So yeah I live by Chicago. I have never ever once seen any sort of psy-trance parties or any psy-trance headliners play anywhere remotely close to me. :( The entire midwest is OBLIVIOUS as to what goa is or psy-trance is. I think me and this other kid i know are the only 2 local dj's who spin psy-trance in the entire midwest. Its fucking sad.

Im just bitching....thats all....any1 else experiencing the same problems as me? I fear I will never see the likes of someone like Infected Mushroom or Logic Bomb ever due to peoples ignorance here.

for a long time i lived far away from psy-parties and psytrance minded people too. discovered the parties pretty late.

sometimes i pity myself for it, but then i console myself thinking that perhaps just because for so long i was deprived from the psyscene, i now appreciate it all the more.

perhaps people who have had psy-parties all the time without having craved for them, without having lived with psy-party-depriviation for so long,

enjoy them less than i do now...

anyway, i wish your time will come soon too and that u'll enjoy it as much as i do.

:-)

I totally feel your pain. I just moved back to Minnesota after 3 years in Japan where the psy-trance scene was really starting to peak. It sucks big time. I think there are no more than 5 djs in all of Minnesota who even spin psy-trance in there bedroom (myself and my roommate are 2 of those 5) much less in a club, so the scene is pretty barren. We have been trying to get 1 hour slots at the so called "raves" around here once in awhile and a few people seem to be getting interested, but for the most part when you say anything with the word "trance" in it, people around here assume you are spinning Paul Oakenfold's latest tracks, regardless of how much explaining you do....

exactly.

I lived in Chicago for 6 months and suffered just like you. Fly to New York or drive to Toronto. That's what I did. I just moved to San Diego, and I am looking foward to partying in SF and LA.

I feel your pain Tekfreak :-) Unless you go to NY or San Fran, you are hard pressed to find anything remotely related to psytrance. What really sucks is that you have no one around to experience this music with. To talk to about it. The only outlet I have for discussing psytrance is this forum. But there is also a small part of me that kind of likes the fact that 99% of the populus in the states knows nothing about psytrance. It is like this amazing secret that you know about but nobody else does. But that being said, I really wish it would get bigger here in the states. It would be nice being able to go to a record store and actually find a psytrance album. And it would be nice if more big name artists toured a broader part of the country. But that is wishful thinking. I doubt psytrance will ever take off in the US.

its exactly like that here in norway too

i live in norways 3rd biggest city, although its only 160000 people, but NO ONE has ever heard of the words "goa" or "psycedelic" and such

when i first got hooked on this music i had just downloaded some tracks from the net and though that they for sure would sound alot better on the stereo. I went into town and to the best biggest record store here, asked them if they had anything by infected or ap, the guy just laughed at me saying no such music existed (!!!)i told him quite the contrary and had him order trust in trace 3 from his supplier. i was told to come back the next week, i did, and the guy told me even his supplier had never heard of this music

quite insane really

Sometimes you have to do what you can to help the scene locally.

Several years ago I went to a Tower records store (large chain retailer in the US) and started talking to one of the people that handled the music ordering. I gave him a list of the various labels, distributors that I was looking for, as well as some websites to find out more information.

Well, that person followed through and starting getting in some good stuff. It turns out that within the next year the Electronic music section rose to became second in revenue only behind rock/pop. So, there is hope.

As for club/party scene I don't know. I am not much of a party person. I tend to hang out with friends and listen to some good psy over a couple of beers and some sushi but, that's just me.

What would be good is if someone were to get a decent psytrance radio show going.

How about a .PDF format pamphlet with basic information covering the topic of "What is Psychedelic Trance?" including a history of culture, music style, what people do at a party and why it is fun, the global connection, etc ...with attention to all the positive points of the scene. Provide a few internet links, and some local scene info, and then photocopy them and put them in stores or hand them out on street corners :)

I live in St. louis and feel the same like you do. Before 3. years I moved from Berlin to st. louis, and there is no one who have EVER heard for GOA- Trance. It's like living in the middle of nowhere. Berlin of course got huge movement for all techno -styles. Here in St. louis I would try to Promote Goa-Psy-Trance to people , I'm gonna have a party on Halloween probably, maybe people would start feelling The Magic Vibe, It's time for Goa to come on poor midwest... I Hope....(-:
