Psy-Festivals

This summer there seems to have been more than ever a shit load of trance festivals going of all over europe, and alot of them being cancelled for one reason or another, i was meant to goto Voama - cancelled - someone told me Zoom in Switzerland

cancelled but then heard maybe it wasn't (rumors rumors). There seems to be so much going on that is there a danger of there being to much ? I mean i thought samothraki was superb - the most amount of money put into production i have seen - a helicopter filming GMS, incredible line up - decor and lasers - but the security were a bunch of twats who seemed to be really enjoying walking through peoples camping areas across there legs with their big fukin torches which i doubt even had alight bulb in them - they are for hitting people over the heads with, and i'm sorry but i saw two kids being security they couldn't have been any older than 15, what the hell are they gonna do when confronted by a crusty with a spade - dont get me wrong the promoters did a great job but it did hit me that it all seemed alittle bit like glastonbury :)

anyway the point of all this is that i'm going to be very selective next year about what i goto incase things get cancelled - are there to many festivals and maybe we are reaching a point of critical mass? what do you think?

" critical mass"... that's the problem I think.

I have been to Boom this summer and even if I spent a realy good time in Portugal , I think there was to many people there. The problem wasn't the number but I have seen some people who was not for sure trancegoa addicted. I mean someone with a T-shirt : " thanks god I am a VIP" or some people asking u if u have Ketamin for sale, people smoking crack...

I think some organizators want to create to big festivals ; and now everybody come to the trance festivals . The authorities don't like that of course and as they don't want big rave parties in their countries ; they try to stop it. I think this is what happened for Voama .

But we are in a capitalistic logic and it is a shame to admitt that festivals became now big internationnal firms which want to make benefits!

We have to keep the spirit of goatrance parties . Maybe if we do smaller festivals by the size ; they will become larger by the quality...

Ok... but I will go on partying and I wil try to spread all my postive vibes !!!!

Boom shankar!

just want to tell you about the zoom festival: it wasn't cancelled because of bad organisation or something like that. everything was ready but the weather was so bad they had to cancel it. on the dancefloor you would have sticked in mud and dirt untill the hight of your knees or even more. so the security people from the police and firemen didn't let the party take place. really sad... :-(

Whats wrong with someone asking to buy ketamine ? :P

If the Samothraki promoters had but up at 5 meter fence around the site, Andy, you may have had a point. All they were trying to do is protect their investment. I was told by a greek friend that 50 % of the greek people who came hadn't bought a ticket, so I don't blame them for wanting that many security. All the ones that I came across seemed very friendly, torch/large dog or not. They were just doing their job, and during the festival itself were very unobtrusive; it was only in the 2 days leading up to the party that I saw them going through the campsite. =o)

as long as i remember i was never on a party were only pure gaoheadz were. some "wrong" ppl are allways around. and what is wrong.... a stupid shirt?! i too take some ppl to there first goaparty and they may not fit in perfect. some laught about ppl dancing,... but i give them the chance to decide if they like it or not. if they do... the rest works automatic.

and: everyone his own choise of weapon!! i sometimes drink beer on parties. why not =)

I'd better make myself a bit clearer, i meant that 50 % of the greek people hadn't bought a ticket in advance. :)

Well said, emk, half the people i was with at the festival (there were about 30 of us) looked like they had never been to a party before in their life, but we all go regularly to them. Just because someone is not dressed up like a Christmas tree doesn't mean to say they don't belong there. :-)

My impressions about security at Samothraki is that they were polite, speaking very good english and not've seen them hurting anybody.

I doubt much that people were allowed to take whatever they want from the stores or stalls and pay nothing! Why then they should enter for free, it's kind of steeling too, IMO.

Allthow it's the way that the things go - punks to dress like punks should, metalheads like it's well known, I think that ppl should wear whatever they feel like and that it's a matter of everyones free choice! Even T-shirt on trance festival! What counts is attitude.

BTW, SUNRISE2002 in Italy is just cancelled too! :-(

I love beer to!!!!!!!!!! And I don't juge people by the way they are dressed!

Xcuse me if I wasn't clear.

I just wanted to say that nowdays you can feel that the vibes in big festivals aren't as good as befor. I am no stupid and I know that someone not dressed like a pure goahead isn't automaticaly a bad guy! But trance parties aren't the place ( for me) where people can show how they are important and clever, rich... it is not in symbiose with the goatrance culture; is it ?

But I am sure that Ketamine is not an Happy drug and you won't spread only good feelings to other when you are on K.

