psytrance or ambient?

which one do you like better of the above and why? for me it's definitely psy. i have only three ambient albums, both shpongle and asura: code eternity, and they are very beautifull i have to say. but somehow ambient doesn't move me as much psytrance does, i can't exactly tell you why. maybe because the pushing beats are missing. the only ambient song that comes near to the amazement of psy is around the world in a tea daze by shpongle, but this track is sometimes quite fast for ambient so maybe that's why...

I like Psy more, I find thatthe bass beats give one more of an urge to dance whereas ambient takes away this feeling. I do enjoy some of the hybrid mixes, like Astral's Still on mars or ambient galaxy. I enjoy ambent but only whne in a specific mood. Psytrance has energy, it has groove and I believ it has a lot more personality.

My two cents :-)

This is a personal opinion question, so of course you're going to get a lot of different responses, but, personally:

Both. Different tyes for different modes.

This may explain why I love Shpongle's Tales of the Inexpressible so much. It has both ambient and psy and appropriate transitions to bring you up and down.

i like them both, it all depends how i feel ... when i'm in a relaxed mood i listen to ambient, when i want to hear some faster stuff i listen to psytrance or progressive.

In general, I listen to three types of music: Psy, IDM and Ambient. Like bugbread says each has its own purpose. When I want active listening (sitting on the couch with the headphones on, eyes closed, concentrating) I listen to Psy or IDM. When I want passive listening (when I'm generally doing something else at the same time) I listen to IDM or Ambient. Sometimes I listen to Psy passively, but rarely, though more often I'll listen to Ambient actively. :) EA

It's entirely mood dependent for me as well, but I really enjoy both. Sometimes having 140-150BPM for 70+ minutes straight doesn't work for me sometimes... that's when I need something that's electronic but not so "heavy".

Lately i've been listening to mostly psychedelic ambient... Like the Eclipse Twisted comp. Listening to walter ego actually right now. when i'm PUMPED i ussualy listen to psy. I'll get my dosage of psytrance with just a track or 2. I prefer to relax most of the time when i'm listening to tunes. But both do it for me. I went on a binge of full on psychedelic trance for about 4 months. Now i gotta take a break...

I prefer psy-trance...and I'm absolutely sure about that... Ambient can be great for my mental health, especially when coming home from a party (to unwind my head from still pounding and buzzing at high speed) but then I mostly fall asleep after the 2nd/3rd track so...this is not the right time to listen carefully)

The only time I can really enjoy ambient is in the morning when I'm just out of bed...

but if I really want full mental relaxation in the day-time psysounds distract me...

then I prefer absolute quietness...

But then psy-trance I NEVER get tired of... There's not a single moment that I can't handle the speed and ponding energy...
