typed as it was printed including some dorky things. Anyway I guess it makes a change from stuff like "Hardcore drug youth to gather for nights of sin..." hehheheh.

One time they busted a small party in a basement in athens in a residential area. Some friends actually left an hour before the police got there thank god. They put it all over the tv news. The tv news here makes a big deal out of anything and says so much bullshit and lies. Anyway, they had the newspeople saying the music (psy trance) was SATANIC music. It was a really hilarious broadcast.

Anyway point is that publicity here is not necessarily always a good thing. I hope it works out for Samothraki, if the organisers can pull off another big legal event in this shitty political climate that is a real good thing for the scene here. Although kinda prefer the small illegal outdoor events myself.

I recall the Overlords track "God's eye on Goa", well ....God's eye on Samothraki this week, i think he will be smiling.
