Guest Elysium Project
I just recieved a Insolvency Act Notice from Flying Rhino's Lawyers. It's a sad day when one of the "top" labels have to close down due to the wellknown market problems. R.I.P

Guest andy
do's that mean the tracks are yours again to own outright? - suppsoe that depends if they signed copyright or licensing doesnt it? - starting to try and learn about the contracts etc..! Guest Cujo
A label closing down, does not involve them losing their signed copyrights!
Guest AgalactiA
and I just sent a Demo CD to James! what a shame ......
Guest Cujo
Well, James will probably still be able to listen to it. and play it. and make sure it reaches the right people! . so don't worry!. the fact that their label is down. just means that they aren't releasing stuff themselves anymore!..???? there are still 100000000 labels left. only 10 of them serious. but ok!.. :-)
Guest Elysium Project
When a label close down all the copyrights goes back to the artists 100%.
shpongled
What were 'the wellknown market problems'?
Guest Cujo
That really depends on how they close it down Kristian!. are they broke? do they just close down before they are broke. or do they just lay down the busines? in the last 2 cases. they own copyrights, until the contracts go void!!!!!! Any written contract with any firm. even if the firm does not exist on a working basis, but only on a small basis running in the background. trying to get back into business the contracts are still running. if the contract says different, then the contract could still be running, after they close down!.. it really depends on a lot of things! Guest Elysium Project
Hi Cujo :-) ....My e-mail is on the way. In this case they are bankrupt......meaning = Total closedown...no company anymore....The Ltd. has been or will be un-registred. When a label isbankrupt and file for a insolvency act all copyrights return to the artist after termination since all agreements are no longer valid.... It's exactly what happened to Matsuri some years back.
Guest Elysium Project
I am sure most people can figure out what "the well known market problems are"..... The debate has been here for a while :-) No need to start a new "slaughterhouse".
shpongled
I was pretty certain you ment mp3s by "the well known market problems", but didn't want to say my point before I was sure what you were talking about... and my point.... maybe there was not enough people interested in their music and that's why they had to close down.... or some other reason (there could be meny) but not only mp3s. It's very easy to blame mp3s because they are "bad" thing...... but was that really the reason? Did you hear it from them or was this your own conclusion? Guest Elysium Project
Well I am a long time friend of James, Dom and George...so yes I got it from George and also from Jean Borelli who spoke to James in Greece....Of course it's not the only reason (another was distributors not paying) but it played a big part in the bankrupcy and the lack of selling CD's eventhough more and more people praised their releases (on their website and via e-mails ect.). Guest 1
ITS BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THEIR RECORD ICON!!! no just kidding. It's hard to belive Flying Rhino shutdown they were such a well established label... with a great funny name. perhaps it was becuase they changed to a less ... i mean they sorta got commercial and tried to attract more customers, all while alienating their fans... and the change of their icon does mark this. Flying Rhino died a long time ago some say... mabye they'll come back with a new goofy old school icon and call it Flying Rhino World =) peace and love and impermanence
Guest Tegma
I heard that James Monroe is gonna open another label though... So its not totally over.
Guest Elysium Project
As far as I know James is gonna concentrate on his music and will not open another label.
Guest nomad
James monro has his shit together it seems ., maybe that is what is needed; for the fat to be trimmed.....a leaner meaner operation
Guest Scalar
thing is... there very recent releases showed them returning to there underground roots, in fact since cass left its been great from flying rhinos, and not really very commercial at all! i for one will miss those thumpy kicks which no other label seemed to do, i just hope that they come back in some form, as they were and pioneering of the scene and still had new things to say! More worryingly is the number of good artists who are out of contract, and who knows who long before we get any new releases if at all? So if the problem is largely MP3 related, congratulations to all the dick heads out there who have suceeded in screwing themselves up! I for one really don't appreciate one of my favourite record companies going smash because people have no respect/cash/morals. Oh well, I hope they come back soon in some form or other.
