Absolum - The music was amazing..i can't find words..great basslines, great noises and wonderfull melodies..sounded something like modern transwave...New CD will be out in Oktober with those tracks... 2. Pleiadians - Played only new material except starship 101 remix which i heard when they played as etnica in another party. The material is excellent..Great melodies and very old etnica/Pleiadians like. Max was dancing like a maniac on stage and i must ask the people who saw the live: is there a cooler guy one stage then Max? Seen anyone dance as good as him? New CD will be out Novermber/Demcember on Etnicanet. 3. Space Tribe - During sunrise the first day. Excellent Full On/morning music. Played many good tracks. Ollis "live" is something between DJ other tracks with his own tracks...The atmosphere was just amazing!!Smiling people everywhere... 4. Hallucinogen - Simon Played as last liveact.. Played for much longer then he suposed to. All my favourite simon tracks were played..Great!! To bad the music stoped 4 times (!!!)... 5. GMS/Zorba - Very good tracks during the day..no more to add...Oh yes i must add a funny thing..When GMS played as Zorba they had to mix between the computers..after they played for 1.5 hours it was Dimitris time to play but he wasn't there so they start mixing GMS tracks which they had on one computer and Zorba tracks from the other computer...Nice Job GMS!!! This were the acts i remember the most...but also very good were: Kox Box(POWER!!!), Total Eclipse (Some old stuff!!!) and Orion played some nice stuff!! The party was great..maybe a bit too much drugs... I need also help to identify 2 tracks.. this track was played like 4 times during the festival..I heard only play it.. Typicall Talamasca bassline and in the middle of the track music stops..and there is this sample: after wave (and there is a lot of ecoe so it repeats it self some time) and then comes this great melodie! what track is it?? Guest russ Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 no offense man, but you just listed the worst live acts for me. the only music i really liked on the main stage was james monroe's dj set and tristan's dj set. i couldn't believe hallucinogen kept on playing more and more and more, after his computer stopped again and again again...i wanted to throw Simon off the stage and let a proper dj finish the party in proper fashion! Guest Lunar Man Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 russ: if you only liked 2 dj-sets in the main stage then you maybe don't like psy-trance..all the people did a hell of a job..and since you were at the party, you should know that it wasn't simons fault but the organisers...the main electricity went down some times...when i talked to Mauri about it he said the same thing (pleiadians had also a short stop in the music)...also G.B.U., tristan had the same problems..and some more..can't remeber right now... But i agree with you about his "own breaks" after every track was finished...but he keept playing cause everybody was screaming..one more track and so on.. DR. Cheroot: thanx!!! LOGIC BOMB : nothin g more to say , they are just genius , does anybody know the last track they played (with the sample " no rest") ??? killer new track! PROMETHEUS: that was the big surprise of the festival , i can't wait to hear his killer material again GMS: not for the music , but for the energy and the vibe, the crowd was jumpin everywhere , and the firemen came and there were rainbows everywhere SBK : sebastian played a killer 2H30 live act, really powerfull , and the progression of his set was excellent , & he had the big smile during all his set SON KITE: killer killer killer , really better than what they did at voov ATMOS :he rocked the dancefloor really hard , killer KOX BOX : many tracks from kox box, and some from saikopod , amazing live acts , ian and franck'e burned the dancefloor and of course the dj set of tristan , emok and jeppe did a great job too but for the worst stuffs i've seen , i would say that ollie wisdom was just ridiculous , no mixing at all , bad tracks... crap hallucinogen, i didn't liked it either... anti did a bad job imho.... i love this guy , but this time , his set was just house... not trance at all (just a few trance tracks at the end like son kite "reewo"), he really disapointed me, because i saw him in paris and at voov this year, and every time it was great, but i didn't liked him this time... boom Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest unikos Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 i believe that the main stage had pretty crappy music most of the time.. i dont know why so many people liked gms (especially zorba) since they are so boring to hear live because they dont have any variety at all... kox box was by far the best live act IMO .. when they started playing their live stuff the sounds where just so good-no comparison to the same boring-not deep at all sounds of most of the others... these guys know how to make u dance zen lemonade at the progressive stage were very good simon in his dj set in the chill out was really good and his live was crap compared to his last year's live at samothraki, but still better than most of everyone else... also tristan's dj set was rather good (a bit boring at some points), although i didnt like his live set at all.... in general i was dissapointed by the music at samothraki because its just so completely boring to have a kick drum competition all night long... maybe its just me but i believe that a lot of the people take far too many drugs(ecstasy) and cant appreciate anything that is different from bam bam ts tzzz bam BAM BAM ...... and because im in my grumpy mood now : did anybody go to the magical forest festival in naoussa, greece