1) How and when did you start to make Goa ?

 

In winter 1992/1993 we went to Goa/India just to make holydays because a friend of us had a house down there. At that time we didn´t know `bout Trance parties. But one evening somebody invited us to come to a party at Bamboo Forest, and when we arrived we couldn´t believe what we saw and heared. Normally we hated electronic music but after one hour we found ourselves dancing in the middle of the crowd. All these positive vibes made us feel like we found our home. From then on we went to every Trance Party but we continued to make Heavy Metal music until 1995. That year we finally bought our first Atari-computer and a few synths. We started to copy the tracks which we heared on the Goa-parties, but they sounded different because we kept our rock influences. Antaro from Spirit Zone liked our tracks, so we released our first 12" on his label in 1996. For a first release it was very successful and so Antaro released our first album "Drosophila" in february 1997.

 

2) Does the S.U.N in " SUN Project " has another sense than only " sun " ? The "." between the letters make us think that's an abbreviation .

 

It means S.tupid U.nrespectable N.oise... ..just kidding.., its just a nice and positive name..who doesn´t like the sun?

 

3) Do you project to release a new album after your last " Paranormal " one ? When would it be released ?

 

Sure we will produce more albums..as long as somebody buys them!? We release one new album every year. This means the next one will come in springtime 2001. But in between two special albums will come out: A "Rock-Trance"-album on our label Novatekk/Sector where all tracks will be with guitar, it will be a compilation from all our four albums plus some unreleased material. It will be a double CD which also contains one or two videos on a CD-Rom part. And then Spirit Zone is planning to bring out an album with remixes of our older stuff. These remixes will be produced by ourselves and by big Spirit Zone Acts like Space Tribe, Electric Universe, Etnica, Shiva Shandra..

 

4) Which of your own tracks do you like the best ?

 

We just don´t have a favourite one, it depends on our momentally mood and power. We like all our tracks, of course and when we have a concert we specially enjoy to play the guitar tracks because the audience goes crazy, then.

 

5) Your favourite psychedelic Groups & Albums ?

 

To be honnest..we don´t know so many other artists and their tracks except the very famous ones. If we hear a track that we like we don´t ask who has made it. But to tell you at least a few names: We for example like Atmos, Element, Delta.

 

6) It seems you often use a guitar sounds to build your Tracks . were you playing in a rock band before ?

 

All of us have been playing in different Heavy Metal, Grunge and Rock bands before, and it seems it´s good to make music together with people that have got the same roots. McCoy was always a drummer (like now), Marco was playing bass guitar (now it´s just a synth bass) and Matthias was the guitarist (like in our concerts,now).

 

7) Where does your inspiration come from when building a Track ?

 

To build a track means a lot of trying out new sequences, new samples, new rythms and weird sounds. Sometimes you don´t have any ideas until you hear a special noise and this noise inspires you to something which you didn´t think about, before.

 

8) What kind of equipment do you exactly use to make your Tracks ?

 

Each one of us has got his own studio where he can work independently if he wants. We´re using PC and Apple coputers, Logic Audio and Steinberg Cubase programs. We still use more Midi than Audio. Each one of us got EMU Samplers and synths like Waldorf Microwave 1, Nord lead, Acess Virus, Roland MKS80, Oberheim Matrix and some old analog synths. We have Tascam mixing desks and many effect machines but it would be too much for this interview to name it all. Since 1995 we have invested a hell of a money in our equipment.

 

9) Future projects ?

 

McCoy: I started a side act called "C.O.N.Sequencer" feat. "Milk". Our first album will be released in the end of october 2000. The label is Insolation/Zoomshot. Milk is a DJ and friend of mine. Together we make really nice funky stuff- Listen to it! Marco and me also make one 12" with Ouija, two tracks we did together with DJ Zippy an DJ Kethama. This will be released on Novatekk hopefully `til end of this year. Also Marco is working on his Solo-album called Marco Menichelli which will be released 2001.

 

10) Is there another artist you'd like to work with ?

 

S.U.N. Project will stay only be the three of us. But the album of our side project Ouija was made with friends/DJ´s like Axel, DJ Sangeet, Boris from Electric Universe, DJ Mahasuka and so on. Also the album we already talked about with S.U.N. Project tracks remixed by different Spirit Zone artists could be very interesting.

 

11) Do you play DJ sets ? If so, what kind of stuff do you play as DJ in parties ?

 

None of us was ever a DJ ! We are Musicians and also producers and when we have a gig we play a liveset and not a DJ-set.

 

12) When & where was your best party ? And your worst one ?

 

Probably you mean parties where we had a live performance?..We now have played more than 100 gigs since 1996 and there have been many beautyful ones like the Solipse Party in Hungary 1999, which we will never forget. Of course we also made bad experiences like when 10 policemen came up our stage and forced us to stop playing.

 

13) As you're on the scene since at least 3 years (your first album, Drosophila, being released in 1997), what do you think about the evolution of psytrance in the last years on a musical point of view ? Have things gotten better/worse according to you ?

 

Since we started to listen to psychedelic trance the scene has grown very much, it´s commercialized a lot like every music scene. On one side it´s not such a family-like feeling anymore like it was 6 years ago when the most parties were much smaller than now, on the other side we are a part of the business and we also want to earn money with our music so we must be happy when more and more people are listening to it. Since a few years the psychedelic trance is developing to a more progressive and minimal direction which is OK because we think it´s just getting boring to listen to the same type of melodic traditional tracks for the rest of our lives. There must be a change, something new sometimes. If you listen to all our albums you will agree that our music has changed like the whole scene, only the guitar tracks you will always find because specially that´s what S.U.N. Project is about. Even if there are people that are tired of guitar in trance : We don´t give a shit, we love it and the most of the trancers love it! We are still rockers!

 

14) Why do you wear extra-terrestrial masks during your Lives ?

 

We wear the alien-masks because they look much better than our real faces. Unfortunately its so hot underneath that we have to put them off after the first track of our live show.

 

15) Do you believe in an extra-terrestrial form of life ?

 

The universe is so unbelievable big that it would be stupid to say "there´s only live on planet earth". For shure there will be more liveforms out there- It´s only a shame that they are too far away. So we try to be our own aliens!
