I keep seeing free compilations coming along that are poorly distributed using megashare or yousendit and other such links... disk space and bandwidth become a real issue, not to mention the hassle involved. I've been helping several groups out with their releases by distributing their content with bittorrent, and in most cases, would surely be open to helping others in the future.

 

What you gain: dedicated distribution at no cost, with no ads or other bullshit.

 

What I gain: actually, I just do this because I would like to see more free releases getting proper distribution... it doesn't cost me a thing, and it doesn't take long to setup, so I'm happy doing it.

 

How it works: you send over the files (the bigger the better), preferably before you post it around on all the forums, so I can build the .torrent file. It helps if you can 'seed' the torrent as well (this means you run a bittorrent client and keep the file up so others can download whenever)... but usually people are pretty good with keeping the releases seeded.

 

Now, the transfer rates aren't always spectacular, but they can get to be quite good, and a lot of people already use bittorrent for file sharing... just contact me anytime you have a release planned, get me final materials, and I will most likely package it up for you... then you post the info as you usually would, and distribute however you usually would, with one extra method for people to grab your release.

Sure, if they are something substantial.... the only thing I'm not really doing is mixes, coz there are a lot of them, and I usually don't have the time to go through very many...