earlier this summer? on the second night andrew till, organica and rip van hippy played the best music ive ever heard in a party and i was dancing all night and morning even though i was very tired and had taken no drugs, along with 30 (or even less) people out of 1000... why did the rest 970 people not dance to that music??? maybe because it was not 4/4 and not hypnotising bam bam bam bam ??? sorry for the long and weird post!! : ) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest AMP Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 Hello I dont understand why you say that Unikos...I heard GMS and Zorba at the Boom Festival and they were great, I really really enjoyed the live from Zorba and I felt the guys were giving the crowd and excellent vibe, dancing all the time, pushing people on the breaks, and cool tweaks with the virus they were using. A track from Zorba...i cant remember the name...its a remix from an old tune, was played on the live and at least 4 times more on the boom. Since we are talking about Live's, I must say I really liked Talamasca's one, he gives great crazy vibe to the dancefloor, rocking sound, powerful on those speakers. Skazi, the usual stuff, great set for dancefloor, mad people everywhere. And the last but not least, Suria, he suprised us all with a great powerful full on set. Guest HAch Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 wow that make me think something i never really noticed until now... i mean dance all nite and morning... i havent go to many parties this year, 2 or 3, and i stop using drugs (LSD hash most), and i thinked once it was me i was changin, but move your body for 15 hours like crazy and not sleep its not natural.... i mean it most be very bad for the body, and unless youre really on "trance"... i mean one party and not sleep couldnt be bad, but after 20 parties in a year things most change. on ther other side, that thing unikos said, is something very very real to me... this is not "spiritual" anymore, now in many parties in the world (im not telling all) this thing is more junkie now. i think nothing is really bad with drugs, the problem is when people go to this kind of parties more because of the trip than the music... well what you think? Guest nikos devic Posted August 30, 2002 Share Posted August 30, 2002 Just returned from samothraki island after spending 14 days there , i'm glad i'm back home with my stereo so i can listen to something good for a change I have to admit that apart from having one of my mates arrested in the port before the fest, from being thrown out of the camping because i couldn't afford the ticket , having to camp outside the fence (since i had no bracelet) and then awake at 9 in the morning by a group of 15 cops who decided it would be cool to raid the tents of the people who had no money to enjoy the security of the festival camp, i can say i had a very good time... Well i managed to see the first night (before security found me and threw me out) , missed friday night and then was back in saturday (i managed to get a cheap ticket from a friend)... First night was crap apart from the opening act , Younger Brother , who was very good , made me run to my tent to get me mates but by the time i was back it was either wizzy noise or Eduardo or both, who made me sick till morning after hearing a kickdrum banging for the whole night... from saturday morning till the end of the festival i liked the Koxbox live , excelent (why then Frank played such a crappy set ??) , Tristan live , really good (reminded me of old tristan tracks but then there was a problem with the desk and he had to stop live and play dj set which was very boring , like the latest tracks he had released - tekno-kind of music...) , MWNN set (at least i think it was him , the guy who played really old tracks in the end ??), Simon chill out set , first half of Logic Bomb (last half was crap) , first half of Hallucinogen (the last half not bad but we have heard these tracks every time he plays - Please play something new , man...)Grey area in the chill out , and some more djs in the chill out whose names i never learned... I wish i had heard Pleiadians , i learned they played very good, but i was thrown out that night , and Zen Lemonade... Greatest dissapointments : Orion , sad because i've heard him play excellent earlier this year... Also very sad is the fact that the people liked some really crappy music in the fest. , better to stop taking e guys, try some shrooms or lsd ... Oh, unikos , magical forest WAS really SPECIAL !!! Zorba => melodic all the way, people going crazy in the Greek sun, and because there was no Dimitiri the GMS guys simply continued with GMS stuff... 1.) Pleiadians => waaauuw, only a pitty it was a bit short 2.) Absolum => véry surprising, véry powerful! 2.) Hallucinogen => he played some fantastic new tracks, very melodic, and véry psychedelic! 3.) Kox Box => the biggest surprise for me! Great stuff 3.) Logic Bomb => you new what to expect, but what you get is amazing stuff 4.) Lotus Omega => they changed their style, and became much better!! Guest green mouse Posted August 31, 2002 Share Posted August 31, 2002 my short short review.... the music on the main stage could not make me dance....and this bpm competition that they had going on during nighttime...was benefitting only the extacy crowd.....good that there was the progressive stage.....as to the hallucinogen live, i did not like it at all.....did not flow like a set, but was just separate tracks played one after the other (very very different from the set at voov last year, which was very very nice).....i am very sorry that i missed james monroe, for every time I have heard him, he has been a pleasure and is by far one of my most most favorite