I wasn't at the Samothraky festival, and so I am not speaking about it ; just the Boom.

As I said , I am still in love with trancers AND all people who love this music and its culture!

Peace...

fair point actually about security - its just we were camped near the fence which is our own fault i suppose but we had security running up and down and at night you couldn't go near the fence where i had a nice spot to take a piss ! - PLUR - just a little rant of mine:)

appreciate that there were probs at Just Dance in Athens, with a high percentage of people breking in - think the point i was trying to make was i've never seen security like that at a festival b4 - i do appreciate they have to protect their investment, but r things getting to big and now its sort of becoming over comercialised and things seem to be going up a step or to? suppose with more money involved the whole thing starts to take on a new angle it aint just hippies in a field anymore!

anyway want to make clear i had a great time and thought it was great apart form where i choose to put my tent:)

PLUR

actually thinking about it, my point was if new festivals r springing up all the time with big line-ups i think its to much. You get people promoting who have no idea how to put things togethor, i mean Greece had how many 5-6 festivals this summer - was samothraki the only success? - it seems a similar situation to the UK when the eclipse happened - there were five or six festivals on at the same time all had good line-ups - the amount of people going to a festival got spread around all of them and they all bombed!

Just hope this doesn't start happening with festivals round the wrold to do with psy!

Haven't you realised? Psytrance is becoming comercial. You can thank Progressive trance for what is happening. Now at festivals there all kinds of people.

I was at Boom this year, and It was the most beautiful Festival ever, but in the last 2 days it was infested with people who don't even know the difference between Trance,House,Techno, etc. They were there to do drugs and listen to any kind of electronic music. Thank God the ticket prices were high and the location was not very accesible, that made the scum of the Portuguese society stay away!Believe me,I'm Portuguese and all the Trance parties here can become your worst nightmare.80% of the people at this parties look like they just got out of jail. 10% of the 80% just go to the parties to Deal or Steal, and about 50% are there just for the Drugs.

The Techno scene is almost non existent in Portugal because of these people,so now they are moving to PsyTrance. God help us!!!

word.

Although I`ve never been to parties outside Finland, I`ve always been much more comfortable in small intimate parties, even the Hallucinogen and IM gigs in Helsinki, which had (about) 1000 people in both, made me feel a bit claustrophobic :D

I wonder how I would`ve felt in a gigantic party, such as those large festivals

Unleashed: The last two nights were indeed confusing, the only thing that truly irritated me was the crowds of people circulating aimlessly on the dancefloor. These people had no intention of dancing whatsoever, they just kept on bouncing on people, walking back & forth. Dont get me wrong, I can appreciate the fact that not all the people who are in to the music are into dancing as well. But if you have no intention to dance & want to just want smell/feel the vibes there was nothing but space outside that circle. Dancefloor is constant movement evolving & morphing all the time, you just cant go in to the middle with the attitude "entertain me, but dont expect me to put in anything". If you dont feel comfortable with dancing stay away from the dance floor & watch from a distance, this way you have a better overall picture anyway + you are not killing the dance vibes on the space meant for D A N C I N G.

PS. What touched me was seeing this guy on the dancefloor who was somehow disabled. He had a small festival chair on which he was sitting on & he rocked on his chair full-on :)).

Lauri: Outdoor events are something else you should no that. 1000 people at Makasiinit can make anyone feel claustrophobic ;). I heard that there were about 12000 people at Boom this year & I must say for me it felt still very intimate considering the amount of people. Dancing was great fun, loved the dancefloor, great atmosphere + the sweetest sound I have ever heard. It was truly Quadrophonic :))).

Yeah man,It was the most beautiful thing ever.Boom was so damn great,I was talking about other small parties in Portugal who suck hard but Boom was incredible. Has long has they keep the tickets high we won't see too many people who just want to listen to any kind of music and don't give a shit about trance(at least in Portugal) :D

I want to see every Trance Hippie of the world in Boom 2004!!And lots of beautiful girlz too ;)

hey unleashed,

i can really imagine what you wrote about the trance partys in portugal

the boom was so great, and afterward i went to zambujera de mar (nice place) to the HipNose Party, expecting much, but this party really sucked.

it has to come really hard for me,to leave a party while nicely tripped out with enough smoke, nice weather, beeing on holliday, having enough money....at 8 in the morning.

nobody really danced together nor seemed to have a bit of fun.

like you wrote above

i went home to the caming place saying to a friend joking:it seems to me that this was a "good" techno party.

chilling at the beach was better

boom