djs.....wow...the tea is overboiling......... Out of 5 mates I was the only one with ticket and they were thrown out several times each, by that's not a thing to complain about, they were quite friendly too, I actually asked one of the security,(while he was throwing a mate out) ppl to give me his shirt after the festival (the one which had S.D.F written at the back) and he did!!). As for the music... almost all the people complained about the unoficcial Bpm competition, whenever someone went on stage he had to play harder than the previous (Joti and Psaras were trully the worse) one. Just few comments: Pleadians didn't play only new stuff, they played old stuff espeially from IFO (they were good but I didn't like Lotus omega) Did u notice that when Kox Box started playing the sound was amazing, even though it was loud it was still very clear, since Ian had engineered the main stage he knew well what he was doing. Simon's set was exactly the same with last years (except for the fact that this year he had problems), the only songs that he didn't play last year were, "Thugs n tye dye" and another one with vocals that apparently is new. Simon's chill-out set was very good, even played some funky/jazzy songs. Son kite had a violinist on stage, it was amazing! Main stage simply lacked variety! There were soooo many ppl that knew nothing about the music and had only come for drugs, I remember a guy asking who the Dj is when Hallucinogen was playing live. Anyway, I think this year it is as big as it gets, don't think that there will be another festival as big as this one next summer, though they say that they might organise a third and last next year at the island! I have never used any drugs or smoked a joint in my life.. I found the music beautifull (i really like melodies in psy-trance and there was plenty of them), especially the morning music..But of course, everyone has his own taste so I am not judging anyone. Everything is about taste.. BTW, someone said something about the spirit being lost..and i agree with you completly.. Most of the greek people (please NOTE that i say most and not all) went there for the drugs and for the trip (i have many greek friends that did so) and not for the music...I should add that i am greek but i live in sweden...I felt like me and a friend of mine was the only people in the dancefloor who hadn't used any drugs...I can't understand why people can't have fun without drugs... to 665: The did play only new stuff..since i talked with Max and Mauri before and after the set...and also i have heard I.F.O. at least 2 times a week since 1997 and i know every single melodie, sound, noise and so on... Guest nikos devic Posted August 31, 2002 Share Posted August 31, 2002 Well 665 you are right that's their job , my point was not about the security taking me out but about the police raiding the tents next to the camp, which , imo , is really unfair considering the fact that the people outside where the poorest people who couldn't afford not drugs but not even the festival ticket and were arrested for having a few joints , while on the other side of the fence were people who had spent 135 euros for the ticket and another 300 or more for their drugs... I guess the greek police had to arrest some people to show the media that , apparently , are doing their job , while not annoying the good promoters of the fest who have been so generous with them...Also the security were NOT really friendly , many of them had a cop attitude , i guess a uniform makes people strange... Instead of being happy that was one of the biggest festivals in europe, you start saying about the pigs and their attitude. Wake f*****g up !!!! In the festival they were 3 stages if you want to listen progressive you go to the progressive if you like to chill you go tot the chill out stage and if you like to listen to hard psytrance you go to the main stage. In those stages all of them!!!!!! , i repeat myself all of them!!!!! (maybe someone is deaf or ******) they played the best djs.Tell me another festival with similar line up??????? I'm getting really annoyed by people that they start saying just the bad things of an event and they remember just the bad things!!!! (you f*****g b****s) If you have a problem with the festival and the music ,the only solution will be dont f*****g go!!!!! Better for us. We dont want such people in our parties!!! Enjoy the festivals even if you had bad experiencies and please ,please STOP F*****G COMPLAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How you can say that you didnt enjoy music from the main stage? How is it possible to like psytrance and dont like music by GMS,ETNICA&PLEIADIANS,TOTAL ECLIPSE,KOX BOX,TRISTAN,ABSOLUM,Hallucinogen anyway i suppose most of you are into progressive psy or the crazy australian-finish freestyle.. I dont mind with this kind of styles , and i enjoyed my time in progressive too .. Best acts from the proggy ... Tromesa/bigwigs ,electric universe ,mark allen and quirk ... Also there were some good suprises from greek djs like MARIOS , TOLIS Q AND PAN PARASON ... I didnt visit often the chill out , i watched only the patchwork live which was incredible.. Pleiadians LIVE and GMS Live AND ELECTRIC UNIVERSE was for me the best in this festival.. So energy , so nice vibes in the stage the spirit of dancing was absolute amazing in those lives... Best dj act : main stage : Tristan prog stage : mark allen i didnt enjoyed much ... 1 Hallucinogen 2 Tsuyoshi 3 Lotus Omega (although the sound much better than the recycle bin album) 4 The local people 5 the coupons 6 people with negative vibes (for example people similar with people from this forum that only had negative opinions and thoughts about this amazing festival) I hated The port authorities ....
